NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Oct. 25)

This article will focus on NHL Daily Fantasy picks for both FanDuel and DraftKings. Using advanced hockey metrics, slate analysis, and line by line evaluation, this article will point you towards what we think are the best plays for the night! Good luck!

Monday 10/25 NHL Breakdown

Hey everyone, and welcome to the Man Advantage! I am filling in to bring you the Man Advantage today, where we will break down a nice looking seven game slate. Truthfully, I like a lot of spots tonight, and I think it might be important to play 3 stacks in your lineups to optimize the exposure you get to a few really good spots. 3-3-2 stacks might be the best way to attack this one.

Goalies:

Spencer Knight – Florida Panthers: Wow, what a matchup tonight for the Panthers. More on the overall matchup later, but Spencer Knight has been a very solid young goaltender for them, and tonight he gets what should be a very easy matchup against the Arizona Coyotes. I expect Knight to be heavy chalk, as he is the biggest home favorite on the slate.

Frederik Andersen – Carolina Hurricanes: I truly see this as a good matchup for Freddie, up against his old team in the Leafs. The Leafs have been struggling mightily to start this season, and the Canes are in a good spot. Freddie should see a lot of shots, so the upside is definitely there for him tonight.

Elvis Merlizkins – Columbus Blue Jackets: Elvis has been a solid goalie to start the year, sporting a solid 1.63 GAA and 0.947 SV%. He has a matchup tonight against the Dallas Stars that should be low scoring. However, he should see a good amount of shots, and he is solid enough to have the upside that no one looks at tonight.

Bonus GPP Goalie Pick – Jacob Markstrom – Calgary Flames: Markstrom has been playing pretty well so far this season, sporting a 2.3 GAA and a 0.924 SV%. I expect him to see a lot of shots tonight against the New York Rangers, and if he can stand tall, he should have some decent upside.

Lines to Build Around:

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Florida Panthers Power Play – Alexsander Barkov/Jonathan Huberdeau/Patric Hornqvist/Aaron Ekblad: The Panthers are HEAVY favorites tonight, and they are going against Carter Hutton and the Coyotes. The power play is the best way to get access to all of the Florida lines, and they are all in good matchups. I expect the Panthers to be chalk tonight, and this power play look gives us a chance to be a little different than the field.

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Brayden Point/Steven Stamkos/Ondrej Palat/Victor Hedman: The other Florida team heads on the road to Buffalo. We just found out the other night that Buffalo is still Buffalo, as the B’s beat up on them pretty badly. I expect a similar outcome tonight, as the Lightning are in a different class altogether. This top line looks good with the addition of Stamkos to it, and in a small sample, they are generating 17.73 high danger chances per 60 minutes. Buffalo loves giving up chances, so this line should have plenty of opportunity tonight.

Washington Capitals Power Play – Evgeny Kuznetsov/Alex Ovechkin/T.J. Oshie/John Carlson: Everyone will likely be looking at the Florida teams tonight, and it is important to not forget about Washington. They have been quietly having a solid season so far, and they get a great matchup tonight against Ottawa. I like the power play look for the same reason I like Florida’s – you can get access to multiple lines.

Honorable mention: CARPP

High Risk Lines:

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Carolina Hurricanes 3 – Jordan Staal/Nino Niederreiter/Jesper Fast: In their only home game, this line hard matched the second line for the Islanders. The third Hurricanes line is generating 14.18 high danger chances per 60, while the second line for the Leafs is giving up 17.37 high danger chances per 60 in a small sample. Translation: if this hard matching continues tonight, this line has a chance to have a ton of upside. It isn’t just about the high danger chances, though – the second Toronto line has given up a lot of standard scoring chances and shots in their small sample, making this line a high-risk, potentially high-reward play.

New York Rangers 1 – Mika Zibanejad/Alexis Lafreniere/Chris Kreider/Adam Fox: The Rangers have a home matchup tonight against the Calgary Flames. They have been somewhat underwhelming, and Markstrom for the Flames has been playing well, but I can still see them having a decent night tonight. The risk here is that Markstrom continues to play well. If playing Markstrom as your goalie, leave these guys out of that lineup.

Honorable mention: STL1, BUF1, LAK1
