NASCAR DFS Pit Stop: Truck Series Michigan 8/7/20

Welcome to the NASCAR DFS Pit Stop for Friday night’s Henry Ford Health System 200 at Michigan International Speedway. After a one-race weekend last week at New Hampshire, we are back with four races this weekend split between Michigan (Trucks/2 Cup races) and Road America (Xfinity)

Friday’s race is a short 100 lap race which means there are only 75 dominator points available. Over the last 2 years in this race we saw 4 drivers in 2019 and 5 in 2018 lead at least 10 laps. I want to focus on getting dominators into my lineups to pick up as many of the limited dominator points available in this race. At Michigan we will see drafting, similar that we see at Super-speedway’s (Daytona and Talladega).

NASCAR DFS: Dominators

There are two drivers that I believe will be highly owned, and if you play cash they should be locks for you. John Hunter Nemechek ($11,100) starts 34th and Parker Kligerman ($10,800) starts 35th. Both of these drivers have two races in the Truck Series this season, and both been successful, with Kligerman having more consistent success. Kligerman has finished top 20 in both of his races, and Nemechek has a 6th and a 25th place finish.

Brett Moffitt ($9,700)

Starting Position: 2nd

Brett Moffitt has run three races at Michigan and has two wins and a fourth-place finish. In his three races, Moffitt has only led 15 laps, so he is more of a GPP play, which is why he is on this list. There is risk with this play because he does start so high up in the field. I think Moffitt could push for the win here again and he will be in my core for tournaments.

Austin Hill ($10,100)

Starting Position: 5th

Austin Hill won this race last season and led 26 laps. At similar tracks this year Hill has an average finish of 7.9, while leading 175 laps with 7 top 10’s, 4 top 5’s and a win in 8 race. Hill is the championship favorite this season and will be one of the dominant drivers in this race Friday I believe.

NASCAR DFS: Mid Tier

Stewart Friesen ($9,100)

Starting Position: 21st

Friesen has the next best place differential play after Nemechek and Kligerman. In three races for Friesen here he has two top 10’s and his only race outside the top 10 was a 13th place finish in 2017. Friesen has an average finish of 9.7 in his 3 races at Michigan

Todd Gilliland ($8,900)

Starting Position: 19th

Gilliland has five top 10’s this season on similar tracks in 8 races, and one top 5 as well. With Gilliland starting 19th he has PD upside we like in the mid range but the price is a little high and he will be tough to fit in with the two the top dominators. You can make it work, but you will only have $6.4K for the last 3 spots. I would rather pay down to Moffitt or Hill with one of the top priced guys and Gilliland or Friesen.

Jeb Burton ($8,300)

Starting Position: 15th

Burton is an interesting GPP play and I really think he has top 10 potential. Burton is a Niece Motorsports truck so he will be in some of the top equipment in the series. In 2 races here at Michigan, Burton has two top 10 finishes as well as leading 41 laps. With no true dominators in this race, Burton could end up with a top 5 and some dominator points.

Other Options: Grant Enfinger ($7,900), Sheldon Creed ($8,500), Zane Smith ($8,400)

NASCAR DFS: Value Tier Rankings

There are two drivers in this range I like above all others, they are Tyler Hill ($4,900) and Austin Wayne Self ($6,000). They both are running hot right now with Hill having one finish lower than 25th this season, he starts 30th on Friday. Self comes into Friday nights race with 4 straight top 20 finishes and starts 27th.

  1. Tyler Hill ($4,900 – P30)
  2. Austin Wayne Self ($6,000 P27)
  3. Ty Majeski ($6,700 – P18)
  4. Jennifer Jo Cobb ($4,800 P33)
  5. Trey Hutchens ($5,900 P39)
  6. Tate Fogelman ($6,200 P25)
  7. Spencer Boyd ($5,600 P31)
  8. Ryan Truex ($6,800 P20)
