Welcome to Zak’s Puck Picks!! I started in Cash with Flash Handicapping Challenge and have been heating up. I am super excited to keep the momentum going and win some serious money with all of you!
A big part of my life is my 3 kids. Each one of them holds a different attribute that I would personally use to aid me in deciding what picks to make. My twins Pork and Ribs and their little brother Bean (not their real names but very appropriate nicknames).
Pork is a doer. He is one to dive into a situation and figure it out as it unfolds, usually with great success. In terms of the pick, it will be a gut feeling pick and be backed with some stats to explain the feeling. Ribs, he likes to observe the situation, take in all the information, and then make an educated decision on what his next step will be. His pick will be focused around teams that are on hot streaks, either against a team in a matchup or on a winning streak. Now Bean may sound cute and innocent, but he is a wild man. Not a lot of thought goes into actions and if there is some thought, its geared towards “how can I push Dad’s buttons”. His pick will be a little more on the risky side. There will be reasons why I think we should go this way.
As cook by trade and hockey as a passion since I was 3 years old, let’s get some puck picks in the oven and make some dough shall we?
All odds are referenced from vegasinsider.com. I will play ALL of the picks I write about in these articles
Puck Record. The month of January #30dayhandicappingchalenge (31-29) article picks (3-5) (3-1 Tuesday 0-4 Wednesday)
Philly played the role of spoiler against the red hot Blues. Lindgren and the Habs made Chicago look like a playoff team! On that note keep on discord for potential starting goalie changes as Price had started every back to back this season.
Pork’s Puck Pick- Las Vegas -167
A coaching change like the one that just occurred to the Golden Knights, seems to light a spark in a team. They are facing a dreadful Ottawa team sitting second from the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The depth alone should propel Vegas to a victory for new coach Pete DeBoer. Newsday sports shows that Vegas has won 4 of their 5 meetings and have not lost to Ottawa since March 2nd, 2018
Dallas -210
After a hot start, Buffalo has come back down to earth. My prediction that Dallas was going to
be the Blues of this season looks promising in terms of their season turned around. At 1st in the league in goals-against doth a staggering low 2.326, I see this being a low scoring affair with the stars shining to victory.
Rib’s Puck Pick- Tampa Bay -167
Tampa has been one of the hottest teams in the league with outstanding goaltending. Vasilevskiy has won 9 straight starts. Minnesota has lost 4 of their last 5 games. I see this trend continuing tonight, even though Minnesota has won the last 4 vs the Lightning.
Colorado -195
The home team in this series has won the last 4 straight in this series, which is the position the Avalanche find themselves in this evening. Aaron Dell has played a lot better in net and has the Sharks looking a lot more promising. However, injuries are taking a toll on the Sharks whereas Colorado is getting healthier. Nathan McKinnon has been on a tear as of late and I see him being a difference-maker in this one (will be a play for me on Monkey Knife Fight at minimum) I think this game stays close but Colorado puts more pucks in.
Bean’s Puck Pick-
Florida PUCK LINE-1.5
After just trouncing the Maple Leafs 8-4, the Cats seem to be firing in all cylinders. Facing a Kings team with a road record of 7-15-4, this should definitely be a W for the Panthers at home. With a Newsday prediction of puck stopper and former Calgary Hitmen Chris Driedger starting taking his 5-2-0 and 2.40 GAA into action. I see him being able to keep enough pucks out to give the Panthers a commanding win. My only hesitation is if Jack Campbell starts. This puck stopper seems to be a matchup killer. Stay tuned on Twitter and Discord for final thoughts.
Pittsburgh +120
The Penguins are rolling and slowly getting healthier. Kid Crosby looked like he didn’t miss a beat. Jarry is looking like an elite goaltender with the ability to steal a game. Boston has been teams from the Metropolitan division. I see the Penguins as the stronger team coming in.
Let’s shake off those losses yesterday and cash in some puck money today!
