This article discusses a core for DFS players to build around for today’s FanDuel NBA slate. While there are many different sports and various contests pertaining to DFS along with their respective strategies, we focus on the main approaches to build both reliable cash and GPP lineups for a successful NBA night including pace, the projected over/under, one on one matchups, and a team’s defensive rating. Make sure to stay active when building NBA lineups – if you cannot be in front of a computer, tablet, or on your phone an hour before lock do not throw your money away! NBA DFS lineups can change at the blink of an eye and are the most variable compared to any other sport in DFS; players get injured, some sit for load management, and others find themselves on the DNP list for other reasons; any of which can sway your lineup and where to find value. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Point Guard – Ricky Rubio, Phoenix Suns ($8,000)
I love Ricky Rubio in this spot going up against Ja Morant all night. Both teams are in the upper echelon of the NBA in pace (Suns rank 8th, Grizzlies rank 7th) and there should be plenty of opportunities for Rubio to have one of his ceiling games. Although the rookie is no slouch, Morant turns the ball over at one of the highest rates in the league at 3.3 per game while Rubio has been surprisingly feisty on the defensive end. With 3 steals the last time these two teams faced one another, look for Rubio to be a double-double lock with tremendous upside in steals.
Shooting Guard – Zach Lavine, Chicago Bulls ($8,200)
Simply put, Zach Lavine has a tremendous matchup tonight versus the high-flying Hawks. Matching up as the fifth-worst NBA team versus shooting guards, the Hawks allow an average line of 24.2/6.77/4.46/1.47/1 to two-guards. Playing on the flipside of a back-to-back, look for the Hawks to get off to a slow start and for the Bulls to take advantage of their respective guard play. Chicago comes in favored by 5 points in a game with a 222 over/under.
Small Forward – Taurean Prince, Brooklyn Nets ($6,300)
There are some players we like to lock into our lineups and others we like to attack. PJ Washington of the Charlotte Hornets is one of those guys that I love to attack on a nightly basis. Listed as a small forward on FanDuel but playing as a Power Forward for a balanced Nets NBA squad, Taurean Prince has a glorious matchup versus one of the league’s worst defenders tonight. Averaging 31 minutes and 34.7 FanDuel points over his last four, make Taurean Prince a priority in your lineups tonight.
Power Forward – Domantas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers ($9,000)
Coming off an absolute monster of a game versus the Clippers, Domantas Sabonis finds himself in another smash spot versus a depleted Boston Celtics squad. Although both of these teams rank near the bottom of the league in pace, the matchup Sabonis has is too hard to overlook. Whether it be Jayson Tatum, Daniel Theis, or Enes Kanter defending him, Sabonis will destroy anyone in his path tonight and will be a priority for my lineups.
Center – Mitchell Robinson, New York Knicks ($7,300)
Finally. David Fizdale is gone, and the Knicks organization finally realizes who their best NBA player is (no disrespect to my fellow Canadian RJ Barrett or Julius Randle). Robinson has recently seen an uptick in minutes and is averaging 36.04 FanDuel points over 25.67 minutes played in his last 3 games – that’s 1.4 FanDuel points per minute and more than the likes of Andre Drummond, Paul George, Kyrie Irving, and Kawhi Leonard this season! Though Draymond Green is a great defender, he is seeing most of his minutes running point if D’Angelo Russell is out or at the small forward position, leaving the likes of Willie Cauley-Stein and Omari Spellman to guard Robinson. Looking for a great game from the young Knick and with a good defensive outing, he may just break the slate.
Games to Target
