There’s not much to do in the NBA as the league takes a break during the festivities on All-Star weekend. I thought I might do a little write up on some of my thoughts for the NBA DFS showdown slate. I highly advise all my readers to join the staff at WinDaily in our Discord chat rooms as we discuss and break down some players even further.
SOME KEYNOTES
- The starters usually play the most minutes which translates to the best opportunity for fantasy points. In general, the captains lead all players in minutes. This becomes more evident when consulting the Vegas odds for MVP. Giannis Antetokounmpo (+450), Lebron James (+500), and Anthony Davis (+550)
- Reserves and big men tend to play the least amount of minutes and should be avoided for the most part on this NBA DFS showdown slate.
- Anthony Davis was born and raised in Chicago. He attended Perspectives Charter High School before heading to Kentucky and eventually the NBA. He’s the hometown hero of these games.
- Jimmy Butler was drafted 30th by the Bulls in 2011. In his last all-star game, he never got off the bench. His participation tonight is risky at best.
THE STUD
Giannis Antetokounmpo: Giannis is the reigning 2019 NBA MVP. He is well-rested after taking some time off for the birth of his baby. He’s a captain and a starter. He’s young and hungry and doesn’t really care to take the game off like many of the others. He goes in first for me in all formats on this NBA DFS showdown slate.
THE CORE
Anthony Davis: Davis looks to be a crowd favorite tonight. He should dominate in the paint with his teammate, Lebron, feeding him the ball. I’d take him over an under-motivated Embiid (the opposing center) any day of the week. Anthony also has a decent outside shot which may come in handy in this type of game.
Trey Young: Another young (no pun intended) and hungry player, also playing on team Giannis. I love the inside-outside stack of Giannis and Young here. Young is well suited for this type of game. He ranks 3rd in the NBA with 29.7 points per game, 5th with 9.4 3-point attempts, and 2nd with 9.2 assists per game. I do have a little hesitation here as Kemba looks to be the primary ball-handler. I truly envision a game script where Trey goes head to head with Harden, as perimeter shooters. Team Giannis does not have as many good options from the outside as team Lebron, so I can see Trey becoming a key piece of this game. Trey is probably my 2nd favorite option on this NBA DFS showdown slate.
THE MID-TIER
I really like how Jason Tatum’s game suits this contest well. With Anthony Davis on the same team and hoarding most of the minutes at Jason’s position, I’m going to have to fade him.
Pascal Siakam: Quite frankly just a move for the salary. Pascal has a decent outside game and a good inside game as well. He’s 15th in the league scoring 23.5 points per game. He also connects on 36.2% of his 5.8 attempts from outside the arc. Siakam is a listed starter and his salary is too cheap for his upside.
THE VALUE
Khris Middleton: One of the few non-starters I like. He happens to also be the cheapest. Middleton was 6 for 10 from deep last year, finishing with a 20/5/4 stat line. He’s projected for 21 minutes off the bench. Khris becomes a decent option for salary relief so you can try to squeeze 4 starters on to your NBA DFS roster.
