Just becausewe are dealing with a smaller 10 game slate today does not mean there aren’tplenty of great spots to stack. Let’s jump right in with the top teams for May9th:
Early Slate
Chicago Cubs
The Marlins’ Trevor Richards has been respectable this season, with a 4.10 ERA. But that should not stop you from loading up on Cubs on Thursday. Richards’ numbers suggest he has gotten somewhat lucky in 2019. He has a 5.30 SIERA and a 5.79 xFIP, so some regression is coming his way. With the wind expected to be blowing out in this one, Richards’ luck should run out. His 50% flyball rate and 40% hard contact rate seems like a bad match for the Chicago wind.
You will want to build your stack around the Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo (FanDuel: $4,200, DraftKings: $5,400). Richards has a 7.05 xFIP and a -5.7% K-BB% against left-handed batters in 2019. Rizzo owns a .391 OBP and a .337 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.
After Rizzo, you will want to look at the Cubs’ killer B’s to round out your Chicago stack. Both Kris Bryant and Javy Baez have been very successful against flyball pitchers this season, as they each have OPS’ greater than 1.165 against them. With Richards also allowing a 50% hard contact rate to righties, finish off your stack with Willson Contreras. The Cubs’ catcher is just crushing right-handed pitching with a .391 wOBA and 1.216 OPS.
Colorado Rockies
Every time the Giants send Derek Holland out to the mound, the DFS community should be looking to stack against him. The southpaw is basically everything you should look for when searching for a pitcher to target. Holland is a flyball pitcher with a 44.4% flyball rate. He is also getting hit hard, with a 41.6% hard contact rate. The flyballs and hard contact have led to home runs, as the San Francisco starter is allowing 1.97 HR/9.
And now weget him in Coors Field, so of course, we want to get some Rockies in our DFSlineups for Wednesday. Holland has struggled in his time in the thin Coloradoair. In his career he is allowing a .385/.442/.667 slash line at Coors.
The Rockies’stack needs to start with Nolan Arenado. He is expensive at $5,800 onDraftKings and $4,800 on FanDuel but he’s worth every bit of the price. Thethird baseman has a .270 ISO versus left-handed-handed pitching in 2019. Itcertainly doesn’t hurt Arenado’s chances that Holland is also allowing 2.42HR/9 to righty bats in 2019. The Colorado slugger also has a pretty goodhistory against Holland. Arenado has four hits, two of which were home runs, in10 at-bats as well as five walks against Holland in his career.
AfterArenado, your next best Rockies’ bat is Trevor Story. Not only does Story crushlefties with a .234 ISO, he also enjoys facing flyball pitchers. He has a.364/.453/.750 slash line against such pitchers in 2019. Story is also 6-for-13in his career versus Holland.
But waitthere is more. Raimel Tapia, David Dahl, Charlie Blackmon and Daniel Murphy allhave .200+ ISOs against left-handed pitching this season. So, look to cram inas many Rockies’ bats in your DFS lineup as you possible can.
Seattle Mariners
By all accounts, the Yankees’ J.A. Happ has struggled in 2019. The southpaw has a 4.93 ERA as well as a 5.04 xFIP. Mix in his 42.3% hard contact rate and he is a guy you will want to try to pick on, especially with right-handed bats. Against righties Happ has allowed a .347 wOBA and 2.45 HR/9.
As you build your Seattle stack, you are looking at four main cogs: Tim Beckham, Mitch Haniger, Domingo Santana and Edwin Encarnacion. All four of these players have at least a .250 ISO versus lefties this season and are all less than $4,000 on FanDuel.
Main Slate
Atlanta Braves
The Diamondbacks’ Luke Weaver has performed really well so far this season. But I am willing to go against him here. Despite the decent numbers this year, Weaver is allowing a 45.7% hard contact rate. The Braves’ core four are going to be in play here. Freddie Freeman, Ozzie Albies, Josh Donaldson and Ronald Acuna Jr. should be your targets if you are willing to bet that Weaver is going to start to see his hard contact allowed begin to hurt his numbers.
Houston Astros
The Rangers’ Mike Minor enters play on Thursday with a 2.40 ERA, so at first glance he may not be a pitcher you would like to stack against. But a deeper dive into his numbers shows Minor is guy you can attack. The Texas starter has a 4.07 xFIP and a 41% flyball rate.
In additionto Minor’s peripherals, Houston rakes against left-handed pitching. As a teamthey have a .217 ISO, .365 wOBA and a 135 wRC+ against lefties in 2019.
Your Houston stack should begin at the top of the order. George Springer (.357 ISO vs L) and Jose Altuve (.467 ISO vs. L) should be locks for the Astros’ build. But you can also consider Josh Reddick, Yui Gurriel, Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa, as they all have .200+ ISOs against lefties in 2019.
