MLB DFS Aces & Stacks (July 24)

Welcome to Monday’s edition of Aces and Bases, where I’ll go through the top MLB DFS Aces and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Monday Funday and we have ourselves a nice little 8-game slate of MLB DFS.  This slate is more pitching-heavy than it is flush with stacking options.  While there’s no true “ace” on this slate, some of the pitchers are more than solid and are in a position to have strong nights thanks to the solid matchups that they are in tonight.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

MLB DFS Aces – Main

Yu Darvish vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

This may be the first time I’ve used Yu Darvish all season.  Darvish has had an ok season thus far.  His record of 7-6 and his ERA of 4.36 are probably not where he had hoped they would be, but he does have a respectable WHIP of 1.26.  He’s averaged around 17 DK points this season which is very respectable.  He’s coming into this on the heels of back-to-back vintage Darvish outings.

Darvish has scored 56 DK points between the 2 starts and gets a matchup tonight with a Pirates team that should enable him to get in a third straight really solid start.  The Pirates’ offense has been atrocious over the last week.  They’ve scored 21 runs and have a 32% K rate.  Look for Darvish to continue on the roll he is currently on.

Patrick Corbin vs. Colorado Rockies

Hear me out on this one.  Although Patrick Corbin has historically been a lister (list of pitchers we automatically stack against), he hasn’t been awful this season.  He also has a phenomenal matchup tonight vs. a Colorado Rockies team that couldn’t hit themselves out of a wet paper bag against lefties.  The projected lineup tonight for the Rockies has an awful 25% K rate vs. lefties this season and just a .154 ISO.  They’ve struggled all year against lefties and I highly doubt it changes tonight with Corbin on the hill.

Corbin also hasn’t really pitched that poorly.  Over the last month, his ERA is just 3.7, and has allowed just a 27% hard-hit rate.  Do I want to throw up recommending Corbin?  A little bit.  But this is the Rockies vs. a lefty and Corbin is just $7.3k.  I also rostered Zac Eflin vs. the Royals the other day and he was -7 DK points.  This is baseball and anything can happen, but things look good for Corbin to have a solid night.

I also like Kent Maeda vs. Seattle and Logan Allen vs. Kansas City tonight.

MLB DFS Stacks – Main

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Adam Wainwright

Father time has quickly come upon Adam Wainwright.  It’s that or Yadier Molina was an even better catcher than any of us ever could have imagined.  It’s been a few weeks since Adam Wainwright has pitched due to an IL sting, but in the 3 outings prior to his IL stint he was in the negative in each outing.  Over the course of those 3 starts, he gave up 20 ER.  Not ideal!  Wainwright will have his hands very full with a very good Arizona Diamondbacks team.

The Diamondbacks have been pretty solid over the last week, scoring 37 runs and striking out at just a 25% clip.  We’ll want to prioritize the lefties in this matchup.  They have absolutely slaughtered Wainwright this season, with a .327 ISO and a .493 wOBA.  Yes, that’s an almost .500 wOBA.

I’m starting off my Dbacks stack with the legend himself, Corbin Carroll.  The Diamondbacks rookie is putting together a pretty impressive rookie campaign.  There’s a very strong chance that Carroll joins the 30/30 club this season as he’s up to 21 homers and 29 stolen bases this season.  That would be an impressive feat for a seasoned veteran, let alone a rookie.

I’m also going to make sure I grab the 2 guys in front of him in the lineup, Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo.  Both guys have strong numbers vs. righties this season, with Perdomo having a .348 wOBA and Marte having a .375.  We don’t need to shy away from righties here so Christian Walker and Lourdes Gurriel will both be in play for me here.

San Diego Padres vs. Quinn Priester

He only has one Major League start under his belt, but boy was it forgettable.  Through 5 innings, Quinn Priester gave up 7 ER in his Major League Debut vs. the Guardians.  It was a disaster for him and with a matchup vs. a very good Padres lineup tonight, I can see a scenario where he has a very similar outing.

The Padres have been a huge disappointment this season, but their lineup has still been very strong and this is a matchup they should be able to exploit.  Both sides of the plate took full advantage of Priester in his debut so all hands will be on deck with this stack.

I’m starting off this stack with a potential trade piece for the Padres.  Juan Soto is set to be a free agent after next season and with him having more than a year until then, he could command a huge haul for the Padres.  It also helps that he’s smashing the ball right now.  Over the last week, Soto has 3 bombs in his 20 AB and has an OPS of 1.331.  He stands a strong chance to homer tonight.

After Soto, I’ll look to guys like Fernando Tatis, Manny Machado, and Xander Bogaerts.  That reads like an All-Star team.  All three guys hit the ball well over the last week and should continue with their solid ways.  Other lower-owned pieces to look at here will be Ha-Seong Kim, Jake Cronenworth, and Trent Grisham.

Other stacks to look at tonight will be Washington Nationals vs. Karl Kauffmann and Milwaukee Brewers vs. Graham Ashcroft.

MLB DFS Summary

For a small slate, this slate packs a lot of punch.  With how weird things have been lately, I plan on getting just as weird tonight with using Corbin as one of my 2 pitchers.  Let’s go!
