Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
Following a messy two-game turbo that starts at 12:05 PM EST on DK, we’ve got nine early games making up the 4:05 PM slate and DK’s “featured” five-game slate that begins at 6:07 PM. FD calls that nine-game 4:05 slate it’s main slate, and that’s the one we’ll feature more prominently despite DK’s bizarre choice to indicate the later, smaller bunch as “featured.”
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 4:05 Slate
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Bryse Wilson
The Brewers dropped 19 runs (NINETEEN FREAKIN’ RUNS!) on the Pirates last night, and while it’d be silly to expect that kind of offensive output two days in a row, I’m not counting out them reaching double digits today against Wilson. The Pittsburgh RHP has a 8.29 EWRS and 5.26 FIP this season in six starts across nine total appearances, and his barrel rate is nearly 10%.
I’ll start off my Brewers stacks with the red-hot Rowdy Tellez, who has been hitting all kinds of pitches very hard for the last couple of weeks, including six HRs (and a 5.12 ISO and .732 SLG) over the past 14 days. After that, I’ll get some exposure to Christian Yelich, Willy Adames, Luis Urias, Kolten Wong and catcher Victor Caratini. — that being the likely order of my favorite plays. In addition, I’ll make room for Keston Hiura in around half of my Milwaukee stacks if he gets the start today.
There was a game or two where it looked as though Bubic had figured out a few things, but he resumed being the punching bag he had become accustomed to in his last start, so I have no problem going there again.
Atlanta Braves vs. Tyler Mahle
I know that folks like to play him once in a while, and I can see the appeal of Mahle in specific MLB DFS matchups, but I’m very interested in attacking him in what projects to be a rough time for him at home against the Braves. Tyler’s wOBA is almost 100 percent points higher at home (.346 vs. an impressive .248 on the road), and this is a dangerous bunch who will likely elevate that 8.0% HR/FB rate today.
The bats we want to focus on here are pretty expensive (Ronald Acuna, Austin Riley, Matt Olson and Travis d’Arnaud stand out as a solid four-man stack), but I’m also interested in exposure to the projected 8-9 hitters: 2B/3B eligible Orlando Arcia and OF Michael Harris are $3,200 and $3,100, respectively, and should produce solid numbers in wraparound stacks like 8-9-1-3-4 or 8-9-1-3-5.
Value Stack: Detroit Tigers vs. Kris Bubic
Aside from Javier Baez, who’s clocking in at a hilarious $6K on DK’s pricing algorithm, most of the Tigers we’d look to in this favorable matchup are under $3K. After Baez and Eric Haase ($3,800), we can pick and chose from the value bin among guys like the switch-hitting Robbie Grossman, the young and promising Riley Greene, minimum-priced Willi Castro, who has four hits in his last 12 ABs, and veteran bats like Miguel Cabrera and Jonathan Schoop.
There’s really nothing to fear from Kris Bubic, a lefty who we’ve attacked on multiple occasions this season (and who often yields around 4 ER in his 4-5 IP on the mound). Traditional L-L splits don’t mean all that much except continued pain for Bubic, who sports a .540 wOBA vs. LHB this season. Once we nail down some high-priced hitters in another stack, we can fill in the rest with hitters from Detroit and see what shakes out in our GPPs.
UPDATE: With Grossman out, I’ll make sure to include the leadoff man Greene in any DET stacks where he wasn’t there, or pivot to the Houston/Atlanta/KC OF that fits in that price range.
Also consider:
Contrarian Stack: Seattle Mariners (mix-n-match among 1-6) vs. Paul Blackburn — Julio Rodriguez, Jesse Winker, Cal Raleigh, Eugenio Suarez, Carlos Santana and Abraham Toro are my favorite plays, somewhere around that order.
One-offs and mini stacks: Andrew Benintendi-Bobby Witt- Vinny Pasquantino for the Royals vs. Detroit’s Beau Brieske in a possible game stack; Houston Astros 1-3 bats Jose Altuve-Jeremy Pena-Alex Bregman vs. Patrick Sandoval; and LAA 1B/OF Shohei Ohtani vs. Jose Urquidy
Slate Summary: There are some clean, no-weather games but I’ve done the best to give you options here that shouldn’t rely on too much weather info, and steered clear of the worst spots (STL-PHI and MIA-WAS stick out as dangerous) that might result in delays or possible PPD. Note: Stay tuned to the Discord chart and make sure you keep an eye on starting lineups, because I won’t be able to do updates to the copy after 1 p.m. or so.
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 6:07 Slate
New York Yankees vs. Aaron Civale
Boston Red Sox vs. Alec Mills
Coors Field Game Stack: ARI-COL — especially with two gas cans (Dallas Keuchel and Austin Gomber) on the mound.
Contrarian mini-stack: Manny Machado-Luke Voit-Jorge Alfaro vs. LAD SP Tyler Anderson
Good luck today, and remember to show us your green screens in Discord!
