NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Feb. 14)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s Valentine’s Day so why don’t you put down the phone and go spend time with your significant others… oh, no, you’d rather spend it playing NHL dfs? Ok, whatever you want.

Tonight is a four-game slate that has a later than usual start time of 8 pm eastern. This slate features a couple of potential lopsided matchups in the first two games on the slate and two matchups of teams still trying to figure out who they are in the late games.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

  1. Cam Talbot (vs Detroit): Talbot is the top goalie on this slate for me and honestly, it isn’t even really close. In his four starts since returning from injury Talbot is unbeaten, has allowed only five goals, and shut out the Blackhawks. Detroit is no offensive juggernaught and even though they put up four on Philly on Saturday I am not worried.
  2. Jack Campbell ( @ Seattle): On the opposite end of the spectrum from Talbot is Jack Campbell. In his last six games Campbell has not been good, except for his win over New Jersey on Feb 1st. Campbell is still a good play and has the perceived best matchup on the slate with Seattle. Petr Mrazek has been playing much better than Campbell lately and may get the start, if so you can safely roll with him too.
  3. Connor Hellebuyck (vs Chicago): Hellebuyck is similar to Campbell, solid goalie who has had a rough patch of late. In January, Hellebuyck was bad, but since February 1st he has been much improved. In four starts, Hellebuyck is 2-2 with eight goals allowed and a shutout. Hellebuyck has also stopped 31 shots or more in three of those four starts. It looks like Helly is starting to heat up along with the Jets and I will definetly have some shares of him tonight.
  4. James Reimer (vs Edmonton): Both the Sharks and Reimer shoud be will rested as this is their first game in 13 days. I don’t love this play, but he is a good upside GPP play at home against the Oilers. We all know Edmonton has been struggling to score with only eleven goals in their last five games.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Toronto Maple Leafs:

Toronto’s offense has been stymied some in their last two games, but those were against two top goalies in Markstrom and Demko, tonight is not one of those goalies. In their four games prior, Toronto scored 24 goals, including seven goals twice. Toronto should pick apart the Seattle D tonight and have a monster game offensively.

One positive about the Leafs is, outside of Auston Matthews, they aren’t overly expensive on either site. You could also make a case for stacking any of the top three lines and you could also use pieces from their fourth line as well.

Toronto L1: Bunting (PP2) – Matthews (PP1) – Marner (PP1)

Toronto L2: Kerfoot – Tavares (PP1) – Nylander (PP1)

Other options: Mikheyev (PP2), Kase (PP2), Spezza (PP2)

Defensemen to use: Morgan Rielly (PP1), Rasmus Sandin (PP2), Justin Holl

Minnesota Wild:

Minnesota is similar to Toronto where they haven’t been their best offensively, but a home matchup with the Red Wings should be able to turn things around. The Wild have only scored three times in their last two, but in the previous eight, they scored three or more goals in all eight. After Toronto’s top line, the first line for the Wild is next as far as projected points rank, but they are a more expensive stack. You can replace Ryan Hartman (PP2) with either Joel Eriksson Ek or Matt Boldy to save some salary for a PP1 stack with Kaprizov and Zuccarello. Both Eriksson Ek and Boldy is cheaper than Hartman, significantly so on DraftKings.

Minnesota’s second line has been more productive of late, featuring the aforementioned Boldy. Both Kevin Fiala and Frederick Gaudreau are point per game players in the team’s last five games with Fiala also seeing time with Hartman on the second PP unit.

Defensemen to use: Jon Merrill (Value), Jonas Brodin (PP2), Jared Spurgeon (PP1)

Other stacking options:

Edmonton L2: Kane (PP1) – Draisaitl (PP1) – Yamamoto. Dmen to use: Ceci, Nurse (PP2), Barrie (PP2)

Winnipeg L1 and L2: L1: Stastny (PP2) – Scheifele (PP1) – Wheeler (PP1), L2: Connor (PP1) – Copp – Perfetti (PP2). Also, you can use Pierre-Luc Dubois with the guys from PP1. He has been hot with 5 points in his last five but is centering line three

Dmen to use: Dillon, Schmidt (PP2), Heinola (value).

Detroit L1: Raymond (PP1) – Larkin (PP1) – Zadina (PP2). Dmen to use: Seider (PP1), Oesterle, Staal (value)

Value Stacks:

San Jose L2: Balcers – Couture (PP1) – Dahlen (PP2). Dmen to use: Burns (PP1), Meloche

Seattle 2: Jarnkrok (PP1) – Gourde (PP2) – Appleton (PP2). Dmen to use: Dunn (PP2), Fleury, Giordano (PP1)

Chicago L1: Kubalik (PP2) – Strome (PP1) – Kane (PP1). Dmen to use: de Haan, McCabe, Seth Jones (PP1)
