Alabama’s Senate Tourism Committee has revised the current gambling bill by removing legalized sports betting and casino gaming, leaving only a lottery. If legalized, this lottery would allow gambling in bingo halls and racetracks.

The Alabama House approved a new online gambling package just a day after the House Economic Development and Tourism Committee gave its approval. The package now moves to the Senate for further approval.

The House Economic Development and Tourism Committee in Alabama advanced amended versions of HB 151 and HB 152 to the House for further approval. These amendments allow the Poarch Band of Creek Indians to operate casinos outside of tribal lands, which is a first in the casino and sports betting industries.

State Representatives Chris Blackshear and Andy Whitt introduced House Bill 152, which proposes legalized sports betting, a lottery, and casino gaming at state casinos. Governor Kay Ivey has expressed her support for legalizing a lottery and online casino gaming. The proposed tax rate in the bill is set at 24%.
