Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
The slates today on DraftKings and FanDuel are different, with one big eight-game slate starting at 4:07 PM EST on FD that includes the 7 PM games and on DK into an early (4:05) five-game slate (no more COL-WAS since that’s part of a doubleheader) that starts with TEX-OAK and a main slate (7:05 – six games) that includes the 10 PM games.
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – DK Early (in FD Main Slate)
The Giants stand out as one of the best values on the early DK slate — and should be viable in the FD main slate as well, especially if folks flock to the Yankees and Dodgers as expected.
Most stacks should start with Joc Pederson, Tommy La Stella, Mike Yastrzemski and Brandon Crawford, lefty bats that absolutely destroy RHPs and should have no trouble barreling up Vladimir Gutierrez and his atrocious splits vs. LHBs (.510 wOBA in 2022). Gutierrez isn’t much better vs. RHB, and carries a 8.70/7.27 ERA/FIP combo in seven starts this season (0-6).
In rounding out our five-man Giants stacks on DK, we can look to Wilmer Flores or Luis Gonzalez.
My Yankees stacks will start with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres, and we can make use of Matt Carpenter at his current price in this new setting. My next favorite Yankees to use are dirt-cheap Miguel Andujar and Joey Gallo, and Marwin Gonzalez could be a solid value as well with great career numbers against Corey Kluber.
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – Main Slate
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Merrill Kelly
The Dodgers are sporting a .390 team wOBA and 154 wRC+ with 14 HR over the past seven days, and they get to face Merrill Kelly, a very hittable right-hander who’s they’ve lit up on several occasions in the past. Kelly hs done an acceptable job limiting damage overall this season, (3.49/3.12 ERA/FIP), but he’s seen a regression in May with an ERA of 6.53 and a .372 wOBA.
Hitters like Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner and Will Smith are simply to much for him, and I’ll be mixing in shares of Cody Bellinger, Edwin Rios and Chris Taylor in some of my builds as well, especially consider Kelly’s propensity for walks and fly balls.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Yusei Kukuchi
The Angels could be a nice sneaky stack against Kikuchi tonight, and the big bats of Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, Anthony Rendon and Shohei Ohtani (DTD)are all in play. IF you need some value plays, look no further than Matt Duffy, the switch-hitting Luis Rengifo, Kurt Suzuki and Juan Lagares.
Kikuchi has a decent K rate, but he simply walks too many batters and the HR/FB rate is going to climb up toward the 15% mark before you know it. It’ll be a fine night for hitting in Anaheim and you’ll want some shares of the Angels in your GPP builds.
UPDATE: With Rendon hitting the IL, we can scratch him off our list of Halos to target.
San Diego Padres vs. JT Brubaker
The Padres bats are starting to wake up again, and a matchup with Brubaker could be just what’s needed for them to light up the scoreboard with a crooked number.
While Manny Machado and his $5,100 DK salary can be the lynchpin of your stacks, you won’t have to p[ay top dollar for Luke Voit, Wil Myers and Eric Hosmer, who are all very cheap and have enormous upside in this lineup. Ha-seong Kim and Jake Cronenworth are also viable tonight, and I can see myself using a lot of the 1-5 hitters for San Diego.
Brubaker allows a .317 wOBA to LHBs and has had the benefit of facing some weaker opponents since he last drew the Padres on April 30. He was lucky to limit them to 3 ER in 5.0 IP then, so give Machado and company a look today on a slate where you’ll need some leverage.
MLB DFS Main Slate Summary
The Padres could be my favorite GPP play of the main slate, and It’s a weird day with a few double-headers confusing the starting times and some weather making an impact in a couple spots. The NYM-PHI game, however, is another possible source of offense and the rain there is likely to be most gone before first pitch.
