5/23 Bundesliga Saturday Slate

After a big opening weekend, the Bundesliga is down to eight match weeks. That figure includes both this weekend’s match week and the upcoming match week Tuesday/Wednesday. Four of the top five teams were able to handle business last weekend with only RB Leipzig falling short with a draw. With Schalke falling away at Dortmund 4-0, it is now a five team race for the four Champion’s League Group Stage spots next season.

This weekend, the matchups get tougher. Particularly for Gladbach and Monday’s studs, Kai Havertz and Bayer Leverkusen. They find themselves locked in a #3/#5 battle which will surely have Champion’s League qualification ramifications. Meanwhile, Dortmund is favored against a decent Wolfsburg team. They will have to win to ensure they go into Tuesday’s season headline matchup with Bayern Munich neck to neck in the table.

5/23 Bundesliga Site Specific Strategy

DraftKings presents a more balanced slate with only the four main slate games. The late game, where Bayern Munich is a whopping -770 favorite and has the highest projected total by a lot, is excluded. It is likely that Dortmund will be the chalk as the slate’s largest favorite at -135. There is really nothing else to spend up for. I think in cash games you eat, but feel free to be different in tournaments. Dortmund is no absolute lock in this spot.

Meanwhile on FanDuel, it is hard to avoid Bayern Munich. Lineups will come well after main lock, but Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry should have their standard spots. Thomas Muller should resume his role as the #10 with Phillipe Coutinho still sidelined, in addition to Muller’s awesome recent play. Joshua Kimmich and last game’s hero Benjamin Pavard should be in there. The spot up for grabs is the one wing spot opposite Gnabry. Last week, it was Leon Goretzka but it could be Kingsley Coman this time around.

The Betting Gameplan

Dortmund needs a win if they want to keep pace with Bayern Munich for Tuesday’s big afternoon showdown with the eight time defending champions. Dortmund looked really impressive last week, even without Jadon Sancho starting. I think that momentum carries over, setting up a nice parlay combining the Bundesliga’s top two teams.
