Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
There are nine games on DK’s 4:05 PM EST early slate today, so I’m diving into that, as well as their five-game “featured” slate that begins at 7:15 PM EST. On FD, the same two slates are considered the “main” and late night” slates.
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 4:05 Slate
San Francisco Giants vs. Jose Quintana
While Quintana can occasionally flummox hitters, he just doesn’t miss too many bats these days and has given up 4 ER in his last two outings, the most recent against a Braves team that hit there HR off him. That could be a problem today with a stiff wind blowing out in Pittsburgh.
We can look to all the usual suspects that are normally in play against LHP are there for the Giants, including Austin Slater, Darin Ruf, Wilmer Flores and Evan Longoria. That list also includes lefty bat Brandon Crawford and catcher Curt Casali, who’s having an excellent offensive season for the Giants.
As a whole, the Giants don’t fare all that well against LHP, but we can pick our spots with them and today is a day that conditions and matchup dictate we take advantage of the aforementioned players and their increased chances at success in MLB DFS.
Texas Rangers vs. Rony Garcia
The Rangers have really been heating up at the plate and have pop throughout their lineup, and Garcia has an ERA over 5 and a FIP of 4.17. The 24-year-old has some potential but primarily owns just a simple fastball-slider-change repertoire.
The winds in Detroit are blowing out to center today and the top-middle of the Rangers order looks like the place top stack. I’ll have exposure to Marcus Semien (coming off a two-hit night) Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia, Nate Lowe and former Yankees prospect Ezequiel Duran, who’s been hitting well since joining the club. Kole Calhoun and Jonah Heim are also in play.
We should never overload our entries with stacks of dynamic teams like the Rangers, but I’m fine getting exposure to them in 1/3 to 1/2 of your multi-entry GPP lineups.
Cincinnati Reds vs. George Costanza Jason Alexander
Sorry, but I can’t resist a Seinfeld joke when the opportunity presents itself. The Assistant to the Traveling Secretary’s pitching numbers over three MLB starts (and 16.2 IP) show a solid ERA (2.16) that belies a 3.86/5.25 FIP/xFIP combo and K% of only 8.1%.
The Reds have woken up offensively over the past few weeks and while they don’t have Tyler Stephenson, Joey Votto could be back in the lineup tonight (he was scratched on Friday without explanation so we’ll have to stay tuned on this). The Reds I’m most interested in include Votto, Brandon Drury, Jonathan India and Tommy Pham. Albert Almora Jr. is in play as well.
In addition, it’s great hitting weather in Cincinnati, with the winds blowing out to right field at around 10-15 MPH.
Also consider:
Houston Astros vs. Johnny Cueto: Anyone wearing the Astros logo and starting is worth a look, so you can mix and match Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve with the remaining options throughout this circular lineup.
Contrarian Stack: Kansas City Royals vs. LHP Cole Irvin: MJ Melendez, Sal Perez, Andrew Benintendi, Bobby Witt, Whit Merrifield and Hunter Dozier
New York Mets vs. Braxton Garrett: Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, Eduardo Escobar and Pete Alonso are all solid options, and I like having shares of Mark Canha and his excellent plate approach — especially in full stacks.
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 7:15 Slate
Boston Red Sox vs. Dakota Hudson
Rafael Devers, Jarren Duran, J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts are my top four, but we can always find value in this Boston lineup.
Additional options:
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cal Quantrill
Full Game Stack: San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
Good luck today, and remember to show us your green screens in Discord!
