Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
The main slate today on FanDuel has 11 games and starts at 1:35 PM EST, including the Coors Field game. The DraftKings slate also starts at 1:35 PM, but has only nine games and eliminates both ATL-COL and SEA-TEX.
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – Main Slate
Houston Astros vs. Jonathan Heasley
All the projections I’ve looked at from both sides of this matchup say that Heasley should get abused by the Astros lineup. While they didn’t annihilate Kris Bubic yesterday the way I thought, Houston did manage to put up 6 runs in the shutout that was marred by significant delay that may have thrown off some of the players.
Today, we have a pitcher with a 6.77 FIP who’s projected to walk about as many Astros as he’ll strike out, and he’s a RHP — which they Houston prefers to the tune of a 114/98 R/L wRC+ split. We’re targeting all the usual suspects, including Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Michael Brantley and even Jeremy Pena. I’d advocate for a full stack on both sites, which involves some mixing and matching with value plays and a lower-price SP2 on DK.
UPDATE: Mauricio Dubon makes for an interesting value play hitting out of the 2 slot for the Astros.
Luckily, Adam gives us some clear options in the pitching value department, and both of our other stacking options feature some lower-priced hitters that could fit the bill.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Devin Smeltzer
I’m going right back to the well with the Blue Jays here, because Smeltzer, despite his miniscule ERA and 2-0 record is striking out just 4.5 batters per 9 IP and has logged just 24.0 very lucky inning so far this season. The xFIP is 4.49 and he’s yet to surrender a homer, which changes today in the Rogers Centre.
The best exposure we can get on Toronto is the big three of Vladimir Guerrero, Bo Bichette and George Springer, but there are plenty of other options to consider, including Lourdes Gurriel, who added three hits as the surging Jays set season highs in runs (13) and hits (16). I have an affinity for Santiago Espinal, who does most of his heavy raking against LHP. Alejandro Kirk and Teoscar Hernandez are also in play, as they have some of the best numbers against the changeup, a pitch that Smeltzer relies heavily on. It’s his best pitch and his second-most thrown after the fastball.
The Jays don’t have a projected team total as high as the Astros or the next team we’re covering, but they make for fine GPP stack or a place to glean some value fill-ins to round out another build.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Patrick Corbin
Another Corbin start, another day where the WinDaily community loads up against him. Corbin has now been hit very heavily in three of his last four starts, the outlier being a 6.1 IP performance against Colorado here he still gave up 3 ER. He’s not a great pitcher and he’s not even good against lefties, who have tuned him up for a .391 wOBA this season.
We’re focusing our builds around Brandon Drury, Joey Votto, Kyle Farmer and the long-overdue for a dong Tyler Stephenson, who hasn;t homered since May 12 but had two hits in yesterday’s 10-8 loss to Washington. Tommy Pham is pretty expensive ($5,400 on DK), but we can include him in the “best bats” group if we can afford him.
The Reds also feature some excellent value options today in leadoff hitter Nick Senzel and Matt Reynolds — a journeyman IF who’s had lots of success this season against LHP.
MLB DFS Main Slate Summary
FanDuel offers the opportunity to cast out the demons from the last two days of no offense in Coors Field, but there are plenty of other options if you’re into fading that game.
If not, you can look to some combination of four hitters from Matt Olson, Ronald Acuna, Austin Riley, Dansby Swanson and Marcell Ozuna — who I actually like in that order in terms of value and output for today’s game. On the Colorado side, I have the most interest in C.J. Cron, Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon and Randal Grichuk. While these Rockies hitters have had that much success against Charlie Morton, he’s a pitcher who relies so much on his curveball, which just doesn’t have the same snap as it does outside Coors Field.
MLB DFS Late Slate Summary
With only three games slated for the 3:10 PM EST slate on DK, we can ignore that in cash and focus on GPP, where I’m interested in the Coors hitters game stacking options outlined above and a couple Dodgers bats mixed in. LAD options include Cody Bellinger, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Trea Turner, but we could see some folks get days off so stay tuned for value plays like Zack McKinstry and Eddy Alvarez.
I’m not Good luck today, and remember to show us your green screens in Discord!
