In this article I will break down each position with my top stud, middle tier, and value plays for this NBA DFS slate. I will be referring to DraftKings on pricing. Most picks are for GPP/Tournaments, some would also be viable for cash games.
We have an 8 game NBA DFS slate on tap coming out of the weekend. Every time I say that we shouldn’t have any huge injury news, we end up having huge injury news so I will be done saying that! Scrolling through the players on DraftKings there is a ton of players out or questionable, Paul George and Elfrid Payton are two key names to watch for. Point Guard
Luka Doncic – Stud – ($10,500)
Anytime Luka is under 11k odds are he will make at least one lineup of mine no matter the matchup. Tonight, though he draws an excellent matchup at that. Minnesota in the 5 games with their new team ranks 3rd worst in the NBA in defensive efficiency and is also the 3rd fastest team in the league over that time frame. Let’s be honest the Wolves don’t have anyone to play defense, Luka should be able to do what he wants here if this game stays close as the Wolves will be on the second leg of a back to back.
Kendrick Nunn – Mid-tier – ($5,600)
Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro are already ruled out for the Heat, with them being out Nunn sees a usage percentage of 27%. He also gets a glorious matchup here against Cleveland who has given up the most fantasy points to opposing point guards and shooting guards this NBA season. Cleveland also ranks 2nd worst in team defensive efficiency this season. Nunn had this same matchup last game he played and crushed 46 fantasy points.
Shake Milton – Value – ($3,600)
Josh Richardson, Alec Burks, Furkan Korkmaz and Al Horford are great plays against Atlanta, with Richardson and Horford likely being the highest owned. Embiid was first on my list and I don’t want to pick all Philadelphia players for this article. With Simmons and Harris off the floor, Milton checks in at 3rd on the team in usage at 23.3%. I will take that all day for a player under 4k. The matchup against Atlanta is enticing to go along with that as they are 3rd worst in the NBA in defensive efficiency along with the 6th fastest team. Milton may be an under the radar Philly player that I go to.
Shooting Guard
Bradley Beal – Stud – ($9,400)
My spend ups for the day are going to be Luka and Embiid so I don’t think I will get Beal. I do like his matchup with Milwaukee though, you do have to fear a blowout as Washington is on the second leg of a back to back, but if this game is close odds are its due to Bradley Beal. The Bucks are the fastest team in the NBA this season and Beal did put up 60 fantasy points against them last time they squared off. Beal has a huge workload with both his minutes and shot attempts. He can have a great night against the fastest team in the NBA.
RJ Barrett – Mid-tier – ($5,200)
A tournament plays only here, with injury news you will have to keep an eye on throughout the day. Elfrid Payton, Frank Ntilikina, and Wayne Ellington are all questionable for tonight’s game. With them off the floor, Barrett sees the second-highest usage on the team at 24.2%. It’s a friendly matchup as well against the Rockets who rank 2nd fastest in the NBA this season in pace and have given up the 2nd most fantasy points to shooting guards throughout the season.
Delon Wright – Value – ($4,300)
With Jalen Brunson ruled out, Delon Wright should get some extra run against a Wolves team that ranks 3rd worst in defensive efficiency in the NBA over the last five games. Wright should see the majority of the backup point guard minutes with Brunson out as well. Dallas is favored by 13 in this game, but Wright should, for the most part, be blowout proof as the only other point guard behind him is Barea who would not see the floor in a blowout. Almost anyone playing the Timberwolves right now has a chance for a huge night.
Small Forward
Kawhi Leonard – Stud – ($9,700)
If Paul George plays this price is too high for me to play Kawhi, but I would switch from Kawhi to Paul George if George is able to go. George practiced in full both Thursday and Friday before being ruled out Saturday so if he is active he may have a minute’s restriction, but I don’t think it would be strict. George is shooting 13% better at home from deep this season as well. Memphis is the 5th fastest team in the NBA and has given up the 5th most fantasy points to small forwards this season.
Jae Crowder – Mid-tier – ($5,100)
This was a close decision as Duncan Robinson was a close second for this spot. I don’t like Robinson as much on the road at his three-point percentage drops 13% when he is away from home. Crowder is looking at a great matchup with Cleveland who has given up the 4th most fantasy points to small forwards throughout the NBA season. The Heat will be without Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro for this game, with those two out Crowder is averaging 48.5 fantasy points per 36 minutes.
Eric Gordon – Value – ($3,700)
Gordon could be a pivot off Korkmaz who will have at least some increased ownership on this NBA slate due to the Philly injuries. Returning from injury last game Gordon logged 24 minutes and scored 24.25 fantasy points against Utah. This price is low for Gordon who isn’t afraid to jack up shots for the Rockets when he Is on the floor. He is 3rd on the team in usage over the past month with a usage of 25%. A player that is $3,700 and shoots double digits almost every time out ill take that.
Power Forward
Julius Randle – Stud – ($8,200)
This just seems like a Julius Randle type of game facing an up-tempo team that doesn’t have a true center. The Rockets are the 2nd fastest team in the NBA this season lots of rebounds to be had as they chuck up shots. For a guy that saw 46 and 38 minutes just before the All-star break he should be relatively low owned. This is a tournament play as the Rockets have been very solid against big men recently with their small-ball lineup but I’m looking for Randle to break that trend.
De’Andre Hunter – Mid-tier – ($4,500)
He missed the last game due to personal reasons and remains questionable at his time. If he can give it a go, he’s a solid play at his price against a banged-up Philadelphia team. When Hunter plays, he receives around 35 minutes and with Philadelphia’s injuries, this game should remain close. Over the past two weeks, Philly has given up the 7th most fantasy points to power forwards. Taurean Prince is another play at power forward as Orlando has given up the most points to power forwards over the last month of the NBA season.
Kelly Olynyk – Value – ($3,700)
Cleveland has a ton of big men, so they play bigger than most NBA teams. Olynyk should be forced to play a decent number of minutes in this spot in order to match up with Cleveland. He played 26 minutes scoring 30 fantasy points and the Cavs were without Kevin Love. Not the safest play but it’s one that for sure could pay off in tournaments.
Center
Joel Embiid – Stud – ($9,500)
Embiid has played Atlanta twice already this season, averaging 57 fantasy points in those two games. He could surpass that total in tonight’s game with Ben Simmons being ruled out and Tobias Harris is doubtful. Having both of those players off the floor Embiid sees a usage percentage of 36%. The matchup doesn’t get much better either as Atlanta is the 3rd worst defensive efficiency team in the NBA this season along with the 6th fastest, not to mention Atlanta is giving up the most fantasy point to opposing centers over the past month.
Kristaps Porzingis – Mid Tier – ($8,100)
This isn’t exactly a mid-tier play but its hard not to look at Porzingis facing off against the Timberwolves. Since the trades, the Wolves have given up the 2nd most fantasy points in the NBA to power forwards and the 3rd most fantasy points to centers. With Towns out the Wolves are also extremely undersized with Naz Ried and James Johnson as their center options. Porzingis is a great play for the same reasons as Luka the wolves don’t play defense and play very quick with the new squad.
Gorgui Dieng – Value – ($3,400)
Jaren Jackson Jr. went down in the middle of the Grizzlies last game against the Lakers. Dieng stepped in for Jackson playing 21 minutes while accumulating 32.5 DraftKings points. Josh Jackson is another option to see some extra minutes with the absence of Jaren Jackson. Memphis can run a big or smaller lineup with Jaren Jackson out, so Dieng and Josh Jackson are both great options as they won’t have to do much to hit value. Both should be blowout proof if that comes into play.
It’s going to be a high scoring 8 game NBA slate, as we have an injury-filled night with lots of high totals and fast-paced teams. Milwaukee at Washington, New York at Houston, and Minnesota at Dallas are three games to get exposure to or even game stack. Deandre Hunter is a guy that I would like to play if he is active but as of now, he remains questionable. Lots of guys are already ruled out with several being listed questionable so make sure to hop in the Discord chat rooms with myself and the rest of the WinDaily staff as we break down any injury news and further discuss our top plays. Thank you for reading my article. Good luck!
