What is up everyone, happy hump day! Check out the FanDuel MLB 9/15 breakdown below.
As usual, I will be going over 3 pitchers and 3 teams that we should be looking to stack in our FanDuel lineups. Another Wednesday, another early slate of games followed by a mid-sized main slate. Luckily, I can again confirm that there are zero games with a high PPD concern from a weather standpoint. With that said, let’s get into the picks!
The Aces
A. We have three pitchers taking the mound today with a 3.50 SIERA or lower, and all three are throwing in an earlier slate. What a tease, right? That leaves us with a group of arms that I struggle to call “aces”, but they are still our top three options on the night. The first of those three is Julio Urias ($10,300), who is probably not accustomed to being the highest price arm on a main slate, but here we are. Urias owns a 3.58 SIERA, which is good for the lowest mark on the docket, and he draws a juicy matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Even if Yu Darvish would could not get it done in this matchup, this is still an extremely favorable spot statistically for a pitcher. If we want to take the safe route on FanDuel this evening, my SP1 is our map to it.
B. If we are looking to spend up a bit more for our batters, then may I interest you in the Braves starting pitcher tonight, Huascar Ynoa ($8,400). Please do not ask me to pronounce his name, but Ynoa is in a great spot tonight against a weak Rockies offense that cannot do much outside the friendly confines of their home ballpark. Ynoa is putting together a very strong season for Atlanta, posting a 3.59 SIERA, 27% strikeout rate, and a 6.6% walk rate. Those are extremely solid numbers for a pitcher priced in the mid-$8,000 range, and he is honestly close to $1,000 too cheap this evening. There is a much lower opportunity cost on this slate given that we are not passing on some insanely high-upside strikeout arm, so this is the perfect spot to play Ynoa.
C. The final pitcher that I will be looking to target this evening is Sean Manaea ($9,200). If you have been a loyal reader of mine all season, I bet that you thought I would be writing up Joe Musgrove here. However, as we saw with Darvish against that Giants squad, they are not a team to be messed with. Alright, enough Darvish victory lapping AZ, tell me why I should play the man with too many A’s in his last name. Well, for starters Manaea has a top five strikeout rate on this main slate, as he has fanned opposing hitters 26.6% of the time this season. Additionally, he draws a much easier matchup than Musgrove, as he faces the Kansas City Royals, although they have been swinging some pretty hot sticks recently. In the end, Manaea is $200 cheaper than Musgrove on FanDuel in a much better matchup.
The Bases
A. It shocks me every time that I see it, but we somehow have yet another start coming from Jon Lester this evening. The New York Mets will not be complaining, as they get the pleasure of teeing off on the old man with a brutal 5.48 SIERA and 13.6% strikeout rate. While the Metropolitans will certainly not be low owned, I am hoping that they are not extremely chalky just because of how poorly their offense has played throughout this entire season. At the risk of being fired by our Mets fan founder, I will leave it at that. Target the Mets tonight early and often, along with any team that is taking swings against Lester down the stretch.
B. On Monday, I wrote about stacking the Houston Astros, who proceeded to post 15 runs on the board against the Texas Rangers. As you can see, Monday was a pretty successful day for yours truly. I will be returning right back to this well after they posted a disappointing one run last night. Tonight, the Stros face off against Kohei Arihara, who is not far behind Lester in terms of subpar pitching capabilities. That is not company that you should want to keep, Kohei. The Astros are a team that can produce even in tough matchups, so when they draw easy ones, we should stack them up as much as possible.
C. The final team of the night that I think is interesting for FanDuel GPPs is the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox take on the LA Angels, who will be rolling out Janson Junk onto the mound. Man, what a brutal last name this guy was stuck with, and it is made even worse by his first name. Names aside, this is a pitcher that is due for some serious regression, as he owns a 2.45 ERA, but a 5.27 underlying SIERA. This indicates that he has been pretty lucky to limit runs as well as he has, and the White Sox are the type of power-hitting team that can bring his ERA up to where it should be in a hurry. This team is insanely underpriced across the DFS industry, so let’s continue to plug them in until the algorithms adjust.
