ROYVAL V TAIRA
After the spectacular action in Salt Lake City last week, we are back in Vegas for tonight’s UFC action. We have 12 fights lined up for tonight’s card with the main event featuring two flyweights looking to push towards a title shot. There are great matchup all throughout tonight card so be sure to check out the top picks and plays below! Now, with all that out of the way, let’s get right into the action!
SLATE STARTS AT 4:00 PM ET
Exposure to the main event is highly recommended. DFS production in these fights is usually high as they are five-round fights. I do not recommend branching away from the Main Event. These fighters are usually both active, and they can rack up a lot of points. There will be four top plays followed by best bets. Now, let’s get ready to make some money!
Tonight, I’m here to give you my top four favorite DFS and Sports betting picks for UFC Vegas 98 Royval vs Taira.
MY UFC VALUE TARGET (CASH & GPP):
Lucas Rocha vs Clayton Carpenter
To start off today’s card we have two contender series alumni from the flyweight division.
Despite having a loss on his record Rocha has an astounding 18 fights at only 24 years old, compared to his opponent who has half as many fights under his belt.
The most underrated aspect of Rocha’s fight game is his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. With so many KOs on his record, one would think that he would avoid fighting on the ground. However, in reality, Rocha is third degree BJJ black belt who has also won world championships in BJJ.
Despite both fighters being very well rounded, I will be taking the more experienced fighter who holds an incredible BJJ pedigree and heavy hands.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Lucas Rocha by UNANIMOUS DECISION (possible SECOND ROUND-KO).
MY UFC LOCKED-IN TARGET (CASH):
Ramazan Temirov vs CJ Vergara
Temirov is a very exciting prospect in the UFCs Flyweight division as he has finished his last four opponents via 1st Round KO including two in the Rizin Fighting Federation. Vergara on the other hand has weighed in heavy in three of his six UFC fights and has gone 3 for 3 during his time in the octagon.
Vergara has not impressed me during his time in the octagon, and I don’t think his abilities are at the level needed to compete on a UFC roster.
Temirov’s boxing technique is super clean, and he packs a lot of power in his punches; I can see Vergara getting knocked out early in this one as he won’t be used to Temirov’s hand speed or power.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Ramazan Temirov by FIRST-ROUND KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION)
MY UFC TOP SCORING TARGET (GPP):
Themba Gorimbo vs Niko Price
What a story, from nothing to UFC stardom, Gorimbo has backed up his difficult past with hard work and lots of talent. Tonight he’s up against a seasoned UFC vet in Niko Price.
Unfortunately for Price, he hasn’t had a lot going for him in the UFC as of late dropping three of his last five fights while being on the wrong end of two KOs in the process.
Gorimbo on the other hand is starting to heat up, coming off of three straight wins including a first minute KO against Pete Rodriguez. Although I don’t see him getting it done that quickly tonight, I can see Gorimbo putting Price out with a KO midway through the fight.
Gorimbo has heavy hands and a strong gas tank, he’ll be ready to take whatever Price throws at him and send strikes back with incredible power and precision.
It’s important to note that Gorimbo has gone to a decision a few times as of late and there’s a chance that it could happen again. So for your parlays, I would recommend taking him by Double Chance (KO/Decision).
MY UFC DFS PICK: Themba Gorimbo by SECOND-ROUND KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION)
MY MAIN EVENT PREDICTION (CASH & GPP):
Brandon Royval vs Tatsuro Taira
When looking at this matchup, I was honestly pretty surprised that Royval came into it as an underdog. Of course he is up against an undefeated opponent but we have seen Royval compete with and beat some of the divisions best fighters.
Stylistically, this matchup works well for Royval as well. He is a very active striker which will keep Taira on the back foot and he has a solid grappling pedigree with a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
If Royval can keep this one on the feet for most of the fight, I think he’ll be in a much better position to win than Taira. Royval has the skill but, as we saw against Pantoja, it will come down to his consistent defense.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Brandon Royval by SECOND ROUND-KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION.)
