Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
Our main slates on both DK and FD start at 1:35 PM EST and they include seven and eight game, respectively. The MIN-TEX game is included in the FD slate. The only major weather spot to watch is in Atlanta.
We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on arms, for the early and main slates.
Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 1:35 PM EST
Atlanta Braves vs. Paolo Espino
We’ll need to keep an eye on the weather and what they do with their starting lineup on a Sunday, but the Braves have the highest projected total of the slate and will likely surpass yesterday’s offensive output against Espino. The Nationals’ 35-year-old RHP is carrying a 3.33 ERA about a full point lower than his FIP and xFIP — both sitting at 4.40.
I’m getting exposure to Ronald Acuna, Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Dansby Swanson, Marcell Ozuna Michael Harris and William Contreras. Value options include Eddie Rosario and Orlando Arcia.
Riley is probably my favorite play since he’s such a beast against the curveball and slider –the two pitches that Espino throws best and make up a cumulative total of around 50% of his pitches. Espino actually throws the fastball less than half the time, but when he does, he’ll have the most trouble with Olson, Swanson and Contreras.
Chicago White Sox vs. Drew Hutchison
The White Sox are coming off a productive game against the Tigers and are in another tasty spot facing Hutchison, whose xFIP/xERA are 5.38/5.27 considerably higher than the 4.30/4.33 ERA/FIP. He has mediocre stuff and the White Sox have a bunch of RHB than should light him up.
Let’s start with a core of Luis Robert, Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson, mixing in shares of Gavin Sheets, Andrew Vaughn, Josh Harrison Eloy Jimenez (DTD), Yoan Moncada and possibly even DK-minimum Reese McGuire. Long story short — I’ll be running multiple variations of full five-man CHW stacks in some of the $1 entry GPPs.
Value/Game Stack: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Nick Nelson/Cristopher Sanchez
This is a bullpen game for the Phillies, so it may be tough to predict where most of the damage will come from with respect to splits and salary today for St. Louis. But I firmly believe there’s enough production coming that we can mix and match a few different value bats with the top salary guys (Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado are both in play under $5K). Brendan Donovan, Nolan Gorman, Dylan Carlson, Juan Yepez and Albert Pujols are all excellent options today, and we can even make the case for some shares of Tommy Edman even if he’s way down toward the bottom of the lineup.
I’m tempted to roll out a few game stacks of this matchup as well, but the Phillies aren’t in as great of a spot facing Andre Pallante, who does a good job against LHB like Kyle Schwarber and Darick Hall with his cutter — a pitch that also flummoxes Rhys Hoskins. I’d be more comfortable using under-the-radar guys like Odubel Herrera and Nick Castellanos, who make for excellent GPP options in a possible game stack. I will have a few game stacks that make use of all these guys since Pallante may not go too deep into the game.
Contrarian Stack: Milwaukee Brewers RHB vs. Jose Quintana
Last week there was some confusion as to whether Quintana or Zach Thompson would start, and it ended up being the RHP, the preference in stacking the lefty-heavy Brewers. Today, they’re on my contrarian radar considering we can roll out some awesome RHB and excellent value bats in Willy Adames, Luis Urias. Mike Brosseau, Victor Caratini and Jonathan Davis.
Also consider:
Cleveland Guardians vs. Zack Greinke (Jose Ramirez, Steven Kwan, Nolan Jones, Amed Rosario and Franmil Reyes); Tampa Bay Rays vs. Nick Lodolo (Ji-Man Choi, Harold Ramirez, Yandy Diaz, Isaac Paredes and Randy Arozarena).
MLB DFS Main Slate Summary
Some lower projected totals than we’re used to seeing against so many iffy pitchers, but I think there’s plenty of leverage to be had in GPPs if we watch the developing news and stay engaged in Discord. Good luck today, and remember to show us your green screens in Discord!
