It’s Sunday here at WinDaily and it’s time for another edition of The Sweet Spot. First off, Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there. Hope you all have something planned for that great woman in your life. Now onto the fun stuff that you can take care of before the busy day begins. The early classic card features 9 games and not a lot of aces. But there are some nice arms that carry potential and finding the right ones will be the key to today.
This article will focus on Pitchers, from aces to value, and Hitters, from team stacks to studs to value plays. Prop bets for today will be provided in the Gophers and Gas article.
There are many tools available, but I hope you’re using the WinDaily Projection Model as that has been very helpful in rostering key players each night.
For DFS, the featured card today begins at 1:35 pm with 8 games on the slate. All DFS plays below will come from those 9 games and any later games will be captured in Discord.
PITCHERS – DRAFTKINGS
CLASSIC SLATE – 1:35 PM Start
MAX SCHERZER ($10,200 DK)
Let’s just say Scherzer is off to a rough start. And after a quick stint on IL, he returned last week with another bad outing. But he’s not a 5.56 ERA pitcher. So things are bound to change for the better. And I’m betting that starts today against a Nats team that struggles scoring runs (2nd least in NL).
LOGAN GILBERT ($9400 DK)
The Seattle RHP is my favorite arm on the board today. His FIP and SIERA are both more than 1 run lower than his 3.79 ERA. Additionally his K rate, 31%, and Ks per 9, 11.7, are both great numbers for DFS. Add in Detroit strikes out at a high rate and we have a very enticing matchup.
MARCUS STROMAN ($8500 DK)
Stroman has been solid all season. He’s allowed just 3 homers which all came in his lone bad start of the year versus LAD. Today he faces Minnesota who is last in the league in batting at 0.222. Plus they are in the top 4 in the league in K rate.
KOOL-AIDE MAN (SWEET SPOT VALUE PITCHER UNDER $7K)
BRAXTON GARRETT ($5900 DK)
Garrett won’t wow you with his stuff. And his high ERA will make people shy away from him today. But his FIP and xFIP are way lower than his ERA. His 0.383 BABIP shows he’s been unlucky to date. And his ballooned ERA is mainly because of one start. He’s actually registered double digits in 5 of 7 starts. And Cincinnati has a high K rate and low batting totals so it’s a matchup we can attack.
BONUS PICKS
I do like LOUIE VARLAND ($7800 DK) to an extent. He has 20 Ks in 16.1 innings pitched. And Chicago has been slowed down recently (4 of 12 games in May they scored 1 run or less).
HITTERS – DRAFTKINGS
CLASSIC SLATE – 1:35 PM
SWEET SPOT STACK ATTACK: The stacks I like today in the MLB are the Mariners (vs Wentz), the Astros (vs. Giolito), the Brewers (vs. Lyles) and the Marlins (vs. Weaver).
CORE BATTERS
AARON JUDGE ($6200 DK)
WILLY ADANES ($4400 DK)
SLAP HITTER (SWEET SPOT VALUE BATTER) – LESS THAN $3K
ALEX KIRILOFF ($2600 DK)
The once high prospect in the Twins system has once again resurfaced with the big league team. And he’s trying to make sure he stays around for a while this time. In 7 games he’s batting 0.438 with 2 homers.
