TORONTO vs. MONTREAL – This could be the ideal game stack if you choose to go in this direction. Toronto had a hard-fought win last night in Columbus and will be starting their backup Michael Hutchinson. This game will be in Toronto. However, matchups between these two original six teams tend to be high scoring, such as in their last game where together they put up 11 goals. Targets: Matthews-Rielly (Stack), Suzuki-Domi (Stack)
MINNESOTA vs. COLORADO – Not great teams, but Colorado has a clear edge in this one. There are better options on the slate since Colorado’s top line is uber-expensive and neither team is known for their scoring. Overall I recommend a FADE here. Radar: Makar, Kadri, Zuccarello, Dumba
NEW JERSEY vs. BUFFALO – New Jersey played last night and their starter Schneider went down midway through the game with an injury. With Mackenzie Blackwood starting in tonight’s matchup against Buffalo, there are definitely viable targets. Targets: Olofsson-Eichel-Dahlin
NEW YORK RANGERS vs. OTTAWA – Ottawa is one of the worst teams in the league and coughs up a lot of goals because of it. As mentioned in an earlier article, their starter Craig Anderson had one of the worst GAA’s last season at 3.51. He did not improve that record in the season opener, giving up five goals to Toronto in the 5-3 loss. Like Toronto, the Rangers have many offensive weapons that will be able to exploit Ottawa’s shaky defence. Targets: New York Rangers 1, Kakko, Georgiev, Trouba, B. Tkachuk-Brown (Stack)
TAMPA BAY vs. FLORIDA – Tampa’s team is almost unfair, which is hard since Florida isn’t a bad squad, they’ve just been matched up with Tampa in their first to games, making it harder to target them, especially in large slates. It’s hard to do but there are better plays tonight, so I will FADE here. Radar: Johnson-Kucherov-Cernak, Sergachev, Dadonov
COLUMBUS vs. PITTSBURGH – Columbus lost to Toronto last night and are heading into enemy territory tonight in PPG Paints Arena. I love Pittsburgh with rest at home here and they generate scoring mainly from their top line. Targets: Pittsburgh Penguins 1, Letang, Schultz, Pettersson, Murray
CAROLINA vs. WASHINGTON – Washington played last night but will have their starter in goal tonight. These two teams are evenly matched and I don’t see either scoring a huge amount of goals in this one, as both teams are defensively strong. I’d FADE this one. Radar: Carolina Hurricanes 1, Foegele, Edmundson, Wilson-Ovechkin
DALLAS vs. ST. LOUIS – Again, we have two very evenly matched teams here, both have very strong backlines and stellar goaltending. I’d give St. Louis an edge since I believe they are slightly better and at home, but this matchup is just too volatile for me tonight, FADE. Radar: St. Louis 1, Faulk, Hintz, Pavelski
DETROIT vs. NASHVILLE – Nashville is a clear favorite here at home and Detroit has weak defensive and a sieve for a goalie. Jimmy Howard had a GAA of 3.07 last season, and I could fully see him allowing three here tonight. Not my favorite play because of the high pricing but definitely worth a look. Targets: Ellis, Nashville Predators 1, Ekholm, Rinne, Josi
BOSTON vs. ARIZONA – Again both teams in this matchup have defensive depth but Boston is clearly superio. Boston’s top line has an astronomical price tag and I think there are better plays that are more salary efficient, Boston is by no means a bad play but I would look elsewhere tonight, FADE. Radar: Boston Bruins 1, Heinen-Coyle, Kuraly
VANCOUVER vs. CALGARY – Vancouver has a very young and inexperienced team along with some questionable goaltending while Calgary won the Western Conference last year and has major depth with two lines of pure pain. I would be comfortable having a bit of exposure here. Targets: Calgary Flames 1, 2, Vancouver Canucks 1, Hughes-Miller, Andersson
LOS ANGELES vs. EDMONTON – Gotta like Edmonton’s chances in this matchup, since the Kings were hot garbage last season, they finished second last, only to be bested by the dumpster fire that was the Ottawa Senators. Edmonton is not great either but has an excellent chance of picking up their second win to start the season. Targets: McDavid-Drasaitl-Persson
SAN JOSE vs. ANAHEIM – San Jose got slapped at home, 5-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights last night and now head into Anaheim with an 0-2 record on the season. On the other side of the rink, Anaheim had a strong 2-1 win to start the season and will look to exploit a tired San Jose tonight at the Honda Center. Not to mention San Jose will start Aaron Dell in goal. Last season Dell was one of the worst goalies in the NHL, having a worse save percentage than Craig Anderson. Anaheim has some cheap lines and is in a prime position to break tonight’s slate. Targets: Gibson, Anaheim Ducks 2-Guhle
