Australian Rules Football: ZakPRB AFL Check Marks 6.12
Welcome to ZakPRB AFL Check Marks 6.12. I have loved this sport since I first saw the Grand final while I was traveling on a bus tour throughout Europe with a clan of Australians. With the holdout in North America, I couldn’t find a better time to deeper look in into the world of footy! If you are wondering how this game is played, I have written a North American Guide to AFL that can be found here. Let’s drop the ball on today’s action. All lines are from Draftkings Sportsbook.
Welcome back AFL! We will be taking a bit of a different look at this column as we will be adding some players for DFS interest as it is now playable on Draftkings! Fantastic news! Let’s take a look at the Thursday Slate.
Check marks and exes: 0-2.
From last year’s top scoring team and a fast pace team, I did not see a low scoring defensive battle. The draw was a result that doesn’t happen often in the AFL. On to today’s action
Geelong Cats (-177) vs Hawthorne Hawks (+140) O/U 137.5 (-112)
In their last meeting, Hawthorn defeated Geelong 88-66. In their first matches of the season, the Hawks came away with a home win (90-62) over the Brisbane Lions. The cat’s suffered an away defeat (105-73) to the GSW Giants. The injury to Hawthorn midfield Jaeger O’Meara looks to be a concern for the Hawks. To add to that, Hawthorn has not won at Geelong since 2006. Geelong is claiming that they are in much better shape and look faster than round one.
I will be taking the chalk on the money line. Geelong Cats (-177) DraftKings
Injuries and outs:
Geelong: Darcy Fort, Jordan Clark, Zach Guthrie
Hawthorn: Jaeger O’Meara
Draftkings DFS notes:
As this is brand new to North America there isn’t much information on players. However we do have a points system and player layout.
How does AFL scoring work?
Lineups will consist of 9 players scoring points based on the below:
Players | Scoring |
Forwards 2 | Goal +6 Pts |
Midfielders 4 | Tackle +4 Pts |
Defenders 2 | Kick +3 Pts |
Ruck 1 | Mark +3 Pts |
Handball +2 Pts | |
Hit Out +1 Pts | |
Behind +1 Pts | |
Free Kick For +1 Pts | |
Free Kick Against -3 Pts |
Now that we know the point structure, let’s look at some of the DFS plays that will hopefully give us an edge. Just to note, there is only 4 players on the bench so even though the lock is in the middle of the night, you should have a pretty good chance that the normal starters will start.
