Welcome to Zak’s Puck Picks!! I started in Cash with Flash Handicapping Challenge and have been heating up. I am super excited to keep the momentum going and win some serious money talking Puck Picks with all of you!
A big part of my life is my three kids. Each one of them holds a different attribute that I would personally use to aid me in deciding what picks to make. My twins Pork and Ribs and their little brother Bean (not their real names but very appropriate nicknames).
Pork is a doer. He is one to dive into a situation and figure itout as it unfolds, usually with great success. In terms of the puck pick, itwill be a gut feeling pick and be backed with some stats to explain the feeling.
Ribs, he likes to observe the situation, take in all theinformation, and then make an educated decision on what his next step will be.His puck pick will be focused around teams that are on hot streaks, eitheragainst a team in a matchup or on a winning streak.
Now Bean may sound cute and innocent, but he is a wild man. Not alot of thought goes into actions and if there is some thought, its gearedtowards “how can I push Dad’s buttons”. His puck pick will be a little more onthe risky side. There will be reasons why I think we should go this way.
As cook by trade and hockey as a passion since I was 3 years old, let’s get some puck picks in the oven and make some dough shall we?
All odds are referenced from vegasinsider.com. The source of information comes from Newsday.sports.gracenote.com unless otherwise specified. I will play ALL the picks mentioned in these articles.
Puck Record for February (64-52) 55.17% January (49-49) 50%
Puck Record March (1-5)
Puck Recap Sunday night (1-3) Monday Night (0-2)
An ugly start to March. That just means the come back will be that much sweeter. Edmonton’s finest (McDavid and Draisaitl) made the highly touted Nashville Defense look elementary and some late scratches and lackluster effort from Colorado had Detroit keep it within one. The third of March seems like a good day to wear the rally cap. On to today’s puck action.
Pork’s Puck Pick- St. Louis Blues-140
The St Louis Blues are on a Sven game win streak and are riding two smoking hot puck stoppers. During their seven-game win streak the puck has found the back of the opponent’s net twenty-six times. Where the Rangers have the slight edge in goals per game by a 0.126 margin it is the goals against that makes the difference with a 0.35 difference between the clubs. While I think this game remains close, the Blues are much stronger on the back end and will hold the Rangers to fewer goals.
Rib’s Puck Pick- New York Islanders-130
The Islanders have had a tough stretch of games against real good teams against Boston, St.Louis and the red hot Rangers. I think this is the game where the Islanders get off the slide. Montreal has lost seven of their last ten and are seventeenth in the league in goals-against per game. Montreal isn’t mathematically eliminated from the playoffs however the chances are really slim. The Islanders currently hold down the first wild card spot in the east in a tight race with Pittsburgh, Carolina, Columbus and the Rangers. The puck stopping tandem on the island holds the sixth-best stats in goals against with 2.7 per game. The Islanders have more to play for and are the more desperate team. I believe they will show this and take the home win tonight
Bean’s Puck Pick- Boston Bruins +123
This should be the game of the night. A battle between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay may have the Bruins number recently winning the last four games in a row, however, they will be without their captain Steven Stamkos, who is out with an abdominal injury. They also have just one win in their last five games, three of which have been in Tampa Bay. Boston has been rolling and has seven wins in their last ten games with three of those seven wins coming on the road. Both puck stoppers have phenomenal numbers with Boston’s Tuukka Rask sitting at a 2.16 goals-against average and Andrei Vasilevskiy a slightly higher 2.62 GAA. This game should remain tight and low scoring, however, Boston has been better as of late and has all their key players ready to go for this one. Take Boston to leave Tampa Bay with a money line win.
Houston’s Puck Pick- Toronto Maple Leafs-143
This is the tale of two teams that can not keep the puck out of their net. The San Jose Sharks and the Toronto Maple Leafs have some serious injuries on their back end and goaltenders that are struggling with these injuries. It has already been confirmed by The Goalie Project on Twitter that Jack Campbell will get the start tonight. I think this will be a high scoring contest and when it comes to putting the puck in the net, the Leafs have much better numbers. Toronto has scored twenty goals in their last five games where the Sharks have twelve. The Maple Leafs are six and one in their last seven Tuesday games where the Sharks are one and eight in their last nine games played on Tuesday insert eye roll here. I like the over in this game as well as long as it is set under seven, however, am only focused on the Leafs money line with this pick. I fancy the Leafs to leave the Shark Tank with two points and a full stat sheet.
Zak’s Puck Pick- Ottawa Senators +260
Play this one light and with caution, however, the Penguins have been absolutely awful and are coming off of six straight losses to teams like LA, San Jose, Anaheim, and Buffalo. These teams all have similar points to Ottawa. It sounds like Ottawa might have the services of Anthony Duclair back in their lineup for this contest as well. Again this pick is a risk but I think it is worth the value at +260 for as bad as the Penguins have been as of late.
There may be a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who the puck stopper is. Stay tuned to the #nhl and # sports betting tabs on Discord, as well as Twitter for any changes or more potential matchups as more news unfolds!

NHL Update
The NHL Playoff picture is beginning to take shape. With about 70% of the season behind us here are your division leaders and their respective Stanley Cup Odds. The Capitals have maintained their points lead over the surging Penguins, while the Lightning has won 8 in a row in an attempt to catch the Bruins. All 4 teams see their odds stay about the same to win the Stanley Cup, while the entire Pacific Division attempts to sort out who will represent them in the playoffs and who will settle for a Wildcard spot.
