UFC Vegas 4: Poirier vs Hooker Picks and Preview

UFC Vegas 4: Poirier vs Hooker Picks and Preview

This weekend, the UFC Vegas 4 event at their Apex facility will play home to a high-stakes lightweight fight between two top contenders, Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker. Poirier is the former interim lightweight champion, while Hooker, who is from City Kickboxing the same home as UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. As Hooker looks to continue to rise up the lightweight division, he comes into this fight on a three-fight winning streak with wins over Paul Felder, Al Iaquinta, and James Vick. The rest of the card will be filled with young and fresh faces that not many will know, but there are some good opportunities to cash in on the rest of the card.

These odds are courtesy of PointsBet.
You can also find alternate lines at DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook.

Fight 1: Jordan Griffin (+100) vs Youssez Zalal (-125)

The veteran fighter, in comparison throws more strikes than Zalal but also takes more as well. Zalal utilizes his wrestling more than Griffin in comparison, but you should expect this fight to go to the ground.

It’s a pick’em fight so Mike’s pick: Zalal by submission

Fight 2: Jinh Yu Frey (+140) vs Kay Hansen (-175)

Both women are making their UFC debuts after spending their young careers in Invicta FC. Hansen is now the youngest fighter on the UFC roster and has half of her wins by submission. Frey is the more experienced fighter and former Invicta FC atomweight champion, with 6 of her 9 wins going to decision.

Mike’s pick: Hansen by decision

Fight 3: Takashi Sato vs Jason Witt (Currently no line)

This one is rare as Witt has stepped in on 24 hours notice to take on Sato after his original opponent had a cornerman test positive for COVID-19. There is no money line at this time, so avoid this fight.

Fight 4: Luis Pena (-270) vs Khama Worthy (+205)

This is my favorite fight of the night outside of the main event, because fireworks are not just promised, they’re guaranteed. Worthy landed the biggest betting upset in 2019 in his UFC debut with a first-round knockout of Devonte Smith. Worthy has more experience, but Pena has also delivered a showcase in each of his UFC appearances, as his only losses have come by split decision. Both fighters told the media they plan to meet in the middle and throw down, so a quick finish prop bet is not out of question. Pena is the safer pick, but Worthy has shown you cant’ bet against him.

Mike’s pick: Luis Pena

Fight 5: Sean Woodson (-500) vs Julian Erosa (+350)

These fights are usually eyebrow raisers, with Erosa coming in as the veteran but heavy underdog. Woodson is undefeated in his career and has a lot of promises to his career, but neither fighter wastes their time in the cage. Erosa comes in on a four-fight losing streak and facing an undefeated fighter, he has something to prove.

Mike’s pick: Sean Woodson

Fight 6: Tanner Boser (-112) vs Philipe Lins (-112)

A pick’em fight between heavyweights is just a fun fight to watch. Do not expect this fight to go to the ground, unless there’s a knockout occurring. They both share relatively similar cage experience, but after having his first two fights go to the judges, he will be looking to make a statement against higher competition.

Mike’s pick: Boser

Fight 7: Brendan Allen (-325) vs Kyle Daukaus (+240)

This is one of the most interesting fights on the card as Daukaus has an immense amount of talent and making his UFC debut against guy who has been looking for a fight. Daukaus will be the favorite in the striking department while Allen will look to utilize his wrestling. Allen has had multiple fights postponed and opponents changed during the pandemic, so there’s no telling how he comes into this fight other than amped up.

Mike’s pick: Kyle Daukaus

Fight 8: Maurice Greene (-230) vs Gian Villante (+180)

Big fan of this fight, but Greene recently changed camps to JacksonWink MMA in New Mexico, so it will be interesting to see what changes he has made since the move. Villante hasn’t fought since February 2019 but this fight should remain on the feet for the most part. Greene is very good in the clinch, but Villante has a takedown defense of over 80%. I expect this fight to stay on the feet and a finish to come sooner than later.

Mike’s pick: Gian Villante

Fight 9: Mike Perry (-325) vs Mickey Gall (+240)

This fight is quite interesting from the betting line standpoint. Mickey Gall is ridiculously talented, especially on the ground. Mike Perry comes to fight and is not afraid of a war, but if Gall gets this to the ground, it could be over quick.

Mike’s pick: Mickey Gall

Fight 10: Dustin Poirier (-225) vs Dan Hooker (+175)

This is a very risky fight from a gambling perspective. Poirier is the former interim lightweight champion and had Khabib Nurmagomedov in a serious choke in their fight last September. Hooker is coming in with a lot of momentum, and this fight should be more of a kickboxing fight than anything. The fact that Poirier has gone toe-to-toe with some of the most elite fighters over his career, gives him the edge in my opinion, but if you’re feeling risky on a parlay, take Hooker.

Mike’s pick: Dustin Poirier
