As usual, I will be going over 3 pitchers and 3 teams that we should be looking to stack in our FanDuel lineups. We only have six games on the main slate as Monday has been a lighter day lately in the MLB. I had a nice vacation last week but I am ready to jump back into the daily MLB DFS grind. With that said, let’s get into the picks!
The Aces
A. While there are only six baseball games tonight, there are zero NBA playoff games until tomorrow, so the MLB tournaments on both DraftKings and FanDuel are hefty. Unfortunately, the best pitcher on the day is in the early game in Jacob deGrom, so we will have to settle for Yu Darvish ($10,000) as our de facto ace of the main slate tonight. Darvish sports a 3.30 SIERA, 2.31 ERA, and a 30.3% strikeout rate. That strikeout rate is the best mark on the main slate, which automatically gives him the most upside. This is not exactly a slam dunk spot against the potent Dodgers offense, but Darvish has the stuff to excel in any matchup.
B. I will round out my pitching section with the only other two arms on the day that have a strikeout rate above 28%. The first of said arms is Tyler Mahle ($8,800) who will be throwing against the Minnesota Twins. Mahle owns a 3.69 SIERA, 3,47 ERA, and a very respectable 29.7% strikeout rate over the last two seasons. The Twins are a middle of the road matchup when it comes to strikeouts and run production, so Mahle has a pretty solid floor here at a reasonable price tag.
C. My final pitcher for FanDuel on Monday night is Adbert Alzolay ($8,500) who will be facing off against the Cleveland Indians offense. Alzolay owns a 3.75 SIERA, a nearly identical 3.76 ERA, and a strong 28.5% strikeout rate. To put the slate into context, the next highest K rate is sitting at only 24.2%, and that is from Ian Anderson who draws a matchup against the Padres. In other words, we likely are not considering any arms other than the three that I have in my article today. Jose Ramirez is the only bat that really scares us here, so we can target double A in all formats to save some salary.
The Bases
A. To kick things off for the bats that we should be looking to stack tonight, I will be sticking with the Cincinnati Reds as they get the pleasure of facing off against J.A. Happ. Happ has really fallen off a cliff with his performance, struggling to a 4.82 SIERA, 4.92 ERA, and only a 18.6% strikeout rate. I will also throw a free bet recommendation in here as I love the Reds at -115 or better and -0.5 F5. I am really surprised to see them listed at nearly a pick ’em price in this spot, especially with Cruz and Donaldson potentially not suiting up. The Reds should tee off on Happ early and often Monday night.
B. The Arizona Diamondbacks are the second team that I will be looking to get heavy exposure to tonight as they take swings against Brett Anderson. The D-Backs do not strikeout against left-handed pitching, and they really crush the ball against lefties as well. Anderson owns a 4.52 SIERA, 4,23 ERA, and a brutally low 15.2% strikeout rate. With Darvish pitching against the Dodgers late, I expect this game to be the late night hammer that we need to reach the top of those GPP leaderboards.
C. The final team that I will be looking to target for my offense on FanDuel tonight is the Oakland Athletics who are matched up against Kyle Gibson. I have been hearing Gibson get some buzz as a salary-saver SP2 on DraftKings, so I love the A’s leverage that we will get over there, but I do not expect him to get much traction on FanDuel. Gibson has a 4.51 SIERA, 3.60 ERA, and only a 19.6% strikeout rate. While we will not get direct leverage off of a highly owned pitcher, I do expect the Athletics to carry the lowest ownership of the three teams that I am looking to for bats tonight.
