MORENO V ALBAZI
Today’s UFC action is taking us to the great white north in Edmonton, AB, Canada, where 8 Canadians are suiting up for tonight’s fights. We have 13 fights lined up for tonight’s card, with the main event featuring two top flyweights looking to push into the title conversation, including former champ Brandon Moreno! There are great matchups all throughout tonight’s card, so be sure to check out the top picks and plays below! Now, with all that out of the way, let’s get right into the action!
SLATE STARTS AT 5:00 PM ET
Exposure to the main event is highly recommended. DFS production in these fights is usually high as they are five-round fights. I do not recommend branching away from the Main Event. These fighters are usually both active, and they can rack up a lot of points. There will be four top plays followed by best bets. Now, let’s get ready to make some money!
Tonight, I’m here to give you my top four favorite DFS and Sports betting picks for UFC Edmonton Moreno v Albazi.
MY UFC VALUE TARGET (CASH & GPP):
Brendson Ribeiro vs Caio Machado
Both Caio and Brendson are in similar spots in their UFC careers, having dropped their last two fights after earning a contract on the Contender series. With both of these fighters having their UFC roster spots on the line, we will see both fighters give it their absolute all to stay in the mix.
In situations like this, I lean towards experience, and in this situation, Ribeiro has had ten more MMA fights than Machado and more than double the amount of KOs that Machado has had throughout his career. Ribeiro’s power is no joke, and all he needs is one sequence of strikes to end Machado’s night early, as we saw in his massive upset win over now UFC fighter Bruno Lopes.
It is also important to note that Caio Machado is coming down in weight class after having fought his first two UFC fights as Heavyweight. Unlike most divisions, this is a weight difference of 46 lbs, and that will certainly take its toll, considering all that weight was cut between this fight and his last fight earlier this year (late April).
All things considered, I am locking in the value on Brendson Ribeiro in this spot.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Brendson Ribeiro by SECOND-ROUND KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION).
MY UFC LOCKED-IN TARGET (CASH):
Mike Malott vs Trevin Giles
Malott is a solid UFC fighter, and despite coming up short against Neil Magny, he was still on a 3-0-0 run in the UFC that included a first-round KO, a first-round Submission and a second-round KO. Malott showed every UFC fan early on what he is capable of, and with this matchup against Trevin Giles, he is in a perfect position to bounce back from his first UFC loss.
Giles is well known for his grappling ability and, frankly, not much else. When he does win fights, he wins them by decision, and he hasn’t seen much success as of late, going 2-4 over his last six fights, including a nasty KO loss earlier this year to Carlos Prates.
Now, the logical question to ask is, would Malott’s grappling ability be able to keep up with Giles? And the answer is a resounding yes. In fact, Malott and Giles have competed before in a grappling-only competition. Here, Malott was able to secure a unanimous decision victory. Now, given that result and mixing in the added striking ability from Malott, I see him having a huge bounce-back performance in this fight.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Mike Malott by SECOND-ROUND KO (possible FIRST-ROUND SUBMISSION)
MY UFC TOP SCORING TARGET (GPP):
Youssef Zalal vs Jack Shore
One of my favorite plays of the card is right here. Youssef Zalal will be taking on Jack Shore, which will be a huge clash of styles. Shore, who likes to grind out decision wins with low danger, high volume strikes and high control time against Zalal, a talented grappler always looking for a submission.
Even with this quick description, you can see the big problem that Shore is going to face in this matchup; he won’t be able to grapple his way to a victory here. Zalal is better than him in the grappling department, which will be very evident immediately. I see Zalal wasting no time here, securing an advantage early and finding a quick finish. Regardless, he can compete with Shore on the feet and take him down at will. I see an early finish from Zalal here. However, we could see a strong technical grappling fight, and I see Zalal having a clear edge.
Be sure to lock in Zalal in this matchup early on tonight’s card.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Youssef Zalal by FIRST-ROUND SUBMISSION (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION)
MY MAIN EVENT PREDICTION (CASH & GPP):
Brandon Moreno vs Amir Albazi
Moreno is coming into this one looking to make a statement after two consecutive split decision losses. He is back against some new competition in Amir Albazi. Albazi certainly earned this shot against one of the division’s top fighters after going 5-0-0 in his UFC career to this point, including a win last year over top contender Kai-Kara France. This matchup, however, will by far be Albazi’s biggest test in the UFC, as he’ll be up against a two-time UFC champion with a massive chip on his shoulder.
Tactically speaking, Moreno has surprising power and can mix in seamless takedown attempts to gain a significant advantage over his opponent. Moreno’s striking activity in the octagon is also higher, and they are pretty equal in their defensive abilities. As we saw in his win against Kara-France, Moreno can also mix in the kicks effectively, and I think that is what will separate him from Albazi in this matchup. Look for Moreno’s kicks to target the liver and the calf to slow Albazi down and limit his mobility. I can see him getting a stoppage late in the third or riding this one to a decision.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Brandon Moreno by THIRD ROUND-KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION.)
