Welcome to another Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
There are two identical slates on FD and DK — a eight-game Main Slate that starts at 1:35 PM EST and a five-gamer (Late) that begins at 4:07 PM
We should (once again) begin our day with Adam’s Starting Rotation article to help decide on arms and then move onto the different possibilities to mix and match them with our stacks for GPPs.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – Main Slate
We’ve got some solid pitching options available to us in the main slate, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few stacks we can focus our builds around to help take down some GPPs.
Game Stack: Colorado Rockies at Washington Nationals
One of the first opportunities to get a little different is to stack up the COL-WAS game, which has a projected total of 9 runs and follows some high-scoring contests between these teams in the past few days. Both Josiah Gray (5.44 ERA, 5.92 FIP, 4.46 xFIP) and Kyle Freeland (4.60 ERA, 3.83 FIP, 4.03 xFIP) have both struggled a bit this season, and this game has one of the better hitting environments of the main slate, with weather in the 80s and winds blowing out gently to right field.
In addition, Freeland has had a particularly rough times against both lefties (.382 wOBA) and righties (.347 wOBA) in 2022, though his career splits are a little more normal and he’s been blown up in Coors a few times this season. Still, the 3-4-5 hitters on both teams feature a lot of firepower and we could really get something good started with Charlie Blackmon, C.J. Cron and Ryan McMahon for Colorado and come right back with Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz and the switch-hitting Josh Bell for Washington. Value plays for the Rockies include Yonathan Daza, Randal Grichuk and Elias Diaz, while leadoff man Cesar Hernandez and dirt-cheap options Lane Thomas, Maikel Franco and Victor Robles are in play for the Nats.
Boston Red Sox vs. Bruce Zimmermann
Over the past seven days, the Red Sox team is sporting a 172 wRC+ and .411 wOBA, as .397 of them are getting on base. Some of the hotter hitters include J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, Trevor Story and even Christian Vazquez, who we can lock into our catcher slot for today’s game at an affordable $3,300 on DK.
Zimmermann, on the other hand, has not been pitching well. He’s yielded 9 ER and 5 HR overall in his past 11.1 IP at the hands of the New York Yankees, and Boston brings similar upside into this matchup with the heart of its order and several back-end plays. Along with the guys I mentioned before, I’ll be looking to get exposure to Xander Bogaerts, Kike Hernandez, Bobby Dalbec and Alex Verdugo, who has started to see the ball better lately.
The only thing preventing us from going all-in on the Red Sox here today is salary — as the big bats are al in the $5,400-$6,100 range and we’ll need to find some savings to make it work.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Elvin Rodriguez
One of the first matchups to meet my eye was the Guardians vs. Rodriguez today, but the wind blowing in at Comerica makes me think they’re more of a large-field GPP play.
Jose Ramirez has resumed mashing baseballs at an alarming rate, but we may need to focus a little bit more on value today for the rest of our stack, including lefty Josh Naylor and his .421 wOBA vs. LHP in 2022. From there, e can mix in some smattering of Owen Miller, Steven Kwan, Amed Rosario, Luke Maile (another cheap catcher in a great matchup) and leadoff man Myles Straw.
My favorite four are probably Ramirez, Naylor, Kwan and one of either Miller or Maile (depending on site), but you can mix in some different combos if you’re multi-entering.
Atlanta Braves vs. Elieser Hernandez
The Braves are familiar with Hernandez and his ERA/FIP combo of 5.45/6.10 doesn’t inspire much confidence in him shutting them down today. The best options for Atlanta given the matchup include Ronald Acuna, Matt Olson, Travis d’Arnaud and Dansby Swanson, though we’ll have to keep an eye on who’s in the lineup, because Austin Riley, Marcell Ozuna and William Contreras have all had some success against Hernandez in small samples.
Ozzie Albies might be left on the fantasy bench today based on his price point and weaker numbers vs. RHP, but DK minimum priced Michael Harris could be an interesting play if he gets into the lineup today.
MLB DFS Main Slate Summary
Plenty of explosive stacking options on the main slate today, and pitching options in the mid-range that could allow us to put up a big score.
I do have some abiding interest in the Twins Lefties (Luis Arraez, Max Kepler, S/H Jorge Polanco) and Gary Sanchez today vs. Zack Greinke, so I’ll pop in a few mini-stacks and some one-offs with Kepler and Arraez.
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – Late Slate
For the late slate, I’m looking at the Dodgers offense and the TEX-OAK game, which features two somewhat questionable SPs who can be hit-or-miss, and a favorable hitting environment in a park where that’s pretty rare.
Dodgers bats include the red-hot Mookie Betts (watch for a scratch if he’s getting a day off), Freddie Freeman, Edwin Rios, Trea Turner, and Cody Bellinger.
In TEX-OAK, I’m getting shares of Chad Pinder, Jed Lowrie, Seth Brown and Tony Kemp on the Athletics as well as Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Kole Calhoun and Adolis Garcia for Texas.
Good luck again today, and let’s see those green screens in Discord!
