**Exercise caution on these smaller slates, very little room for error and very heavy chalk. Due to size of slate players listed will be limited to two per position.

10/6 NHL DFS Centers

Tyler Johnson (TBL) – Johnson will fill in for Brayden Point who is out with a hip injury. Tampa Bay rank second coming into the 2019-20 season in terms of fantasy production. Point is a huge part of the top forward line on this team but Johnson will get a significant boost in ice time (13;47 in 2018) and he will also serve on the Lightening’s top power play unit.

Mathew Barzal (NYI) – Barzal is coming off one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory. He finished the 2018 season with 85 points (22 goals, 63 assists), and three five-point games, ranking 14th best in the NHL. The Calder Trophy winner will look to continue his success story against a Winnipeg Jets Dline that took some major losses in the off-season.

Punts – Jordan Staal (CAR)

10/6 NHL DFS Wingers

Nikita Kucherov (TBL) – Kucherov lead this NHL last season with 128 points (41 goals, 87 assists). He has increased his point total every year for the last five years but will face one of the deepest defensive lines in the NHL. Tampa Bay was the top scoring offense in 2018 with 319 goals, 30 goals more than any other team in the league.

Nicholaj Ehlers (WPG) – Despite the massive losses to Winnipeg’s defensive line, they still have one of the most formidable offenses in the NHL. They ranked 8th in 2018 with with 270 goals (243 assists). Ehlers comes in as the top value play on the board, he will be popular but chalk worth eating. Ehlers is off to a nice start in 2019 with four assists and ten shots.

Punts – Anthony Mantha (DET), Todd Bertuzzi (DET).

10/6 NHL DFS Defensemen

Ryan McDonagh (TBL) – McDonagh comes in at great price and a great matchup with Erik Cernak against the Hurricanes FL#2. McDonagh had 161 blocks, 37 assists, and nine goals in an award winning 2018 season. (NHL All-Star, James Norris Memorial Trophy). McDonagh has four blocks and one hit to start the 2019-20 NHL season.

Erik Cernak (TBL) – Erik Cernak and Ryan McDonagh are like spaghetti and meatball. Cernak didn’t have quite the 2018 season McDonagh had but he was still an enforcer on the ice with 198 hits, 79 blocks, and 11 assists. Cernak has four blocks and four hits to begin the 2019-20 season.

HM: Erik Gustafsson, P.K. Subban

10/6 NHL DFS Goalies

Andre Vasilevskiy (TBL) – Vasilevskiy is coming off of his first NHL season as the number one goalie for Tampa Bay. He finished the season tied for the most wins (44) and shut outs (eight). He also finished the season with a .920 SV% which is incredible for a 24 year old. The fact that he is putting up these types of numbers so early in his career only leaves you to wonder how good he will be this year and years to come. He comes in at a hefty price so paying down in your offensive positions will be the way to get to him on a short slate. (Curtis McElhinney may draw start)

Semyon Varlamov – Varlamov stopped 26 of 28 shots in an impressive first outing but ultimately could not get the win because his teammates could not score. Semyon offers great upside with his goal saving capability and comes in at a fair price and allows you to pay up elsewhere. Varlamov finished the 2018 season with a .909 SV% and will look to maintain a .920+ SV% in the 2019-20 season.
