July 22 MLB DFS Winners and Losers: Woj Bomb

Another day, another full 15-game slate; this time it was on Sunday July 21. We had something unusual as well: the MLB Woj Bomb. All July 22 MLB DFS Winners and Losers points and price tags are based off DraftKings.

July 22 MLB DFS Winners

Asher Wojciechowski ($5,500)

Wojciechowski dominated the Boston Red Sox’s lineup yesterday, going 7.1 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit, two walks and 10 strikeouts while picking up his first victory of the season. Pitching against the Red Sox lineup, which just put up 17 runs the previous game, he was able to shut them down. Look for him to continue this type of performance that made him a July 22 MLB DFS Winner in his next game.

Wojciechowski’s Outlook

What a Woj Bomb for the Orioles! Wojciechowski limited one of the best lineups in baseball to three baserunners in 7.1 innings. He also has good control, posting a 4.4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His next start is scheduled for Friday night in Los Angeles against the Angels. Look for him as a cheap starting pitcher option if you want to go expensive in another position.

Josh Phegley ($3,200)

Josh Phegley went 1-for-2 with a home run, 3 RBI, a run and a walk against the Minnesota Twins. He had a two-run home run off Michael Pineda and a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning was the extent of his day at the plate. Even though Phegley was solid at the dish, do not expect him to have a repeat performance in July 22 MLB DFS.

Phegley’s Outlook

Phegley stepped up in yesterday’s game but has not been consistent at the plate. In his past 30 games played, Phegley is batting just .196 with three home runs and 14 RBI. It is difficult to predict offensive production from Oakland’s catchers. Oakland continues their road trip with a visit to Houston to face the Astros. Fade Phegley in that matchup.

July 22 MLB DFS Losers

Michael Pineda ($8,700)

Michael Pineda struggled against the Oakland Athletics. He went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits with five walks and eight strikeouts. His ERA rose slightly to 4.41 after the game. He has the 16th lowest WHIP in the AL. Look for him to shake off his control issues and have a good start next time on the mound. He’ll rebound from being a July 22 MLB DFS Loser.

Pineda’s Outlook

Michael Pineda’s outing depends on what type of control he has of his fastball and yesterday was shaky. The five walks matched a season high for Pineda and equalled the same amount of free passes in his previous eight outings (45.2 innings). Pineda’s next outing is slated for Friday night in Chicago against the White Sox. The White Sox have the third-worst OPS in the American League behind Baltimore and Toronto. Look for Pineda to have a bounce-back start his next time out.

Dansby Swanson ($11,700)

Dansby Swanson went hitless in his four at-bats, but had a walk, a run and three strikeouts against the Washington Nationals in prime time. He has been struggling since the All-Star break, with 12 strikeouts in 10 games. With the Royals coming up on the schedule and a weak pitching staff, Swanson should be able to bounce back from being a July 22 MLB DFS Loser and get back to his first-half self.

Swanson’s Outlook

Dansby Swanson has been struggling as of late. He is slugging just .179 in his past seven games. In that same span, he has 10 strikeouts, which is uncharacteristic of the shortstop. The Braves have an off-day today before beginning an interleague series at home against the Kansas City Royals. The starter they will be facing is Danny Duffy, who is posting a 4.35 ERA in his past seven starts. Look for Swanson to break out of his slump starting tomorrow.

July 22 MLB DFS Injury Update

The Milwaukee Brewers placed Brandon Woodruff on the 10-day Injured List with a left oblique strain. He was pulled during the fourth inning and will have a MRI today.

Jean Segura of the Philadelphia Phillies left the game in the fourth inning with a sore left heel.

Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals exited the game with a right foot injury while running to first base. He will get a MRI on Monday.
