Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
The featured (main) slate consists of 11 games and starts at 7:05 PM EST, and the earlier contests we can mostly avoid since they’re just two-gamers. In lieu of Adam’s Starting Rotation article, I’ll also give you an idea of which pitchers I’m building around. The main weather situation we need to think about avoiding is SFG-MIN, so be careful if you’re considering players (pitchers, especially) from that game.
Now it’s time to get to the MLB DFS stacks and build that bankroll!
MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 7:05 PM (Main) Slate
San Diego Padres vs. Daniel Lynch
Given the Padres’ offensive output yesterday in their 13-5 victory over Kansas City, the number of value options available in their lineup and the projected game totals, we have to consider San Diego to be the chalk of this slate, along with both New York teams. It’s a stack I have every intention of getting behind, not only because it’s wise to pick on Daniel Lynch and the Padres have a couple of hot hitters who hammer LHPs — but because it’s also one of the hotter games and has the wind blowing out to left field.
My favorite bats include Manny Machado, Brandon Drury, Wil Myers and Kim Ha-seong, who homered and drove in five runs last night. I’m also interested in sprinkling in some Jake Cronenworth despite the lefty-lefty matchup and getting some exposure to Jurickson Profar.
New York Yankees vs. Adam Oller
The Yankees are gaining momentum again and Aaron Judge now has Giancarlo Stanton back to give him some protection. The Athletics walked Judge three times yesterday and when they did pitch to him, he hit his 49th homer of the season.
Rounding out the main MLB DFS options for the Yankees we have Andrew Benintendi, who’s been settling into the leadoff spot against RHP and carries a .358 wOBA vs. RHP, Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres and Oswaldo Cabrera. I like to use Jose Trevino when I can, but he got hit on the toe yesterday and I could see Aaron Boone giving him a well-deserved day off.
Cabrera scuffled through his first few AB for the Bombers, but has really come along as a confident, capable hitter. For just $2,100 on DK, he offers some positional flexibility (a real-life asset that will keep him competing for a permanent roster spot in the coming years) and plenty of upside.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Drew Smyly
We can derive a lot of confidence in the Brewers stack as a leverage play today given the bigger name teams on the slate in good spots, but I you’ll have a hard time finding a four-man stack with as much upside against a weak LHP than Hunter Renfroe, Willy Adames, Rowdy Tellez and Andrew McCutcheon.
All of those guys have homer potential, and I’ll even think about adding the projected nine hitter Tyrone Taylor (who homered yesterday) as a nice finisher for a full stack at the DK minimum $2,000. Taylor is a streaky player with double-dong potential and he let’s you do a lot at that low price.
I’m expecting four HRs or more out of this bunch today against Smyly, who doesn’t offer much to fear.
New York Mets vs. Kyle Freeland
There’s an awful lot of pop in the heart of the Mets order today, and it’s a way to get a little bit different if you stack up 4-7 (Pete Alonso, Darin Ruf, Jeff McNeil and Mark Canha) instead of reaching for the obvious guys at the top (Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte and Francisco Lindor). I’ll definitely be getting exposure to Marte and his 368 wOBA vs. LHP, and I won’t criticize you for plugging in Lindor or Nimmo — I just think there are better value options at SS and OF.
Freeland really struggles when he falls behind in counts, and guys like Alonso, Canha and Marte will give the Mets excelletn at-bats and more opportunities for success against the left-hander (who sports an xFIP above 4 even away from Coors). I could see a sneaky Mets stack helping to take down a big GPP today, especially if the Padres and Yankees lineups don’t hit their potential.
Also consider:
Houston Astros vs. Dean Kremer: The usual suspects make sense here, and with the Astros at home, we could be looking at a multi-HR game for somebody among Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker — my favorite plays for Houston.
Seattle Mariners vs. Zach Plesac: I don’t see a reason for not playing Julio Rodriguez, and there’s quite a bit of leverage potential in stacking him up with Mitch Haniger, Ty France, Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker.
Slate Summary: I’m looking mainly toward Yu Darvish at SP1 and Domingo German as my SP2, but could work in some shares of Brandon Woodruff, David Peterson and Jordan Montgomery in GPPs. Montgomery is the riskiest of those three options, but he’s been pitching like a man possessed since the Yankees dealt him to St. Louis.
