Welcome to Friday’s edition of Aces and Bases, where I’ll go through the top MLB DFS Aces and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.
It’s full-slate Friday and tonight we are blessed with a massive 14-game slate of MLB DFS. This slate brings us a little bit of everything. We have some really solid pitchers in great spots and we also have some stacks that are just in amazing spots. With few glaring spots for pitchers and stacks, we should see some spread-out ownership.
Let’s dig in and make some money!
MLB DFS Aces – Main
Max Scherzer vs. Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins offense can certainly put up runs with the best of them. On the other hand, though, they can also strike out with the best of them. Over the last week, the Twins have struck out 30% of the time. That is the sixth-worst mark in all of baseball over the last week. Things won’t get any easier for them tonight as they’ll have to face off against ex-Mets great Max Scherzer.
Scherzer has had somewhat of an up-and-down season. So much so that the Mets shipped him off to Texas. Over the last month, Scherzer has been really good with the Rangers. He owns a 2.64 ERA, but most importantly a nearly 34% K rate. I’ll take my chances with him as strikeouts reign supreme and Scherzer should get plenty tonight!
Eury Perez vs. Washington Nationals
The Nationals can be a stingy offense. They don’t strike out much, but they also aren’t very good. The young right-hander for Miami should be able to dominate this lineup for the most part. Since rejoining the Marlins, he’s been really good. Over his four starts in August, twice he’s been over 25 DK points. The only poor showing that he had was against the Yankees and that could have been fluky as the Yankees just aren’t very good. He has back-to-back starts with 32 and 25 DK points.
The 25-pointer was against this same Nationals lineup a week ago. Normally starting twice at the same time can raise some concerns, but I have next to none tonight as Perez is really good. He’s just $8.8k on DK but should pitch like a pitcher in the $10k range.
Other pitchers that I like tonight will be Logan Gilbert vs. the New York Mets, Mitch Keller vs. St. Louis, and Michael Wacha Wacha Wacha against the Giants.
MLB DFS Stacks – Main
Boston Red Sox vs. Jordan Lyles
The home run giving-up machine named Jordan Lyles is back folks. Over Lyles’ 29 innings of work, he’s given up 11 homers. That’s pretty darn close to giving up one every other inning. That’s bad, really really bad. If ever there was a pitcher that we like to chase home runs against, this is it. Lyles is someone who has struggled throughout his career with giving up the long ball.
This year has been no different. He’s been awful in every sense of the word and I’m going to keep stacking against him with plenty of success. Over the last month, his ERA is at 7.89. That’s horrendous. Hitters have a nearly 83% contact rate vs. him. With Lyles, I’m not going to be overly concerned with splits. Both sides of the plate have torn him up.
I’m mostly interested in three guys in this lineup tonight. All of Alex Verdugo, Triston Casas, and Adam Duvall are crushing the ball right now. Each of them has been hitting the cover of the ball, but it’s Adam Duvall who has been the best of the bunch. Over his last 26 AB, Duvall has 11 hits and four homers. He has a team-lead OPS Of 1.521 also over that stretch which is just an insane number.
After those three, I also have mild interest in guys like Justin Turner, Rafael Devers, and Masataka Yoshida. This is a team that in theory, should put up a huge number today. Lyles can get lucky every now and then and not get blasted, but tonight is not going to be one of those times. Fire away with the Red Sox!
Detroit Tigers vs. Touki Toussaint
Since we went with a more expensive stack to start in the Boston Red Sox, we’ll need a cheaper one to counteract the cost. Look no further than the Detroit Tigers. Are the Tigers a good team? No, not even close right now. But they have some really solid young talent and the future is getting brighter for them. They also get a great matchup vs. a pitcher that hasn’t been good in a long time, if ever.
Toussaint has been bad over the last month. His ERA is massive at almost seven and his xFIP is up there too at 5.38. Toussaint has also been giving up a lot of fly balls and hard hits. Just a great combo if you’re looking to stack against a pitcher. Splits-wise, Toussaint is pretty neutral.
I’m going to be looking at the kids in this matchup. I really like the group of Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Spencer Torkelson, and Parker Meadows. Each of these kids has shown some pop at times and each of them possesses enough power to be able to take Toussaint deep tonight.
They are far from safe, but they are in an excellent spot to produce here. After those four, I don’t have too much interest in the Tigers. I’m going to leave my interest in just those four tonight. But those four have some serious upside vs. a bad pitcher.
Other stacks I like tonight will be the Rangers vs. Joe Ryan and Toronto against Chris Flexen. I think the Blue Jays can break the streak of game 1’s in Colorado.
