MLB DFS Aces & Stacks (July 31)

Welcome to Monday’s edition of Aces and Bases, where I’ll go through the top MLB DFS Aces and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

Happy Monday Funday!  It’s Monday and that normally means a smaller slate of MLB DFS for us.  Today is no different as we have just 9 games to navigate through.  As we’re getting closer and closer to the trade deadline, we’ll want to keep an eye on some of these lineups.  They could be ever changing and be very different than what you are used to.  Today and tomorrow will be very fluid.  Pay attention prior to lock on all players.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

MLB DFS Aces – Main

Tyler Glasnow vs. New York Yankees

Even with the return of Aaron Judge, this Yankees lineup just isn’t very good.  Guys like Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and DJ LeMahieu have all started to show aging.  They have Billy McKinney in their lineup and for some reason, continue to roll out Anthony Volpe on a daily basis even though she has shown to be overmatched at the Major League level.  Tonight, the Yankees are going to have an extremely tough task as they’ll face the Rays ace of staff, Tyler Glasnow.

Glasnow has been superb over the last month.  He owns a 34% K rate to go with a 2.3 ERA.  He’s been dominant in his return from TJ surgery and has been over 20 DK points in 6 consecutive outings.  He’ll be able to have his way with a bad Yankees team tonight.  Glasnow is my SP1 and it’s not even close.

Corbin Burnes vs. Washington Nationals

As it stands right now, my plan for tonight is to go double aces with 2 legitimate aces.  Corbin Burnes gets a great matchup tonight vs. a bad Washington Nationals team.  That Nationals scored 15 runs over 4-game series against the Mets.  11 of them were scored in the game started by Cookie Carrasco.  In the other 3 games, their bats were stymied and they’ll be quieted again tonight vs. Corbin Burnes.

My only concern here though is that the Nationals do not strike out a ton.  Against righties this season, they’ve only struck out 19% of the time.  That said, Burnes has elite strike-out stuff and if anyone can squeeze some extra K’s out of a lineup it’s Burnes.  A price tag of $10.2k for him tonight is very reasonable and one I have absolutely no problem paying.

The only other arm I have any interest in tonight is Nick Pivetta vs. Seattle.  Seattle continues to strike out a healthy amount and that gives someone like Pivetta some extra upside.

MLB DFS Stacks – Main

Houston Astros vs. Noah Syndergaard

Noah Syndergaard’s tenure in LA was so bad that they essentially faked a blister to get him on the IL and out of the rotation.  They then shipped him and his “blister” to the great city of Cleveland in a swap of former Mets’ teammates.  Things in LA could not have gone any worse for the former ace-level pitcher.  His ERA was a staggering 7.16, his HR/9 were nearly 2, and his K/9 were just 6.18.

That 6.18 is more than 4 strikeouts per 9 less than what he was getting prior to his TJ surgery.  Some pitchers (Tyler Glasnow for example) come back just fine from TJ surgery.  Then you have pitchers like Syndergaard who don’t and then can’t adapt to being a different pitcher.  Syndergaard is essentially a lister at this point.  We stack whenever we can against him.

My Astros stack will 99% of the time start with Yordan Alvarez and tonight will be no different.  Alvarez is one of my favorite bats in all of baseball and he gets just a glorious matchup tonight.  Against righties this season he’s sporting a .423 wOBA and a .312.  There are few bats in the game that possess the raw power and discipline that Alvarez has.

Next up will be Kyle Tucker, the most underrated player in the game according to Ben Verlander.  I’ll be honest, I agree with him.  Tucker is a solid bat in this lineup that often gets overshadowed by his teammates, at least in name recognition.  These 2 lefties pack a ton of punch in this lineup.  I’ll also look to include guys like Altuve, Bregman, and Pena

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Domingo German

There are few pitchers in the history of the game to throw a perfect game.  Domingo German may go down as one of the worst pitchers in history to accomplish the feat.  I’m not trying to be mean about it, I’m just stating a fact.  If we look at what German has done over the last month, it’s been bad.  He has a 5.64 ERA and has been giving up a ton of fly balls and homers.

He’s allowed 5 homers in just 22 innings work.  Tonight he’ll have to take all of those fly balls allowed and face off against one of the best lineups in the entire game, the Tampa Bay Rays.  While the Rays are currently in second place, they still have one of the best records in the game and are in the top 5 in runs scored.

When I play the Rays against a weak righty, I prioritize getting in my stacks guys like Luke Raley, Brandon Lowe, and Isaac Paredes.  These 3 guys have been by far the best hitters against righties on the team.  Both Raley and Paredes have wOBA’s of .392 vs. them and ISO’s of at least .270.  Just extremely solid numbers for the 2 guys.

I also love Randy Arozarena here.  On the year, Aroz has a .358 wOBA vs. righties and has averaged nearly 9 fantasy points vs. them.  After these 4 guys, I’ll look to fill in where I can with guys like Yandy Diaz, Wander Franco, and Jose Siri.  This lineup has a ton of potential tonight.

I didn’t name them, but Atlanta is 100% in play just like they are every night.  They should put up a monster-crooked number vs. Griffin Canning.

MLB DFS Summary

This is a hitting-heavy slate with many teams in solid spots.  Even with that, I still plan on going with double aces tonight as the 2 aces I mentioned are in just great spots.
