FanDuel MLB Daily Lineups: Slate Summary for July 29
I’m pleasantly surprised by how well yesterdays very unpredictable FanDuel MLB slate turned out for us. Austin Voth wasn’t a great play, but Mills piled up 31 FanDuel MLB points on top of a very low $6.3K salary.
Along with the Angels stack and some of our value plays, both GPP and cash games were winnable in, what seemed like, a seemingly impossible format to figure out.
On Wednesday, games start again around 3:40PM ET, giving us an ‘Early Only’ and ‘All Day’ slate to consider for FanDuel MLB. In addition, we have our standard Main slate starting at 7:05pm ET.
I’m likely going to split my plays up into a lineup for Early Only and a lineup for the Main slate. So, we’ll talk about picks for each part of the MLB DFS schedule for Wednesday.
Top Pitching Plays
For the ‘Early Only’ slate, we actually have a decent number of pitchers to pick through, and four solid options.
Max Scherzer ($10,900) is the top play, given his incredibly high 35.3% K-rate, injecting a huge fantasy baseball ceiling for SP’s in this slate. Sonny Gray ($10,000) is another strong consideration, but Max has the better match-up.
If you’re really loading up on expensive bats, consider Lance Lynn ($8,900) hosting the Diamondbacks and a very cheap Frankie Montas ($7,700) play this afternoon.
Max Scherzer | 12.87 | 0.96 | 35.3% | 5.2% | 30.2% | 0.222 | 1.05 | 0.326 | 3.04 | 2.48 | 2.85 | Early |
Frankie Montas | 9.72 | 0.72 | 26.2% | 6.3% | 19.9% | 0.228 | 1.13 | 0.298 | 2.61 | 3.02 | 3.5 | Early |
Lance Lynn | 10.71 | 0.88 | 28.4% | 7.0% | 21.4% | 0.238 | 1.21 | 0.319 | 3.57 | 3.10 | 3.86 | Early |
Sonny Gray | 10.62 | 0.89 | 29.4% | 9.6% | 19.8% | 0.192 | 1.08 | 0.255 | 2.83 | 3.41 | 3.57 | Early |
For the Main slate, we have more arms on the mound but nearly as many good plays as the Early Only slate. Of all options, Gerrit Cole ($11,700) should be our best overall fantasy baseball play of the day.
If you need to shave off some salary for better offensive plays, don’t be afraid to pivot to Jacob deGrom ($11,200) just because the Mets are hosting the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are still a decent hitting team against RHP’s away from Boston, but compared to say…an Astros team (with trash can banging), they’re not as much of a threat.
The Red Sox have a 107 wRC+ against RHP’s in this situation, since earl 2019. But, they also have a 22% K-rate, which could be exploitable with a Cy Young winning pitcher like deGrom.
Jacob deGrom | 11.33 | 0.82 | 32.0% | 5.5% | 26.6% | 0.202 | 0.96 | 0.279 | 2.37 | 2.62 | 3.08 | Main |
Gerrit Cole | 13.71 | 1.24 | 39.6% | 5.9% | 33.8% | 0.183 | 0.88 | 0.268 | 2.48 | 2.69 | 2.54 | Main |
Dustin May | 8.31 | 0.46 | 22.4% | 3.1% | 19.3% | 0.263 | 1.15 | 0.333 | 3.46 | 2.71 | 3.56 | Main |
Charlie Morton | 11.05 | 0.72 | 30.1% | 7.2% | 23.0% | 0.218 | 1.10 | 0.302 | 3.26 | 2.86 | 3.32 | Main |
Brandon Woodruff | 10.52 | 0.92 | 28.9% | 6.1% | 22.9% | 0.238 | 1.14 | 0.318 | 3.62 | 3.08 | 3.35 | Main |
Dustin May ($6,100) actually looked impressive in his first start of this season, subbing in for Kershaw at the time. But, he’s not a great play against a pissed off Astros team in Houston.
Brandon Woodruff ($8,700) makes more sense, facing the Pirates in Pittsburgh, if you need to save a lot of money at the SP spot. Charlie Morton ($9,400) is a solid decision in-between expensive and modest.
Hitting Stacks, Value, and Best Plays
There aren’t many obvious stacks to target in the Early Only slate, which makes me a little nervous. I do like the idea of the White Sox facing Plesac in Cleveland.
That said, the Indians offense is smoking hot right now, and complete offensive stack of the game in Cleveland could yield a decent ROI in this slate.
Also, while I think Montas is a solid play, I do like lefty David Dahl ($2,900) facing Frankie today. Additionally, we could get some solid returns from righty bats like Isiah Kiner-Falefa ($2,200) and Nick Solak ($2,200), whose dirt-cheap against lefty Bumgarner.
Lastly, the Nationals have been off to a slow offensive start, without Juan Soto in the lineup. But, this match-up could be an opportunity for them to turn the season around quickly.
Name | K/9 | HR/9 | K% | BB% | AVG | WHIP | BABIP | ERA | xFIP | Opponent | Slate |
Danny Duffy | 7.80 | 1.40 | 21% | 8% | 0.248 | 1.29 | 0.282 | 4.33 | 5.19 | Tigers | Main |
Zach Plesac | 6.85 | 1.48 | 19% | 8% | 0.236 | 1.23 | 0.255 | 3.81 | 5.06 | White Sox | Early |
Johnny Cueto | 7.20 | 1.35 | 19% | 12% | 0.216 | 1.30 | 0.236 | 4.50 | 4.88 | Padres | Main |
Asher Wojciechowski | 8.74 | 1.86 | 22% | 8% | 0.247 | 1.31 | 0.278 | 4.92 | 5.61 | Yankees | Main |
Nathan Eovaldi | 9.04 | 1.95 | 23% | 11% | 0.269 | 1.53 | 0.311 | 5.62 | 4.74 | Mets | Main |
Justin Dunn | 6.75 | – | 17% | 30% | 0.095 | 1.65 | 0.125 | 2.70 | 8.15 | Angels | Main |
The Main slate was a little easier to figure out for offense. Both the Angels and Mets should be great plays tonight. And, a very powerful, but FanDuel MLB expensive, Yankees offense SHOULD be on the field (finally!).
I’d consider stacking any combination of either the Halos or the Yankees, with the Mets. For value stacks, the Padres are still relatively cheap, and guys like C.J. Cron ($3,100) on the Tigers continue to make that offense dirt-cheap as well.
Both the Padres and the Tigers have a juicy match-up for hitting stacks.
July 29 Lineup Summary
While Gray and Montas are appealing in the Early Only FanDuel MLB slate, I’d rather have pay a little more for Scherzer, or get better value from Lynn. Either should give you over 30 FanDuel MLB points at the SP spot, but Max has a high ceiling in this match-up.
For offensive plays in the Early Only slate, I’d consider stacking the White Sox, Indians, or Nationals. And there are some solid value moves you can make like Kiner-Falefa, Solak, or Dahl.
Dahl isn’t exactly as cheap as Kiner-Falefa, but his fantasy baseball point potential this afternoon is significantly higher.
In the Main slate, I’d consider Cole your top play, with deGrom a solid pivot for some MLB DFS salary back on the table. But you should also consider Woodruff a very good value play at the SP position.
For offense in the Main slate, I absolutely love the potential the Yankees stack brings us. And I’m likely going to be flipping between Yankees and Angels, as I see the lineups released. Stacking them with the Mets.
If you need some offensive value tonight, look at the Tigers and Padres.
