MLB DFS Aces & Stacks (Aug. 26)

We have two slates on Saturday as usual, with a five-game slate early and a solid eight-game slate starting at 7:10 ET. It looks like a really fun slate with some top-tier pitching and some very bad pitching. Let’s find some ways to cash in as we kick off the weekend!

MLB DFS Aces

Kyle Bradish vs Colorado Rockies

I have a feeling that you may have been expecting a different name up top in this article. Well, pound for pound, dollar for dollar, Bradish is my favorite arm for the slate. You could make a compelling argument that Bradish has been the most consistent pitcher in all of MLB.

Over his last 15 starts, he has allowed more than 3 ER one time. He has allowed 2 ER or less in ELEVEN of those starts, including four scoreless outings. The Rockies were already one of the worst lineups in baseball outside of Coors, but they have really struggled of late.

Over the last 30 days, they own the highest K rate in baseball (28.1%), the lowest wRC+ (73) and have a walk rate of just 7.4%. Bradish has been shutting down elite offenses all season, and I wouldn’t fight you if you told me the Rockies offense was the worst in MLB.

When you factor in salary, Bradish is a lock for me Saturday night.

Freddy Peralta vs San Diego Padres

Peralta may be the antithesis of Bradish. There are times when he is one of the most unhittable arms in the game. Other times, he struggles with command and leaves you scratching your head. Well, this is an interesting spot for him. The Padres have been solid at the plate recently, with a K rate barely north of 20% and a walk rate approaching 10%.

Max Scherzer is facing one of the most K-happy teams on the planet, but even he hasn’t shown the upside that Peralta has. Over his last five starts, Freddy has struck out 13, 7, 13, 6, and 11 batters. He has also allowed one ER or less in five of his last seven starts.

I don’t love the matchup here, but I love Freddy and his upside. He is a nice pivot in tournaments off of what should be a chalky Max Scherzer against the Twins.

Chase Silseth vs New York Mets

The New York Mets are a trainwreck. They have had a few bright spots this season, but overall they have been a massive disappointment. The Angels can’t argue that their season has gone much better, but they can argue that they have found some talent for the future.

Silseth has been rocky at times, but has flashed elite upside recently. He got rocked to the tune of 5 ER in 3.2 innings last time out against the Rays, but before that he was on a tear.

In a four game span against the Yankees, Braves, Mariners, and Astros, he totaled 22.2 IP, allowed 15 H, 4 ER, and had a 31/5 K/BB. We all know the Yankees suck, but those other lineups are among the best in MLB.

Silseth is cheap and has upside against a Mets team that tends to disappear. They are a patient offense, and have a team BB rate near 10% over the last month. Silseth does have 5 BB over his last 8.2 IP, so command will be key here for him. If he throws strikes and commands his pitches, he could be the best point-per-dollar arm on the board.

MLB DFS Stacks

Oakland Athletics vs Touki Touissant

The days of Touki being considered an elite prospect are long gone, and the days of him being an MLB pitcher may be coming to a close as well. He has been awful over his last two starts, allowing 10 ER in 8 innings of work, with a 7/9 K/BB.

Command was always an issue for him, and this season he owns just a 54/41 split. Not good. Oakland has actually been a solid offense at times recently, and have some pieces I like. Regardless, I’m stacking most teams against Touki right now.

My guy Zack Gelof, the red-hot Nick Allen, Ryan Noda, Brent Rooker, and Tony Kemp are all on my radar here. These guys have been swinging hot bats, and there should be no shortage of ducks on the pond with Touki toeing the rubber. Give me the A’s!

Baltimore Orioles vs Chris Flexen

I hope that people are looking at game logs over the last two and think that Flexen has it all figured out. Well, I’m here to tell you that he is still terrible. Overall in 2023, he still owns a 7.18 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and just a 50/28 K/BB over 67.2 innings of work.

The Orioles’ offense is loaded, and has a massive ceiling here. Adley Rutschman, Ryan Mountcastle, Gunnar Henderson, and Anthony Santander are my top targets. Austin Hays and Cedric Mullins (if he is in the lineup) are in play as well. Pretty much my interest lies with any player who walks to the plate with a bat.

Cincinnati Reds vs Zach Davies

Another aging pitcher who is having a poor season is Davies. He has been on the IL since mid-July, but he is a welcome sight for opposing hitters. Much like Flexen, he has an ERA north of 7 and a WHIP of over 1.6. Over his last three starts, he allowed 16 ER, 4 HR, and had just a 13/7 K/BB.

The Reds finally hit the ball well last night, but it was too little, too late. Will Benson, Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, and Spencer Steer are my main targets here. The Reds have been striking out a lot, but Davies doesn’t miss a lot of bats. Something has to give.

MLB DFS Summary

Welcome to the weekend! Let’s rock with Bradish/Silseth/Peralta and mix in some bats in great spots. Love this slate!
