Insight Sheet: The Honda Classic

The Insight Sheet gets you ready before lock of the Honda Classic. Inside is my personal player selection. Make sure to be on Discord tonight to get final questions asked and for help with lineup building. As always, the sheet uses DraftKings pricing but the model is set up for overall play. Players can be used on all sites.

Players priced $10,000 and higher

Gary Woodland $10,300 (M4) – Woodland is coming off the WGC Mexico with a T12 and gaining almost nine strokes on the field. He’s made the cut the last four years at the Honda Classic. He should be the highest owned of the top four golfers.

Brooks Koepka $11,200 (M15) – Going from the most owned to the least, Koepka is looking at sub 15% ownership. I know he has not looked the greatest but if his knee truly is healthy, he could win with a sizable lead.

Players priced between $9,900 and $9,000

Erik Van Rooyen $9,000 (M2) – EVR got a huge price boost from DK and everyone is running for the hills. Rooyen is coming off a fantastic showing (who I wrote up last week) and now gets to play in a weaker field. He might once again come in at sub 10% ownership.

Louis Oosthuizen $9,700 (M27) – Oosthuizen did not finish well last week as he left with a T51. The first two days though he was three-under and one of the top players after Thursday. Oos has been on a tear on the Euro Tour and I’m not gonna let a bad weekend get me off of him for the Honda Classic.

Sungjae Im $9,300 (M30) – Honestly, Im is not my favorite play this week, mainly due to ownership. I thought he might be a nice pivot off of Horschel but Im’s ownership projection numbers are not that far behind Billy’s. Im can get hot and score in bunches though, so while not my favorite he’s been known to be more consistent.

Players priced between $8,900 and $8,000

JT Poston $8,600 (M14) – Poston is the 38th ranked player in the world according to DataGolf. He’s coming off two made cuts and has two made cuts at the Honda Classic. I believe he’s the perfect pivot off of them twice as owned Byeong An.

Daniel Berger $8,900 (M35) – This spot came down between Berger and An. Berger has been playing just better golf overall with two top 10s.. While he may not have the ceiling of An (not far behind) I think he presents a much higher floor.

Players priced between $7,900 and $7,300

Russell Knox $7,600 (M1) – Knox is coming off of two missed cuts and should keep his ownership down. Despite the two MC, he’s still 8th in the field in Strokes Gained Total over the same span. The Honda Classic should fit Knox’s game better.

Keith Mitchell $7,300 (M3) – Everyone knows that Mitchell feels more comfortable on Bermuda, though his edge on the surface isn’t really there. His game just sets up well here as evident with his victory last year.

Wyndham Clark $7,600 (M11) – Coming off three made cuts and a T7 in the bad from last year, he might be my favorite tourney play. Clark is already considered to be a good putter but actually gets better on Bermuda.

Harry Higgs $7,300 (M21) – In his last eight starts, Higgs only has one missed cut. He leads the field this week in recent Strokes Gained Total. Higgs has never played here before but as history has shown us, that’s not a necessity.

Maverick McNealy $7,500 (M37) – Number two in SG: Total in the field is McNealy. With three top ’30s in his last three tournaments, including a 15th and T5 finish, McNealy is one of the hottest golfers right now.

Players priced between $7,200 and $7,000

Talor Gooch $7,200 (M9) – Gooch has a T20 at the Honda Classic last year along with TEN consecutive made cuts. Gooch is really good with his irons and while he doesn’t have the upside as some of the other golfers he provides a good floor.

Sam Burns $7,100 (M16) – Coming off a T23 last week, Burns heads into the week with four weeks gaining strokes T2G. He’s made the cut his only two tries here and has an eight-place finish in 2018.

Matthew NeSmith $7,200 (M17) – NeSmith a complete game and is just starting to find his own. Coming off two top 15’s, he’s already popped into the top 100 golfers according to DataGolf. It does seem NeSmith will have higher ownership than expected as everyone seems to have him as their sleeper this week.

Doc Redman $7,000 (M23) – Redman has eighteen weeks in a row gaining strokes T2G. 18! When he finds his putter, it is when the world gets set on fire. Taking a chance he can find the flat stick this week.

Players priced $6,900 and below

Joseph Bramlett $6,700 (M12) – Bramlett has made four cuts in a row and is coming off a T9 at the Puerto Rico Open. Salary saver with a touch of upside.

Stewart Cink $6,700 (M25) – Mainly a salary saver. It doesn’t have much upside like Bramlett but is expected to make the cut.
