Al’s Deep Dive for UFC 293

ADESANYA V STRICKLAND

After a trip across Europe we are travelling to the land down under for today’s much anticipated UFC 293. Today’s fights will kick off at 6:30 PM ET!! Many of today’s competitors are stand out talents from Adesanya’s City Kickboxing. Many of these fights have a lot of potential, and I cannot wait for this banger of a card! Read more below to find out my takes on tonight’s matchups! Tonight, there will be 12 fights ending with a title fight for the Middleweight Division. Now, with all that out of the way, let’s get right into the action!

SLATE STARTS AT 6:30 PM ET

Exposure to the main event is recommended. DFS production in these fights is usually high as they are five-round fights. I do not recommend branching away from the Main Event, as these fighters are both active and can rack up a lot of points. There will be three top plays followed by honorable mentions. Now let’s get ready to make some money!

Tonight I’m here to give you my top three favorite DFS and Sports betting picks for UFC 293 Adesanya vs Strickland.

MY UFC VALUE TARGET (CASH&GPP):

Shane Young vs Gabriel Miranda

Both of these fighters are coming off of losses and find themselves in a position where a win is critical for their hopes to stay in the UFC. Young has lost his last three fights and he’ll be fighting close to home as a teammate of Israel Adesanya at City Kickboxing. Miranda showed some good promise in the regional scene but ultimately came up short in his UFC debut against Benoit Saint-Denis. Miranda, coming out of MMA Masters, is a grappling specialist who holds a significant advantage on the ground against Shane Young. Out of Miranda’s 16 wins, 15 have come by way of Submission, RNC, Guillotine, Triangle, Arm Bar, he’s done it all. Young on the other hand has been taken down in each of his losses, except for the fight where he got KO’d in the first minute and a half with a crazy head kick (watch here). Ultimately, I see a much clearer path to victory for Miranda and on top of that, getting him priced in as an underdog is icing on the cake. He will be a lock for me on DFS and in Parlay’s I’d recommend taking him by Double Chance (Submission/Decision). (NOTE: Young missed weight by 3.75 lbs, keep this in mind before placing a bet on Miranda, the bad weight cut will favour Miranda but being the heavier fighter will give Young an advantage when it comes to stuffing takedowns.)

MY UFC DFS PICK: Gabriel Miranda SECOND-ROUND SUBMISSION (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION).

MY UFC LOCKED-IN TARGET (CASH):

Jamie Mullarkey vs. John Makdessi

Here we have a fight that on paper seems like it’s closer than it actually will be. Both fighters are similarly ranked, have similar striking and grappling stats as well as a similar record, however tactically Mullarkey is head and shoulders above Makdessi. Mullarkey’s has excellent cage control, quick hands and continuously changes up his striking patterns and footwork that confuses his opponents and makes them vulnerable. Both of these fighters have been in the UFC for a while and have had good matchups and good wins, however as Makdessi has gotten older (he’s 38 now, compared to Mullarkey 29) his performances have gone down in quality with a Split decision win over Ignacio Bahamondes and a loss at the hands of Fransisco Trinaldo. Mullarkey will also be fighting in front of the hometown fans in New South Wales AND has a significant height (2 inch advantage) and reach (6 inch advantage) advantage, which I think will tell the tale of this fight. Strong disciplined striking, at distance with a consistence pace and constant movement. I don’t think Makdessi will be able to keep up and I see this fight either ending with a late knockout or a decision win for Mullarkey.

MY UFC DFS PICK: Jamie Mullarkey THIRD-ROUND KO (possible UNANIMOUS DECISION).

MY UFC TOP SCORING TARGET (GPP):

Manel Kape vs. Felipe dos Santos

This fight is an example of the UFC putting together an absolute mis-match in a time crunch. Initially, Kape was scheduled to fight against Adesanya’s teammate Kai Kara-France, and Kara-France pulled out of the fight citing a concussion, this caused an uproar at the Press Conference with Kara France in the crowd (watch here). This led the UFC to match Kape up with dos Santos who was set to make a Contender Series appearance and now find himself making his UFC debut against the #7 ranked flyweight fighter in the UFC. It will be tough for dos Santos to do anything considering how far behind his skill set is to Kape’s. Kape himself is enjoying a three fight winning streak against some of the top fighters in the division and he already has a decent performance against the current champ along with and appearance as an alternate fighter for the first title fight between Figueredo and Moreno.

MY UFC DFS PICK: Manel Kape FIRST-ROUND KO (possible SECOND-ROUND KO)

UFC HONORABLE MENTIONS:

(Not in order)

Israel Adesanya (5 ROUNDER) (I think Israel will win but a -600 favorite seems a little off to me, the odds should be a little closer)

Alex Volkov (Tuivasa is the underdog for a reason but Volkov has been upset and knocked out before, it could happen again with Tuivasa in front of the hometown crowd)

Justin Tafa

Tyson Pedro

Jack Jenkins

Carlos Ulberg

Nasrat Haqparast

Charlie Radtke

Kevin Jousset
