This article focuses on NHL DFS Picks for 3/9 on DraftKings and FanDuel. Both sites have fairly different scoring formats, particularly with the recent changes on DraftKings. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. BE SURE to double-check both regular and power play lines at both morning skate and before lock as they can drastically change from the time of publication.

Favorite Line
Washington One – Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Tom Wilson
The Buffalo Sabres have been nothing short of a disaster, now having dropped six straight games. Perhaps head coach Ralph Krueger is still adapting to hockey from soccer after being chairman of the English Premier League’s Southampton Saints. Meanwhile, the Capitals have been largely mediocre, but they find themselves -165 home favorites, good for best on the slate. I’m definitely a fan of that third line for sneaky value and the second line isn’t bad either.
However, Alex Ovechkin is the priority here and should be the first man in for cash games. Beyond him, Tom Wilson would probably be my next skater in on FanDuel. On DraftKings, Evgeny Kuznetsov is a little more affordable. If you want to leave one-off, it would definitely be Kuznetsov as my late Grandmother is perhaps having a better season this year than he is. Either way, I think that the Capitals lay the smackdown here and there should be goals, so get a piece one way or the other.
Second Favorite Line
Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Vladislav Namestikov
We will be going back to well again tonight. Last night, all three skaters scored and had five combined assists as this line just continues to eat. If you can jam them in along with Alex Ovechkin, that probably makes the most sense in cash games. The Avs come in -143 favorites, the second biggest of the night behind the Capitals. The Kings have actually been hot as of late, winning five straight coming into this. With that said, I don’t mind if you decide to run a game stack or perhaps even target the opposite side of this game in a tournament. Instead of stud goaltender Pavel Francouz, it will likely be newly acquired Michael Hutchinson in net for Colorado, so I do think the Kings’ red hot top line makes a lot of sense for tournaments at low ownership. One bet I really like here is the over, as there is sure to be more goals than currently projected. Therefore, feel free to fire up the Avs top line with confidence.

Alex Ovechkin, Max Pacioretty, Leon Draisaitl – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet is now up to six straight hits and an overall record of 41/65. Unfortunately, you cannot use both Alex Ovechkin and Nathan MacKinnon tonight in the Star Shootout. I opted to go with the early side.
