Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
There are eight games on DK’s 1:05 PM EST early slate today, so I’m diving into that, as well as their six-game “featured” slate that begins at 7:15 PM EST. On FD, there’s like four slates but they fit within the framework of those games.
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 1:05 Slate
New York Yankees vs. Cristian Javier
While we know the Yankees can go off at any time, I don’t think the masses will flock to them today against Javier, who sports some solid ERA/FIP metrics in the 3-4 range. But the Astros RHP does get into some trouble by walking batters, which could be a problem against a patient Yankees lineup he hasn’t face much yet in his career. He’s given seven free passes over his last 9 IP without the home run ball rearing its ugly head, and the weather in the Bronx favors the bats against someone who is decidedly a fly ball pitcher who’s gotten a little lucky with a 5.2% HR/FB rate this season.
The usual suspects are in play, including Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, though we’ll have to make use of some bargain pitching options to fit these guys. I still think it’ll be worth it, even at the large salaries, because if they go off like they should, nearly nobody will have them. Value options include Aaron Hicks, Jose Trevino and Joey Gallo.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Adrian Sampson
We’ve been burned by the Cards a few times in what seem like good spots, but they shouldn’t have to much difficulty exploiting the low K rate and mediocre stuff of Sampson, who was recently recalled from Triple-A to start against St. Louis today.
The Cards bats I’m targeting include Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Brendan Donovan, Harrison Bader, Nolan Gorman and Tommy Edman, though I’m perfectly fine using just the value options from this squad to fill in what we didn’t with the expensive Yankees (especially at 1B with Goldschmidt at $6K even though he’s 0-for-7 career vs. Sampson).
Kansas City Royals vs. Jared Koenig
The Royals have cooled off at the plate over the past week, but we could see big games from their hitters tonight against Koenig, who has walked ore batters than he’s fanned this season and has infamously terrible metric data (6.59/6.56 ERA/FIP combo and a 6.70 xFIP). We can utilize some combination of Andrew Benintendi, Bobby Witt, MJ Melendez, Whit Merrifield, Carlos Santana and Hunter Dozier, and while Sal Perez will be sidelined about eight weeks following UCL thumb surgery, I’m a believer in Cam Gallagher as a value option at catcher.
