Welcome back to another exciting season of CFB! We are starting Week three action on Saturday with a big 14-game slate. We are starting to enter conference matchups, which always make for great environments.
The purpose of this article is to break down the college football main slates both on the DFS and betting sites. The article includes my favorite plays at every position as well as honorable mentions. You can also find my favorite bets under my Dragos Best Bets section.
The QBs:
The matchup that everyone is on this week is Oregon vs. Colorado. QBs Bo Nix and Shadeur Sanders are definitely in play, but since the majority of people will be on them, I won’t be including them in the QB write-up.
Thomas Castellanos (BC): $5,900
Castellanos has been one of the best DFS QBs in CFB despite being on a bad BC team. His best performance so far this season was last week against FSU, which has been their most difficult opponent. His rushing ability is what has helped him average 27.3 DK points so far this year. Castellanos gets a solid Louisville defense this week that has only given up 337 total yards per game, which has them ranked 59th in total defense. But the Cardinals have allowed rushing yards to opponent QBs, as in their three games, opposing QBs have rushed for over 100 yards.
Who to pair him with: Lewis Bond, Ryan O’Keefe. Castellanos can also be played solo because of his rushing upside.
Jordan Travis (FSU): $9,400
Travis and FSU fell into a bit of a trap last week against BC, with everyone’s eyes focused on this huge ACC matchup against Clemson. This weekend, I expect to see a Travis that looks more like the one we saw take on LSU the first week of the season. On paper, Clemson has a good pass defense, as they have yet to allow a 200-yard passer. But that shouldn’t worry you, as two of Clemson’s first three opponents were FAU and Charleston, which have below-average offenses compared to the top D1 schools. The other team that Clemson has faced is Duke, whose QB Riley Leonard torched the Clemson defense with just under 200 passing and 100 rushing yards en route to the upset win. Travis has a better arm than Leonard but is slightly less of a runner, but his skill set should provide problems to Clemson like Leonard did.
Who to pair him with: Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson
Dillon Gabriel (OU): $9,100
Dillon Gabriel has had a great start to his season, throwing for over 300 yards in two of his three games and having at least two touchdowns in all three. This week, Gabriel goes up against Cincinnati’s 46th-ranked pass defense. The Bearcats have been hard to pass against as they are allowing under 200 yards a game, but they rank second to last in all CFB in yards per completion (16.94). Gabriel averages 11.3 yards per completion, so he should be able to pick apart Cincinnati for a couple big plays.
Who to pair him with: Andrel Anthony, Drake Stoops, and Jalil Farooq
Honorable Mentions: Preston Stone (SMU) $7,400. Tyler Shough (TTU) $8,100. Jaxson Dart (OleMiss) $9,200. Cade Klubnik (CLEM) $7,300. Emeory Jones (CINNCY) $6,900. Connor Weigman (TA&M) $8,900. Tyler van Dyke (MIA) $8,600.
The RBs:
Blake Corum (MICH): $8,300
Corum hasn’t had the success I predicted he would have coming into this season, but he has still put up solid rushing numbers. He’s coming into the game averaging 12.3 carries, 84.7 yards, and 2 touchdowns per game. Corum should see an increase in rushing attempts as QB McCarthy struggled last week against a bad Bowling Green side.
Jawhar Jordan (UL) $6,500:
With transfer QB Jack Plummer still struggling to have success with the Cardinals, they have been relying on Jordan to lead their offense. That shouldn’t change on Saturday as they take on a BC defense that is giving up three rushing touchdowns per game. Jordan is my core RB this weekend, as he should continue to be the vocal point of Louisville’s offense.
Rasheen Ali (MRSHL): $6,000
Sign me up for Ali at 6K. The Marshall RB is priced $1200 higher than he was in his previous appearance on the CFB Main Slate. The price increase should see the field slightly less on him compared to two weeks ago, when he was everyone’s value RB. This week, Ali is going up against one of the worst rush defenses in all of CFB. VTech has allowed 212 rushing yards and 2.3 touchdowns per game. Ali comes in averaging 111 yards and 2.5 touchdowns per game. With Marshall’s passing game not clicking so far, I expect them to run often against a bad team.
Honorable Mentions: Quinshon Judkins (OleMiss) $7,700. Kyle Monangai (RU) $5,300. Henry Parrish Jr (MIA) $5,900. Devin Neal (KU) $5,900. Carson Steele (UCLA) $6,300. Bucky Irving (ORE) $7,500.
The WRs:
Troy Franklin (Oregon):
Franklin is the WR1 for Oregon who’s involved in the highest total game (70.5). Franklin, along with the two WRs I’ve touched upon next, should see big names as both offenses can score at will. The Oregon WR has had a good start to his season, having 17 receptions for 292 yards and three scores. This weekend against Colorado, it’ll be hard to imagine his dominance doesn’t continue, as Colorado is giving up over two passing touchdowns per game. He’ll carry ownership like the next two WRs I’ll talk about, but in cash games and SE, he has slate-breaking potential.
Joe Horn Jr./Xavier Weaver (CU):
Like mentioned above, this Colorado/Oregon game has the highest total of the entire CFB weekend. I’m including both of them since Colorado doesn’t have a clear WR1, and with Travis Hunter being ruled out, both WRs should see an uptick in targets. Oregon’s pass defense is solid on paper, but besides Texas Tech, they haven’t had any issues. In that Texas Tech game, Oregon allowed yards and scores but were saved by their takeaway abilities, which for WR DFS purposes isn’t really an issue.
Evan Stewart (TA&M) $6,700:
Stewart has been one of my favorite WRs for DFS this season. He’s built a great connection with QB Weigman that has seen him catch 19 balls for 257 yards and two touchdowns in the two games he’s played. Texas A&M gets a tough matchup against an undefeated Auburn. Last week, Weigman struggled without Stewart against a weaker side, so I expect Weigman to come out and target Stewart early to rebuild the momentum they had prior to Stewart missing the last game.
Honorable Mentions: Jamari Thrash (UL) $6,600. Jordan Watkins (MISS) $6,500. Xavier Restrepo (MIA) $5,800. Jarend Bradley (TTU) $5,900. Xzavier Henderson (CINCY) $6,300. Beaux Collins (CLEM) $4,900. Roman Wilson (MICH) $5,500. Jay Fair (AUB) $5,100.
Value Plays (4.5K and under): Braden Smith (CINCY) $4,200. Jared Wiley (TCU) $3,900. RJ Maryland (SMU) $3,400. Rivaldo Fairweather (AUB) $4,300. Terrance Ferguson (ORE) $3,900.
Drago’s Best Bets:
- FSU -2
- SMU vs TCU Over 63.5
- Duke -23.5
- Texas A&M -7.5
