UFC 252 Analysis:
Now that Dana White’s Contender Series is behind us, our next opportunity to make a significant deposit into our bank accounts during a global pandemic arrives on August 15th. Daniel “DC” Cormier takes on Stipe Miocic in a trilogy match for one final attempt at glory, hoping to dethrone the current Heavyweight king and retire as the UFC HW Champion. With this long awaited finale between the baddest men on the planet, we also have the pleasure of potentially witnessing new prospects emerge, current prospects solidifying their spots, along with veterans of the game proving that they still belong. Much rides on the results of UFC 252, as many new opportunities for multiple divisions can arise. Every single competitor on this card is fighting with a chip on their shoulder. There is only one goal in mind for the new, the current, and the old; prove to everyone, including yourself, that you are the best fighter in the world. Here are my best bets for UFC 252, all odds from FanDuel Sports Book.
Best Bets for UFC 252
Sean O’Malley: (-300) – Marlon “Chito” Vera (+245)
While still being considered a “prospect”, Sean O’Malley has made it clear that he belongs with the elite of the Bantamweight division. His staggering 12-0 professional record is no accident, with 9 of those wins ending via finish, having 8 of those finishes come in the first round. After walking away from his most recent scrap about 2 minutes after it started, nearly unscathed, Sean now faces his toughest test to date in Marlon “Chito” Vera. Chito has a very solid MMA base all around, and is by no means an easy fight. However, with O’Malley’s skillset on the feet, along with his reach and range, and with Chito coming off of a 3 round war with Song Ya Dong, I believe Sean should be able to implement his game plan of keeping the distance and catch his opponent as he presses forward.
My Pick: Sean O’Malley (-300)
Daniel Cormier: (-116) | Stipe Miocic (-102)
Now that DC has made it clear that this will be his final competition in combat sports, he is fighting with the belief that winning this fight will establish his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time. I believe DC approaches this fight with his absolute best, using his wrestling background to secure him a decisive victory, ultimately riding off into the sunset as the Heavyweight Champion of the world.
My Pick: Daniel Cormier (-116)
Herbert Burns: (-310) | Daniel Pineda (+250)
With his brother now the number 1 contender at the Welterweight division, Herbert Burns has never looked more eager to reach the same status of his own division. Coming off of a 5 fight win streak, 4 of which ending in the first round, Herbert is one of the most promising bets on the entire card. I expect him to come forward and pressure immediately, forcing the fight to the ground and securing a submission.
My Pick: Herbert Burns (-310)
Junior Dos Santos: (+134)
Once the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the world, Junior “JDS” Dos Santos finds himself in a bit of a bind. For the first time in his career, he is returning to The Octagon after two back to back losses. While he is getting up there in age, he has certainly proved on multiple occasions that he has the skills to put anyone to sleep. If you take into consideration the experience JDS has gained over his 28 professional MMA bouts, in comparison to his opponents 11 fights total, the odds of Junior getting the job done are higher than what the lines are presenting. If you are going to bet on an underdog for this card, bet on Junior.
My Pick: Junior Dos Santos (+134)
