Holy high NBA DFS scores Batman! After a night where it took 420+ points to take down a GPP and 300 points didn’t even sniff the cash line – we are back with another 8 game slate to break down with our top DraftKings and FanDuel picks and plays!
NBA DFS Picks and Pivots: Slate Breakdown
Looking at this 8 game NBA DFS slate on Wednesday, we have a ton of star power with questionable injury tags including Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns, Clint Capela, Eric Bledsoe and Kevin Durant on his first B2B.
Now, tonight we will not have a Miami Heat situation with 5 players at minimum priced playing 30 minutes and if all the players listed above play – the “obvious” value is well – not so obvious.
Building Our Core:
Another day without Kyrie Irving and another day Kevin Durant ($9.4K) is far too cheap. At this point, if you are not playing him every day at this price, well you already missed out on 58 and 64 DK point games and if we can get superstars with 35% usage rates putting up 6x every night, well where do I sign?
The back to back is an anecdotal concern and I am willing to overlook it with this being an ESPN game against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. If you don’t think KD is going to ball out in The Garden on National TV, well enjoy the fade – he is lock city for me.
I have yet to write up a single New Orleans Pelicans player or game this season which is odd considering this was a team I targeted often last season but where the Pelicans were one of the fastest teams in the league last year, under Stan Van Gundy they are playing at a bottom 5 pace in the league.
What intrigues me tonight is that we may finally get some concentrated usage with Lonzo Ball ruled OUT and Eric Bledsoe questionable.
Brandon Ingram ($8.5K) and Zion Williamson ($7.3K) lead New Orleans with 25% and 28% usage rates respectively when sharing the court with the “normal” starting five but tonight if you can take guys like Lonzo and Bledsoe off the court – it will feed far more usage to this duo and at their current price points, they have the potential for massive upside.
Zion is one of the best PP/$ plays on this slate in my opinion – a player who has gone for 6x this value in two of his last three games and now gets the added usage boost. BI will have the far tougher match-up on the wing against Kawhi/PG13 so I would utilize him more in game stacks than as a one-off.
With Ball sidelined and Bledsoe questionable – the better secondary players here may be the value – and that starts with guys like Josh Hart ($5.4K), JJ Reddick ($3.3K) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker ($3.1K).
NAW served as Lonzo’s direct back-up in the Pelicans most recent game and would be one of the best value plays on the board as a high usage/high volume scorer at near minimum price.
Reddick is another solid value albeit a scoring dependent one but he has shown this year his ability to put up ceiling games – posting 21 and 30 DK points over his last 10 games and costs you just $300 over the minimum.
With so much interest on the Pelicans side, for GPP’s – I do love the idea of a late night game stack here with how concentrated the Clippers offense is right now with Kawhi Leonard ($9.7K) and Paul George ($9.3K).
Over the last two weeks, this due is sitting at 28/29% usage rated while putting up massive FP/M metrics at 1.3 for Kawhi and 1.4 for PG13. The fact PG13 has played 38+ minutes now in 6 straight and Kawhi is averaging 35 over the same stretch gives you a path at their recent production to build you a 100 DK point foundation.
Think of it this way – at a combined 2.7 FP/M – if this duo plays 37 minutes each tonight, that gets you to the 100 DK point outcome as a foundation.
The more I look at this slate the more I love the idea of this late night hammer which has massive star appeal and the potential for tons of value!
NBA DFS Picks and Pivots – The Wrap Up
It has been a while since I landed on a build like this early on but I love the idea on DraftKings of a Kevin Durant one-off with a Pelicans/Clippers game stack.
We have the potential to find serious value in this game and that is before we wait to see what other value pops today in our model/projections.
