PANTOJA V ASAKURA
As we inch closer towards the new year, the UFC has lined up an incredible card for the last PPV of the year! We have 14 fights lined up on tonight’s card, with the main event featuring an exciting UFC debutant and RIZIN Star, Kai Asakura, fighting Alexandre Pantoja for the UFC Flyweight title! There are great matchups all throughout the night, so be sure to check out the top picks and plays below! Now, with all that out of the way, let’s get right into the action!
SLATE STARTS AT 6:00 PM ET
Exposure to the main event is highly recommended. DFS production in these fights is usually high as they are five-round fights. I do not recommend branching away from the Main Event. These fighters are usually both active, and they can rack up a lot of points. There will be four top plays followed by best bets. Now, let’s get ready to make some money!
Tonight, I’m here to give you my top four favorite DFS and Sports betting picks for UFC 310 Pantoja vs Asakura.
MY UFC VALUE TARGET (CASH & GPP):
Michael Chiesa vs Max Griffin
At nearly even money, the oddsmakers aren’t seeing a lot of separation between the two longtime talents in Michael Chiesa and Max Griffin.
While Griffin has more traditionally relied on his power and speed, Chiesa has more replied on his submissions and grappling, and while Chiesa has been able to keep pace with his opponents on the feet, Griffin has not faced as many opponents with the heavy takedown and grappling style of Chiesa. I don’t see Griffin being able to adapt quickly enough to the repeated takedown attempts, and I expect Chiesa to either grapple his way to a decision or wear Griffin down and finish him via submission partway through the fight. Either way, this matchup is a true clash of different MMA styles and we will see a real show between these two warriors
MY UFC DFS PICK: Michael Chiesa by SECOND-ROUND SUBMISSION (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION).
MY UFC LOCKED-IN TARGET (CASH):
Clay Guida vs Chase Hooper
At 62 fights and nearly 43 years of age, it’s safe to say that Guida’s prime is well and truly behind him. Although he has had some good performances throughout his career, his opponent tonight is a rising star in the UFC who has an extremely impressive grappling ability.
Hooper is coming off of two straight submission wins against stronger opponents than a washed Clay Guida, and Guida himself has not competed in the octagon in nearly a year.
We have also seen Hooper’s striking improve in a significant way making this a tough matchup for Guida no matter where the fight is taking place.
It will be clear from the outset of this fight that Guida no longer belongs in the UFC octagon. I expect Hooper to secure a clean and convincing submission win in this matchup. For those looking to add a nice leg to their parlays, take Hooper via Submission at -163.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Cong Wang by FIRST-ROUND KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION)
MY UFC TOP SCORING TARGET (GPP):
Bryce Mitchell vs Kron Gracie
On paper, this matchup is simply not fair. It’s widely reported that Gracie’s mentality around MMA is not healthy and that many feel as though he won’t even want to be in the Octagon tonight. That is a dangerous mentality to hold when fighting at the highest levels of any sport. If you’re not in the right headspace, you will lose focus and lose the competition.
Bryce Mitchell, on the other hand, has locked in some excellent UFC wins throughout his career and has made his opponents pay dearly for their mistakes.
Despite having a lot of decision wins on his record, the mismatch in focus, experience, and talent has me seeing this fight ending earlier than some may expect. Although there is not a lot of value from a betting perspective (-1000 Moneyline) if you would like to take a shot on this card, take Mitchell to finish Gracie in this fight.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Bryce Mitchell by FIRST-ROUND SUBMISSION (possible SECOND-ROUND KO)
MY MAIN EVENT PREDICTION (CASH & GPP):
Alexandre Pantoja vs Kai Asakura
For the main event, we have a UFC debutant and a seasoned champion who has already run through the whole Flyweight division.
Although Asakura has looked good in his last couple of RIZIN fights, this is an extremely steep jump in competition that, personally, I don’t think he’ll be ready for. He has even fought UFC talent like Manel Kape before and lost quite handily.
Pantoja is a well-rounded striker and a talented grappler and won’t have many weaknesses for Asakura to exploit. Even though the fight may start out competitive, Asakura will slowly fall behind as the fight progresses. Especially since Pantoja has far more experience with five-round fights, and Asakura has been nearly one year removed from his last MMA fight.
I’ll be taking the champ via Decision in the final title fight of the year.
MY UFC DFS PICK: Alexandre Pantoja by UNANIMOUS DECISION
