NBA Picks – Opening Night Expert Roundtable
Here at Win Daily Sports – our goal is to make our NBA DFS experts available via daily articles, cheat sheets and 1 on 1 coaching in Discord but sometimes you need a one-stop-shop for your NBA Picks – you want to know what our crew is thinking and how they are going to attack a slate.
So welcome to the Expert Roundtable where our NBA DFS experts are here to give you insight into how they are attacking the slate’s biggest questions!
Today around the table we have:
- @2LockSports – Brian Tulloch – Author of Picks and Pivots
- @Bucn4Life – Adam Strangis – Author of the Cash Game Breakdown
- @DFS_Ghost – Nick Di Tommaso – Author of Ghost’s Gems
Question 1: “Which approach are you taking when building a single lineup? Stars & Scrubs, Balanced, Game stack, etc.?”
2Lock: It really is site specific – on FanDuel you can get 4-5 studs with ease so it is far more Stars and Scrubs whereas DraftKings pricing is more challenging and I think limiting your stars to 2-3 and going more balanced with the rest of your build is optimal.
Ghost: On both DK and FD, I will be going Stars and Scrubs. I truly believe this slate will be dictated by which combination of studs gets you to the top of the tournament leaderboards.
Adam: It should be described as Stars and Scrubs. On DraftKings, we can fit three studs and on FanDuel we can really fit four of the six big names. However, some of these “scrubs” like Eric Paschall and Luke Kennard have strong roles on their respective teams.
Question 2: “Which stud is a lock for you on this slate?”
2Lock: Lock button Steph as the lone star without a Robin to his Batman. All the usage baby – ALL OF IT!
Ghost: In my main lineup, I will be playing Curry, Kyrie, and AD – on both sites. If I have to choose solely one stud to lock in on the entire slate, it’s Anthony Davis.
Adam: Steph Curry
Question 3: “Which stud are you most likely to fade in a single-entry contest or be underweight on in 150-max?”
2Lock: Kawhi Leonard. On both sites his price point is comparable to other stars I like more and for a player who only cracked 50 DK points once in four games against the Lakers last season, I think the ceiling is higher for other pay ups on this slate.
Ghost: I will have very little exposure to Paul George in my 150 lineups on both sites. If building one lineup, I’m fading whichever Laker star you do not play (i.e if you play Davis, fade LeBron, and vice-versa).
Adam: It’s mostly site dependant. On DK, it’s Kevin Durant. On FD, it’s LeBron James just because I can fit four of six and he’s the most expensive.
Question 4: “If you had to pick one star and one value play to be in the winning lineup, who would they be and why?”
2Lock: Adam is correct – it is Curry/Paschall for me. The perfect combination of injury news opening up minutes/usage in a high-paced offensive game environment.
Ghost: Both Eric Paschall and Luke Kennard will be in the winning lineup. With the Paschall chalk, it would be so 2020 for him not to get there but at a mere $3800 on DK, you have to lock him in considering he’s a strong candidate for 30+ minutes. My thoughts on Kennard can be found on the stream today – as well as a secret weapon
Adam: The easy answer is Curry and Paschall, but I’ll throw Luke Kennard in there for a value play as well. The Clippers will need some scoring off the bench and Kennard is a strong candidate to fill that roll.
Question 5: “Give us a hot take for the Opening Day slate.”
2Lock: Anthony Davis heads to the…. Optimal lineup? Sorry old habits. Listen, we all love Steph here today so I will pivot slightly because it’s what I do – Anthony Davis drops 70 DK points being guarded by Nicolas Batum and Pat Patterson.
Ghost: Curry and Davis combine for 120+ fantasy points and the Warriors cover.
Adam: Steph Curry goes for 40+ real points and hits at least six three-pointers.
