Thursday is here and ill be focusing on the evening slate for MLB DFS action. The slate kicks of at 7:15 ET and we have six games on tap. Let’s get to it!
MLB DFS Aces
Shohei Ohtani vs Seattle Mariners
The best baseball player on the planet is in a great spot today. He takes on a Mariners team that continues to struggle with strikeouts.
Ohtani tossed a CGSO with 8 punchouts against Detroit last time out. He is the easy top choice for me tonight on this slate. The Angels are listed as -150 favorites in this one. Expect Ohtani to continue putting the team on his back.
Christian Javier vs New York Yankees
The Yankees have been taking it easy with Aaron Judge since his return, so there is a non-zero chance he gets another day off here.
Regardless, Javier is the type of pitcher who can and should excel against this lineup. Javier is on an extra day of rest following his last solid outing against Tampa Bay (6 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 ER, 9 K).
After a rough stretch, he has now allowed 3 ER or less in three straight outings. This game is essentially a pick-em, but I’m on the Astros and Javier in this one.
Matthew Liberatore vs Minnesota Twins
Once again, the cheap pitchers are all terrifying, so I’m betting on talent. Liberatore didn’t even make it out of the first inning in his last start, so that means things can’t get worse, right?
This is his first MLB start in nearly a month, but with St. Louis being sellers at the deadline, he will get another shot.
Minnesota continues to lead MLB in K rate, so the upside is there. He is my choice for a cheap pitcher on this slate, but it will be tough to click his name without feeling sick to your stomach.
MLB DFS Stacks
Chicago Cubs vs Luke Weaver
Luke Weaver has been objectively terrible this season aside from a few starts. The Cubs just finished setting a record for runs scored in a two-game span the last two nights against Reds pitching.
Much like Ben Lively two days ago, Weaver may be left to his own devices tonight and have a longer leash. The Reds bullpen has been getting rocked and is thin.
Cody Bellinger, Dansby Swanson, Mike Tauchmann, and Ian Happ are my favorite targets here. The entire team is in play against a collection of arms who have seen better days.
The Cubs are the clear top stack tonight.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs Adrian Houser
Adrian Houser has actually been a competent pitcher of late, but i like Pittsburgh to be a cheap, sneaky stack here.
Bryan Reynolds is always the top dawg, Ke’Bryan Hayes is back from the IL, Andrew McCutcheon continues to be a tough out, and Jack Suwinski is always a threat to park one in the cheap seats.
Connor Joe could be a cheap hitter who may hit leadoff. I’ll take the Buccos here for some salary relief.
Los Angeles Angels vs Bryan Woo
Bryan Woo has had issues throwing strikes and issues fooling hitters of late. Over his last three starts (14.1 IP) he has just an 11/6 K/BB and has been tagged for 13 ER and four homers.
The revamped Angels lineup is no easy task, even with Mike Trout still on the shelf. Ohtani is obviously the top target, but you know the drill by now on pitching days.
CJ Cron, Luis Rengifo, Hunter Renfroe, Randall Grichuk are the top options. If Mickey Moniak is back, I like him as well, but Jordyn Adams is a fine cheap option if he is filling in at the bottom of the lineup. Let’s go Halos!
