Welcome to the 12th edition of Formula 1 Race Week: Hungarian Grand Prix, July 2022.
Budapest, Hungary plays host to the 13th race of the year. A race in which Esteban Ocon lead all 65 laps last year. This race track is set up well to the strengths of the Ferrari with lots of slow-speed corners and only one straight. It’s a drag race to turn 1 and if pole sitter George Russell can get away clean, he has a chance to replicate Ocon’s performance from last year.
There is a bit of a shake-up amongst the top runners. George Russell finds himself on pole after Max Verstappen had engine problems, and George put together a top-notch lap, nudging out his teammate Lewis and the Ferrari pair. If he can stay ahead after turn 1 he can be in contention for the race win.
Formula 1: DFS Top Captain Options
George Russell, Mercedes $12,600
With George leading the pack from the starting grid he has a chance at the whole shot and cruising to a race victory. Budapest tends to be narrow with a lot of corners, so it can be difficult to pass. Let’s see if George can take advantage.
Max Verstappen, Red Bull $18000
Max finds himself in P10 after having issues on the last bit of qualifying. He has been in the top 2 all weekend on single lap pace, and top 5 in race pace. If you’re playing multiple fantasy lineups in DraftKings, having Max as captain makes sense. When Max has a functioning car, he’s a top driver.
Either Ferrari ($11,700) drivers
Charles Leclerc $17,100 Leclerc has been the other top driver all weekend…outside of qualifying for pole anyway. Charles has been getting the best out of his Ferrari which looks like a perfect race car to drive on the Budapest circuit. The Ferrari is very capable of putting George under pressure and taking the top spot, I would not put a race victory outside the hands of Charles this weekend.
If I am playing one lineup, Charles would be my captain.
Carlos Sainz Jr $15,300 There is not much to say about Carlos, other than he would be a contrarian Captain choice with every chance of beating his teammate and George Russell. I think Charles Leclerc’s driving style is more conducive to Budapest, but the sister Ferrari piloted by Carlos Sainz is no more than 0.3 seconds from Charles.
Carlos fits in nicely as well with George in the captain spot and Ferrari in the constructor position.
Formula 1: DFS Mid Tier options
Lando Norris McLaren $7400
Lando and Mclaren are constantly nipping at the heels of the top teams. In a tight battle with Alpine for the 4th constructor position, Lando has been amongst the quickest cars over the weekend, never being more than 0.5 seconds off the leader. I like Lando a lot this weekend, he would be a priority over Alonso for my DK lines.
Alpine $5800
As Lando is the guy for McLaren, the Alpine duo is right behind him on the starting grid, in positions 5 and 6. If Daniel Ricciardo P10, McLaren, could get his car towards the sharp end of the grid, we would have a top battle for the construction leader of the midfield.
That being said, the Alpines of Esteban Ocon $5800 and Fernando Alonso $7000 are in a position to score maximum points this weekend. If you can fit them into a DK line (not together of course) splitting them for the top 10 finish and beat teammate points makes a lot of sense. Thus making Alpine $5800 my choice for the value constructor of the weekend.
Aston Martin $3000
Sebastian Vettel $4800, Lance Stroll $3800 The Aston is a peculiar race team, they seem to be nowhere all weekend than boom, p10 when the race is over. The Aston has shown speed and pace this weekend in Budapest, with cheap price tags all around for Aston, I’m taking a shot with them both in my multiple lineups, and id advise you to do the same, limited of course.
Formula 1: DFS Other options
Valtteri Bottas $6600 Alfa Romeo
The Alfa wasn’t showing much all weekend until I analyzed the long-run race pace. Valtteri was within 0.5 seconds from Sergio Perez who himself was the 3rd fastest long run driver. Just like Aston, having a few shots with Valtteri in some lineups might not be so bad.
Formula 1: DFS Value 5-point options
Alex Albon $4000 is always feisty and will fight for your 5 points and Latifi being terrible doesn’t hurt.
Magnussen $4200 K-Mag has been quicker than his teammate all weekend. There are other options down in this price range, but K-Mag is not a bad “last man in” option.
Zhou $3200 Zhou Guanyu was right there with Valtteri in long run pace, at $3200, he makes for a very good cheap option.
DFS Constructor options
- Ferrari $11,700 Both drivers in the top 3 without the Red bull breathing down their neck, might be a godsend for the Scuderia this weekend.
- Mercedes $9600 George on pole, Lewis in p6 a good option for sure.
- Alpine $5800 p5 and p6, $3800 cheaper than Mercedes…count me in.
- McLaren $5500 there are some good options for constructor this week, count the McLaren in the same company.
- Aston Martin $3000, might be a long shot, but you can do some wonders with a $3000, the bare minimum constructor in your DraftKings lines.
Race Week Hungarian Grand Prix DFS overall strategy
Qualifying shook up the grid. There are quite a few options this weekend that all make a lot of sense. If you are playing a single entry going with a balanced lineup is logical and if you are playing multiple lines getting a little wild can always be fun.
