As usual, I will be going over 3 pitchers and 3 teams that we should be looking to stack in our FanDuel lineups. We have a large 13 game main slate as usual for a Friday evening. There are also a few weather concerns that we need to keep our eyes on heading up to lock at 7:07. With that said, let’s get into the picks!
The Aces
A. I will always have a soft spot in this article for Carlos Rodon ($11,200), as I wrote him up here in a spot where he got scratched. He then came back to the same matchup in the same situation and threw essentially a perfect game, but it went down in the books as a no-hitter due to a toe ball. Rodon draws a matchup against the Seattle Mariners tonight and even though this is a massive slate, he still owns the lowest SIERA and highest strikeout rate on the entire board. The Mariners are not an offense that scares me so this automatically makes Rodon my favorite play on the slate if we are able to find the cheap bats that allow us to afford him.
B. For my SP2 on FanDuel Friday night, I will be looking to roster Framber Valdez ($10,700). Do not worry, I will save us some salary with my SP3, but for my top two arms I will definitely be paying up tonight. Valdez owns a 3.23 SIERA, 25.1% strikeout rate, and only hands out free passes 6% of the time. While the strikeout rate does not exactly blow us away, especially for an arm at this price point, he should be able to limit runs with ease against this soft Tigers offense. Most of the field will almost certainly pay the extra $500 for Rodon, which I will likely do frequently as well, but Valdez is a solid GPP pivot.
C. While it is tough to find many cheap pitchers that are viable to roster on FanDuel, Chris Paddack ($8,500) is serviceable tonight at a reasonable price. The Arizona Diamondbacks have been pretty brutal when it comes to run production lately, and Paddack sports a 3.73 SIERA, 24.8% strikeout rate, and only a 5.1% walk rate over the last two seasons. His strikeout numbers are not far behind Valdez who is significantly more expensive, so taking the savings here to pay up for some expensive sticks is definitely a potential option for us tonight.
The Bases
A. Well, things with the Houston Astros are starting to get pretty ridiculous. As usual last night, these guys helped DFS players win boatloads of money. Now tonight, they draw a matchup against the worst pitcher on the entire day, Wily Peralta. At this point we can just stack this team every night without worrying about it, and Friday is no different. Peralta has a SIERA approaching six, and a strikeout rate that is equal to his walk rate, as both sit at 10.3%. Whenever you see that, you know that this is a pitcher that should not be in the majors. Stack the Astros every which way per usual on FanDuel tonight.
B. The second team that I will be looking to get as much exposure to as possible tonight is the San Diego Padres. The Padres will be taking swings against Corbin Martin and the Diamondbacks bullpen. There is a reason that the D-Backs are +250 underdogs tonight and it is not only their pitcher, it is also the pitcher on the other side. As you can see, I love both sides of the ball for the Padres tonight, and Corbin Martin has the second worst SIERA on the slate. His walk rate is an obscene 15.2%, so it will be tough for the Padres to avoid having a plethora of traffic on the base paths.
C. The final team that I will be looking to get exposure to on FanDuel tonight is the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals got slapped around by the Pirates last night, but I expect them to take care of business against the lowly Wil Crowe. Crowe’s ERA of 7.35 is absolutely brutal, and his SIERA of 5.14 is not too much better either. Similar to the other gas cans mentioned above, he has a massive walk rate and a below average strikeout rate. I do not expect the Cardinals to be very popular tonight so they are a great option for GPPs.
