Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
The main slate today on both FanDuel and DraftKings has 10 games and starts at 1:35 PM EST. The 4:05 PM EST late slate has three games and is also identical on both DK and FD. Weather in NY looks like the biggest issue right now, but keep in mind that could help lower bat ownership in a CHC-NYY game that still likely plays — even if it delays and makes the pitchers to risky for use.
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – Main Slate
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Kyle Nelson/Bullpen
Nelson has good numbers in his 19 relief appearances but should only serve as the opener, so I’m fine leading off with the Phillies here as a solid Sunday stacking option. The right-handed bats on this team are all relatively cheap compared to the lefties, but even they still fare pretty well vs. LHP.
My favorite options include Rhys Hoskins, JT Realmuto, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott, who continues to hit for power and is still a very affordable $2,700 on DK. I’m still waiting for an Alec Bohm breakout, and today might be the day I give him another shot in my 3B slot in my builds that punt the catcher position. Nick Castellanos is also decent value/upside for his price on both sites.
Atlanta Braves vs. Jose Quintana
Not having them written up in the main section is one of my great regrets from yesterday’s slate, but at least I discussed them as an option. Unfortunately, that also meant I was not featuring them in my own builds, and I’m not making that same mistake again today.
Quintana has been a fine enough pitcher this season (1-3, 3.19/3.03 ERA/FIP) but the Braves in particular are a lineup that has fared well against him in recent years. They also seem to do plenty well against LHP that fit his profile. Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Dansby Swanson and Marcell Ozuna (7-14, HR in his career against Quintana) are the top five plays in this matchup, although the first four of those guys range from $5K to $6K in price on DK. Ozuna costs just $4,300 on DK ($2,900 on FD) and and will be in most of my Braves builds. Catcher (or C/UTIL on FD) William Contreras gets the start over Travis d’Arnaud and is also in play.
Kansas City Royals vs. Dean Kremer (with KCR-BAL game stack options)
A few weeks ago I wouldn’t have used these guys too much, but lately I’ve been finding myself taking advantage of some tasty matchups. We can still benefit from a hot stretch for a few of these hitters — a dynamic blend of veterans and youngsters who can all rake.
Veteran catcher Sal Perez started off the season slowly but has really come alive in June: 12-for-37 (.324) with eight extra-base hits and 13 RBI — including seven hits in his last four games. If you can find room for him and MJ Melendez, who’s C/OF eligible, that’s a great start to a stack that could also include Bobby Witt, Jr., Andrew Benintendi and Michael A. Taylor.
They remain at pretty low ownership and could be part of a game stack as the Orioles are projected for over 4.5 runs and have some solid stacking options of their own in Cedric Mullins, Trey Mancini and Anthony Santander facing Brad Keller. There’s also a case to be made for Austin Hays (.380 wOBA vs. RHP this season) as well as value option Jorge Mateo in the 9 slot.
MLB DFS Main Slate Summary
It’s a pretty wide open slate with plenty of possibilities, so I’m also willing to give the Tampa Bay Rays another look today as they take on MIN (SP/Opener?) Cole Sands and his 8.49/6.91 ERA/FIP combo. I’m looking at the 1-5 hitters (Kevin Kiermaier, Manuel Margot, Randy Arozarena, Ji-Man Choi and Yandy Diaz, but don’t forget the scrappy (as well as entertaining and hilarious) Brett Phillips as a salary-saving option.
I also have a feeling that the Cardinals right-handed bats will be a decent GPP leverage play against Graham Ashcraft today in Busch Stadium. Ashcraft has been solid this season but his xFIP is 4.66 vs. RHB and away from the Great American Ballpark he’s sporting a .355 wOBA vs. RHB. I’m looking at stacking Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Tommy Edman, Harrison Bader. though it’s fine if you want to just use the traditional 1-5 hitters and incorporate Nolan Gorman and/or Tyler O’Neill. If Juan Yepez finds his way back into the lineup I’d give him another crack in like 1/10 GPPs, too.
Also consider one-offs and mini-stacks from:
Miwaukee Brewers vs. Paolo Espino/WAS Bullpen
New York Yankees vs. Keegan Thompson
Chicago White Sox vs. Jon Gray (GPP only)
TEX SS Corey Seager vs. Michael Kopech
WAS OF Juan Soto vs. George Costanza Jason Alexander
MIN OF Byron Buxton vs. Jeffrey Springs
MLB DFS Late Slate Summary
This three-game slate features a couple of interesting GPP stacks in the San Diego Padres (primarily their lefty bats and Manny Machado) and the Seattle Mariners (1-5 hitters) vs. BOS SP Kutter Crawford.
I’d steer clear of the Dodgers facing Carlos Rodon in San Francisco, but we can consider a few righty bats for BOS facing LHP Robbie Ray. If he walks a few guys he could run into a long ball from one of their 3-5 hitters in J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts and Trevor Story. Bobby Dalbec also offers some HR upside in that matchup at just $3K.
Good luck today, and remember to show us your green screens in Discord!
