We have a fairly straightforward four-game Sunday NHL DFS slate to look forward to. I’m going to pump the brakes on the reliance on peripheral stats and put out some more takes from a thirty-thousand-foot view for this slate. Aside from reading the 1/22 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

1/22 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

San Jose Sharks (+260) at Boston Bruins (-315)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Kings (-230) at Chicago Blackhawks (+195)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (-165) at Philadelphia Flyers (+140)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (-195) at Arizona Coyotes (+165)6 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Two – “Mark Schiefele ($5,800), Nikolaj Ehlers ($7,300), Blake Wheeler ($5,000)

The Jets’ second line should see ownership with the price as the primary factor. This line put up four combined goals last night so there may be some recency bias. They are very affordable, yet offer both similarity and upside in a game where Winnipeg are -165 road favorites. Mark Schiefele is my favorite play of the three, averaging a point per game with 28 goals for under $6,000. Nikolaj Ehlers is a bit expensive at $7,300 but has been hot since his return from an early-season injury. Both of the aforementioned skaters see time on the Jets’ top power play. There is little sample size available here as Ehlers had been skating with the top line previously. On the second line, it is easier to fit him in with two affordable skaters alongside him. With Samuel Ersson sent to the minors, the Jets should have a tasty matchup with Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom who has horrible numbers!

1/22 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Los Angeles One – “Anze Kopitar ($5,400), Adrian Kempe ($5,100), Quinton Byfield ($3,200)”

People just don’t like the Kings. However, they are -230 favorites here in a 6.5 total game and more affordable than the Bruins. For me, the second line is a pass so you’re looking at the first and third lines. There is nothing great in terms of peripheral stats amongst any of the lines right now both of the aforementioned lines have been respectable as of late. This is clearly a plus matchup and we’re not breaking the bank either.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Drew Doughty – Los Angeles Kings – $4,800 – Double-digits DraftKing points in four of his last five games so feeling it. Plus gives us a correlation with Los Angeles One listed both on the top line and top power-play unit. This is for under $5,000.

Goalie

Linus Ullmark – Boston Bruins – $8,500 – This is a nasty slate for goalies with many starters such as Conor Hellebuyck, Carter Hart, Logan Thompson and other regular starters having played yesterday. Ullmark stands out by a lot and in cash games is an easy choice. His 1.88 GAA and .937 save percentage are Vezina-worthy. I don’t even know who’s the #2 goalie on this slate, maybe Adin Hill?

1/22 NHL Best Bet

Winnipeg/Philadelphia – O6 (-120) – Bet MGM – 1 Unit – With the starting goalies resting, bad backups, and two hot teams, I like the over here and every other site has already moved the line to 6.5 so grab the six total if you can.

Jammed in between two big Tuesday and Thursday slates we have a nice five-game NHL DFS slate to look forward to. As far as the projected totals for tonight, they come in all ends of the spectrum. However, on a smaller slate like this, we can take a couple more stands.

Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. Sign up for more Win Daily content here.

1/18 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Pittsburgh Penguins (-130) at Ottawa Senators (+110)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Boston Bruins (-165) at New York Islanders (+140)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (+115) at Calgary Flames (-135)6 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (-165) at San Jose Sharks (+140)6 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay Lightning (-180) at Vancouver Canucks (+155)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay One – “Brayden Point ($6,400), Brandon Hagel ($5,600), Nikita Kucherov ($7,800)

Dallas One will get some love here too but the Lightning will be facing the defensively deficient Canucks in a 6.5 total matchup. Tampa’s top line has been solid over their last ten games. They have put up 103 SATF and seven full goals as a line during that timeframe, good for sixth in SATF and tying for first in the NHL in goals across that span. If you want to leave off Kucherov and run it as a two-man, I don’t mind that. Kuch just simply hasn’t been scoring as many goals this season so hard to justify his price tag unless you can afford it.

10-Day Sample SizeSATF “measures all shot attempts including missed and block shot attempts”

1/18 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Calgary Three – “Mikael Backlund ($4,800), Andrew Mangiapane ($3,800), Blake Coleman ($3,400)”

The Flames will be at home and the whole team, particularly this line, has had some fire “no pun intended” peripheral stats lately. Calgary’s depth is notable, but as you can see from the table above, it has been the second and third lines that stand out. As a result, I don’t mind the Flames’ second line and if running multiple lines I’d feature my second lineup around them. That said, the third line has been #1 “you heard correctly” in the NHL in SATF over their last ten games. Alexander Georgiev in the opposing net has been fairly up and down as of late. I expect him to get peppered with shots all around here as the Flames really start to break out after their underwhelming start to the season.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Ty Smith – Pittsburgh Penguins – $4,300 – Filling in for Kris Letang on the first line and top power-play unit for only $4,300, a no-brainer play in all formats.

Goalie

Linus Ullmark – Boston Bruins – $8,200 – On paper it makes sense with Boston the -165 favorite in a rare 5.5 total game. Ullmark’s 1.82 GAA and .938 save percentage are stellar. All things considered here, he should be $8,500. If you really need the salary or are building multiple lines I’d roster the Islanders goalie “could be either or entering a back-to-back”.

1/18 NHL Best Bet

Boston Bruins 60 Minute ML (-105) – DraftKings – 1 Unit

The Sunday 1/15 NHL DFS slate is among the tinier NHL slates we’ve seen recently. However, we have you covered for some MLK Weekend hockey, despite the slate’s brevity.

Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

1/15 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 5 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Vancouver Canucks (+210) at Carolina Hurricanes (-250)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Montreal Canadiens (+235) at New York Rangers (-280)6 Projected Goal Total

Arizona Coyotes (+275) at Winnipeg Jets (-330)6 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Two – “Paul Stastny ($3,100), Alexander Svechnikov ($6,300), Martin Necas ($6,800)

Carolina Two has been putting up monster peripheral numbers lately, second-best in the NHL over the last ten games. They get an ideal matchup hosting the Vancouver Canucks at 3 p.m. lock. I don’t necessarily if they’ll be that popular either. The Hurricanes’ top lines as well as the Rangers’ lines should grab plenty of ownership. The Hurricanes/Canucks game is the only 6.5 total game on the slate however and the Canes are big favorites.

10-Day Sample SizeGF “Goals Followed”

1/15 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Carolina Three – “Jordan Staal ($3,500), Jordin Martinook ($2,900), Jesper Fast ($2,500)”

As noted in Thursday’s article and the table above, they are peripheral monsters. Especially on a three-game slate, I think it’s fair to try to take another stab at them. Currently, they are fifth in the NHL in SATF over their last ten games. Furthermore, as mentioned above under Carolina Two, the Canucks are a plus matchup. One quick note, I don’t think you use both Carolina lines together so it’s a matter of choosing one or the other.

Montreal One doesn’t make for a bad side option as they have clearly been underperforming their peripheral stats. It’s a tough matchup with the Rangers but hence why their contrarian and could find some positive regression.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

K’Andre Miller – New York Rangers – $3,800 -On a roll and simply underpriced. Miller has 11.3, 18, and 23.9 DraftKings points in his last three games. Very chalky but at this price, that makes sense.

Goalie

Conor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets – $8,500 – The man, the myth, the legend, reassumes his role as the Hot Shot starting goalie. I mean the Jets are -330 favorites hosting the Coyotes in a six-total game. Our boy is coming into this one off the back of a 41-save win Thursday night.

1/15 NHL Best Bet

Vancouver/Carolina – O 6.5 (-115) – DraftKings – 1 Unit – The Sharp model has this total pegged at 7.47% for 12.40% EV.

The 1/12 NHL DFS slate features a whopping twelve games. One might say the lines listed below are a bit unique, but you’re either first or you’re last!

Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

1/12 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Winnipeg Jets (-130) at Buffalo Sabres (+110)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (+200) at Boston Bruins (-240)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Nashville Predators (-140) at Montreal Canadiens (+120)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (-315) at Columbus Blue Jackets (+260)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (+100) at New York Rangers (-120)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-145) at Detroit Red Wings (+125)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks (+210) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-250)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Minnesota Wild (-115) at New York Islanders (-105)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (-170) at St. Louis Blues (+145)6 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (-315) at Chicago Blackhawks (+260)6 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (-165) at Arizona Coyotes (+140) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Florida Panthers (+110) at Vegas Golden Knights (-130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay One Two-Man Stack “Brayden Point ($6,700), Brandon Hagel ($6,200)

So, I want to use Tampa Bay here as huge -250 money line home favorites against Vancouver “second most goals allowed in the NHL” in a 6.5 total game. It is a twelve-game slate so ownership should be spread out a little bit. Furthermore, it makes more sense on the large slate to roll with two-man stacks to try to capture the majority of the points in a couple of games. This line has had terrific actual production and peripheral stats all season.

For the season they are second in the NHL as a full line in SATF. Currently, they are tied as a full line for second in goals over their last ten games with eighth and tenth in SATF. However, I simply cannot swallow Nikita Kucherov’s hefty $8,700 price tag. Especially when he’s rarely scoring goals just providing lots of assists. As a result, I think we just go with the aforementioned two-man setup roll with the two “lesser” skaters.

10-Day Sample SizeGF “Goals Followed”

1/12 NHL Favorite Contrarian Lines

Carolina Two “Paul Stastny ($3,000), Martin Necas ($6,600), Andrei Svechnikov ($6,300)”

Carolina Three “Jordan Staal ($3,100), Jordin Martinook ($4,700), Jesper Fast ($4,500)”

The Hurricanes are in a smash spot as (-315) favorites in a game against the Blue Jackets, who allow the most goals in the Eastern Conference. They should be sort of popular right? Well, maybe the top two lines but sometimes coming in second or third isn’t so bad after all. These lines are absolute peripheral darlings and have been all season. As you can see from the graphic they are both in the top ten in the NHL over the last ten games in SATF. The second line has come in 2nd across that span. I’d probably roll more with the second line which you can run as either a two-man or add in Stastny for the savings. For the third line, I definitely wouldn’t use all three skaters, instead, just pick two. Both of these lines are great for bigger tournaments and for use with more popular lines.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Calen Addison – Minnesota – $3,300 – This guy is one of my usual favorites. Super cheap, role on the power play. He put up a goose egg last time out but had double-digit points in three straight before it. The matchup with the Islanders certainly isn’t the best but he can’t really hurt us, only help with his upside.

Goalie

Ilya Sorokin -New York Islanders – $7,500 – I’m looking at the two 5.5 total games featuring the New York goaltenders in net for $7,500 apiece. Both have stellar credentials but I’ll give the nod to Igor. Dallas scares me slightly more than Minnesota “and also I’m a homer and could never go Rangers over Islanders”, although you can go either way. If one doesn’t end up starting that would make the decision easy.

Honorable Mention: Igor Shesterskin – New York Rangers – $7,500

1/12 NHL Best Bet

St. Louis Blues (+145) – DraftKings – 0.75 Units – The computer is smarter than our simple human minds can imagine. Since the Sharp model has been on a roll and it’s giving St. Louis a 7.14% money line, let’s go for it.

Welcome back to the Sunday edition of the Hot Shot. If you had the Seattle Kraken’s 2% owned top line and 3.5% owned Justin Schultz last night, you probably made money. Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

1/8 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Pittsburgh Penguins (-230) at Arizona Coyotes (+195)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (-305) at Chicago Blackhawks (+255)6 Projected Goal Total

St. Louis Blues (-115) at Minnesota Wild (-105)6 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-205) at Philadelphia Flyers (+175)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Boston Bruins (-275) at Anaheim Ducks (+230)6 Projected Goal Total

Toronto One “Auston Matthews ($9,000), William Nylander ($7,500), Michael Bunting ($5,200)

I wrote them up last night and they disappointed but this seems like a double-down spot. It’s tempting to now turn to Pittsburgh, Calgary, or Boston out of emotion. That’s what I think most people will do, thus spreading ownership further. Give me the superior line for a bounceback in a 6.5 total game. In terms of peripheral numbers as of late, Toronto One has easily been the top line of those available tonight. They have been second in the NHL over the last ten games in terms of SATF, my favorite indicator of performance.

10-Day Sample SizeSATF “accounts for all shot attempts by line including missed and blocked shots”

1/8 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Calgary Three “Mikael Backlund ($4,900), Andrew Mangiapane ($3,900), Blake Coleman ($3,000)”

This line has been absolutely killing it as of late as illustrated above, where they are third in the NHL in SATF over the last ten games. People are more likely to turn to the Calgary top line if targeting that game and a host of lines on other teams. The Flames’ third line has a very tempting appeal. They will be contrarian, feature in a game their team is a -305 favorite, have tremendous peripheral stats as of late, and give us a bunch of salary relief. I’m not sure what else to add to that, just play Calgary Three!

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Calen Addison – Minnesota – $3,300 – I love honing in on cheap guys with offensive upside who are in the zone. Mr. Addison had a three-point game Wednesday night “one goal, two assists” and two assists last night. At this price, lock, and load.

Jeremy Swayman – Boston – $8,200 – It’s rare that I write up a backup goalie but ready to lean and sway with it with Swayman. He has a strong 2.63 GAA and a solid matchup against the hapless Ducks who only average 2.47 goals per game.

1/8 NHL Best Bet

Toronto Maple Leafs 60 Minute ML (-130) – DraftKings – 1 Unit – Once again we’re rolling with a pick that has tremendous EV in the Sharp Model.

It’s time for the weekend and we have a nice Saturday NHL DFS slate tonight to help you relax. The 1/7 NHL DFS slate features seven games beginning at regular lock. Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

1/7 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Minnesota Wild (-120) at Buffalo Sabres (+100)6.5 Projected Goal Total

St. Louis Blues (-165) at Montreal Canadiens (+140)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (-115) at Ottawa Senators (-105)6 Projected Goal Total

Detroit Red Wings (+210) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-250)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (+110) at Edmonton Oilers (-130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Kings (+135) at Vegas Golden Knights (-155)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Boston Bruins (-260) at San Jose Sharks (+220)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Toronto One “Auston Matthews ($8,700), William Nylander ($7,200), Michael Bunting ($5,000)

The Maple Leafs are the biggest money-line favorites on the slate at -250. Over the last ten games, this line is second in the NHL in terms of SATF as illustrated below.

10-Day Sample SizeSATF “accounts for all shot attempts by line including missed and blocked shots”

Due to the combination of the above, due to the surprise of no one, they should be the chalkiest line on the slate. That said, they are feeling it right now and are featuring in a game that starts at lock so the expected ownership makes sense. I think in any tournament larger than a ten-person if you use them, be sure to pair with them some sort of more contrarian alignment.

1/7 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Seattle One “Matty Beniers ($4,500), Andre Burakovsky ($4,700), Jordan Eberle ($4,500)”

Sometimes we base our picks purely on stats. This line has probably underwhelmed this season relative to their talent. They are cheap salary wise so help to make a lot of the more expensive lines on this slate fit. Considering they’re the Kraken are the road team in the only six total game on the slate “the remaining 6/7 games are currently projected for 6.5”. As a result, I don’t think this line will be very popular. Albeit under different circumstances, both Andre Burakovsky and Jordan Eberle had monster seasons last year and should pick things up a bit soon. The one big con is neither of the three is featured in Seattle’s top power-play unit but that is more than reflected in the price.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Justin Schultz – Seattle – $3,300 – He’s cheap and has always been an offensive-oriented defenseman. Furthermore, he correlates with the Contrarian line listed above on the Kraken’s second power-play unit.

Goalie

Craig Anderson -Buffalo- $7,500 – It does not make much sense to spend up here but Alexander Georgiev is in poor form as of late and it’s a tough matchup for Phoenix Copley. Give me Anderson who has continued to be solid and should face sufficient shot volume here with the Sabres hosting the Wild.

1/7 NHL Best Bet

San Jose Sharks +1.5 (-115) – DraftKings – 1 Unit – The Sharp model has a very strong take on this so let’s defer to the projections.

It’s time to kick off 2023 and we have a four-game NHL Sunday slate to look forward to. Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

1/1 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 5 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

New York Rangers (+110) at Florida Panthers (-130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (-115) at Chicago Blackhawks (-105)6 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (+105) at Ottawa Senators (-125)6.5 Projected Goal Total

New York Islanders (+105) at Seattle Kraken (-125)6 Projected Goal Total

Slate Summary

I think a lot of the ownership will spread out between lines from the Rangers, Panthers, and Sharks. Instead, I think we target the lines in the Buffalo Sabres/Ottawa Senators. There seems to be some leverage in rolling a game stack of the latter game in tournaments. On a four-game slate ownership matters and it should be a bit lighter on that game, despite similar potential upside as the 6.5 total would indicate.

Buffalo One “Tage Thompson ($8,900), Jeff Skinner ($7,100), Alex Tuch ($6,700)

They were the listed play Thursday night and think it’s back to the well again here. The second line ended up shining instead, but think we’re due for a bit of a positive correction for the first line. Buffalo makes more sense if spending the salary. As a team, the Sabres are on fire, winners of six straight. That includes a 6-0 win over the Kings, road wins over the Avalanche, Golden Knights, and Bruins so not shabby at all.

1/1 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Ottawa Two “Drake Batherson ($6,000), Alex DeBrincat ($7,000), Shane Pinto ($4,300)”

Unfortunately, they did not go off Thursday night against the Red Wings. However, once again, they’re worth a look as a contrarian flyer in large tournaments. As far as peripheral stats go, they have only increased their standing since Thursday night’s article. They are the hosts and favorites in a 6.5 total game where I would lean toward it turning into a shootout.

10-Day Sample Size – SATF “accounts for all shot attempts by line including missed and blocked shots”

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Alexander Romanov – New York Islanders – $3,100 – He has assists in three of his last four games, so at $3,100 we’re getting a guy in a bit of a groove. Aside from the real-life points, he is at least a decent shot blocker as well.

Goalie

Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders – $7,800 – Not trying to be a total homer but Sorokin is on a roll, winner of three straight starts. The Islanders suck their opponents into low total games and Sorokin’s 2.26 GAA and .926 save percentage aren’t just good, they are the stuff Vezina Trophies are made of.

1/1 NHL Best Bets

Rangers ML (+112), Sabres ML (+115), (Islanders ML (+105) – DraftKings – 1 Unit Apiece

Welcome back to the Hot Shot. I hope everyone enjoyed a terrific holiday weekend and now we bring you seasons tidings this week in the form of an eleven-game NHL DFS slate. The full breakdown of the Thursday Night NHL slate can be found below in what is the last Hot Shot of 2022. Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

12/29 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Detroit Red Wings (+130) at Buffalo Sabres (-150)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Montreal Canadiens (+225) at Florida Panthers (-265)6.5 Projected Goal Total

New York Rangers (+125) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-145)6 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+200) at New York Islanders (-240)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (+140) at Washington Capitals (-165)6 Projected Goal Total

Chicago Blackhawks (+215) at St. Louis Blues (-255)6 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (+100) at Minnesota Wild (-120)6 Projected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks (+135) at Winnipeg Jets (-155)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-265) at Arizona Coyotes (+225)6 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Kings (+125) at Colorado Avalanche (-145)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Philadelphia Flyers (+140) at San Jose Sharks (-165)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo One “Tage Thompson ($8,800), Jeff Skinner ($6,900), Alex Tuch ($6,800)

The Red Wings will arrive in Buffalo on the second leg of a road back-to-back. This line has been lighting it up lately with nine goals over their last ten games, tying them for second among all lines in the NHL. Their 95 SATF is good for tenth best in the NHL during that span, so not quite as great. However, this is a plus matchup. Detroit comes in one point up on the Sabres in the standings despite Buffalo’s +27 better differential. As of the time of writing, the Red Wings have allowed at least four goals in five straight games. All this said, the Sabre’s top line should be a little chalky but for good reason. They are expensive so I don’t mind a two-man stack with Thompson and either/or.

10-Day Sample SizeActual Goals/Goals Followed “GF”

Honorable Mention: San Jose “Either of the top two lines”– The Sharks will be facing this Samuel Ersson “whatever/whoever that is” in the opposing net. Ersson looks terrible!

12/29 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Ottawa Two “Drake Batherson ($6,300), Alex DeBrincat ($7,300), Shane Pinto ($4,400)”

Ottawa comes in a +140 road dog in a 6 total matchup against the Caps. So on an eleven-game slate, I think it’s safe to say people won’t exactly be lining up to roster the Sens’ second line. However, the line in the reverse fixture a week ago was set at 6.5 so the 6 total might turn out to be an overreaction to the 3-2 last time out and the Capitals’ win streak/recent defensive display. Furthermore, this line is tied for seventh in the NHL in SATF over the last ten games with 105. The two far more expensive skaters on the line feature on Ottawa’s top power-play unit so are key. They won’t fit in terms of salary with the chalk line listed above but make for a solid flier to build around in a large field tournament.

10-Day Sample Size – SATF “accounts for all shot attempts by line including missed and blocked shots”

Defenseman and Goalies

Defenseman

Erik Gustafsson – Washington – $3,900 – I’m a sucker for value, and with John Carlson out, the former Blackhawk Erik Gustafsson gives us a bit. He is quarterbacking the Washington power play in John Carlson’s absence so can grab some apples off of Ovi quite easily. He sets up as a part of a game stack with the contrarian Ottawa line mentioned above. He has double-digit DraftKings points in four of his last five which include two monster outputs “43.3 hat trick, 32.4”.

Goalies

Matt Murray – Toronto – $8,400 – The Toronto goaltender seems like the cash play with his 2.34 GAA, .925 save %, and matchup against the Coyotes. That said he’s probably not a high-upside GPP play due to a potential lack of shot volume.

Craig Anderson -Buffalo- $7,800 – It should be an upbeat battle with the Red Wings and the Sabres are -150 home favorites. There’s potential for the best of both worlds here. Mr. Anderson has strong numbers with a 2.65 GAA and .922 save %. and is one game removed from a 40-save shutout, so in solid form at the moment.

12/29 NHL Best Bet

Columbus Blue Jackets +1.5 (-125) – DraftKings – 1 Unit – The Islanders tend to play up or down to their opponents. Give me the points here.

As we approach the holiday weekend, we are down to two NHL slates before a mini-break. Tonight’s slate is not the jampacked slate we had last week but perhaps that’s a good thing. This slate is a perfect size with seven games to choose from.

Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

12/22 NHL Main Slate – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Winnipeg Jets (+190) at Boston Bruins (-225)6 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (-105) at Pittsburgh Penguins (-115)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (-120) at Ottawa Senators (+100)6.5 Projected Goal Total

New York Islanders (+135) at New York Rangers (-155)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (-120) at Vancouver Canucks (+100)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (-110) at Los Angeles Kings (-110)6 Projected Goal Total

Minnesota Wild (-165) at San Jose Sharks (+140)6 Projected Goal Total

Minnesota One “Kirill Kaprizov ($8,800), Mats Zuccarello ($8,100), Sam Steel ($3,900)

On a slate mostly filled with much tighter matchups, Minnesota stands out as one of the bigger favorites at -165. Furthermore, the top line leads all NHL lines in SATF and is tied for second in goals scored “10” over the last ten games. They should be chalky, but Kirill Kaprizov is coming off back-to-back three-point games and is in a position to add to that streak. As for Mats Zuccarello, he has stepped up his game to new levels with 36 points in 31 games including scoring double-digit DraftKings points in eight straight games. Sam Steel may not give us the upside of the other two skaters “absent some luck” but is less than half each of their prices, so there’s that!

12/22 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Seattle One “Jared McCann ($4,300), Jordan Eberle ($4,400), Matty Beniers ($5,300)”

As you can see in the graphic above, this line has been killing it lately as well over the last ten-game sample size. However, I don’t think people will be rushing to play them. Much like the Wild above, they will be playing in a late game. This is one of the two 6.5 total games on the slate and Seattle is a favorite albeit a slight one. Furthermore, these guys are cheap. If looking to condense a little more, I don’t mind running it as a two-man stack with just Jared McCann and Jordan Eberle. They’re the two cheapest of the three skaters and the salary savings comes in handy. This said it is Eberle and Matty Beniers who feature on the Kraken’s top power-play unit.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Justin Schultz – Seattle – $3,400 – It’s hard to pass up a defenseman quarterbacking a top power-play unit for $3,400. Justin Schultz has 17 points in 29 games, albeit mostly of the apple variety “14”. Considering he helps correlate with the second line listed above “with Beniers and Eberle on the Seattle PP1”, he makes sense tonight.

Goalie

Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers – $8,100 – It’s painful for me to write about. However, the Islanders have simply put not been scoring many goals recently. There is some solid shutout win upside here. Prior to a road loss in Pittsburgh “3-2”, he had won six straight starts and the Rangers are -155 favorites.

12/22 NHL Best Bet

San Jose Sharks ML (+140) – DraftKings – 1 Unit – While we might be on the Minnesota top line, perhaps we will have the best of all worlds here. The Sharp Model is giving San Jose actual odds of -110 for 13.33% EV.

Following a couple of tiny slates tonight we get a huge one. Although for such a large slate, the vast majority of the games “8/12” kick off at main lock so you need to be ready! Everything you need to know and more can be found below. Aside from reading the article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning.

12/15 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Los Angeles Kings (+190) at Boston Bruins (-225)6 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh Penguins (-105) at Florida Panthers (-115)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (+170) at Carolina Hurricanes (-200)6 Projected Goal Total

Anaheim Ducks (+125) at Montreal Canadiens (-145)6 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-120) at New York Rangers (+100)6 Projected Goal Total

Philadelphia Flyers (+240) at New Jersey Devils (-285)6 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+265) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-320)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (-115) at Washington Capitals (-105)6 Projected Goal Total

Nashville Predators (+135) at Winnipeg Jets (-115)6 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (-205) at Chicago Blackhawks (+175)6 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (+155) at Colorado Avalanche (-180)6.5 Projected Goal Total

St. Louis Blues (+155) at Edmonton Oilers (-180)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay One “Brayden Point ($6,300), Nikita Kucherov ($8,100), Brandon Hagel ($5,200)

Right away my eyes shift to all of the 6.5 total matchups. For such a big slate, we only have four of the 12 games hitting that projected total. You do have a pair of late-night hammers in the Avs and Edmonton at -180 apiece. However, the Avs have been decimated by injuries and in regard to both of the aforementioned teams, I think you can get more for your money.

Tampa Bay One checks all the boxes. They will be featured in a 6.5 total game hosting the defensively “overall” hapless Columbus Blue Jackets. The Lightning are the slate’s biggest money line favorite by quite a lot coming in at -320. All three skaters are featured on the team’s top powerplay unit. This line has strong peripheral stats “the second highest SATF of any line so far this season. Finally, perhaps most importantly of all, they are moderately priced.

12/15 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Winnipeg One “Mark Scheifele ($6,600), Blake Wheeler ($5,500), Cole Perfetti ($4,600)”

To make it all work we need a second line to slip in that fits salary-wise. However, we do not want to skip out on quality; enter Winnipeg One.

The Jet’s top line has been racking up SATF over the last ten games, where they are third-best in the NHL in that span. The main cog to this line, Mark Scheifele, is coming off a hat trick so he is certainly feeling it. The opposing goaltender Juuse Saros has been much shakier this season than in the past and Winnipeg is a home favorite. If you use all of the players mentioned in the top two lines and Jake Allen “below”, it leaves an average of $3,150 per defenseman. If you’ve read this article before, well you already know the strategy regarding that position!

Defensemen and Goalie

Defensemen

Daniil Miromanov – Vegas – $2,700 – This man made an impression filling in due to injuries on Tuesday night. For now, he is a member of Vegas’s top power-play unit. He had a three-point night “a goal and two assists”. A must-play at this price in all formats.

Esa Lindell – Dallas $3,200 – He’s never been featured on power plays but has long been offensively apt. Lindell has been particularly feeling it lately. He has double-digit DraftKings points in four of his last six games between his offensive contributions and propensity to block shots. We would gladly take even ten points here at $3,200 and run with it.

Ben Hutton – Vegas – $3,100 – Another man to watch is Ben Hutton at $3,100 as he surprisingly quarterbacked the Vegas power play Monday night due to injuries. However, it seems Daniil Miromanov has supplanted him and his shortlived reign has ended.

Goalies

Jake Allen – Montreal – $7,400 – Since our favorite goaltender Conor Hellebuyck has let us down over the last two games let’s switch gears. Simply put, we need to save money on this slate. The Canadiens are -145 home favorites against the pathetic Ducks in a six total game. He is more of a tournament play than a cash play but has flashed some big upside in three of his last five starts.

Linus Ullmark – Boston – $8,400 – If you got that money and don’t know where to spend it, you can pay up here. Ullmark’s 1.83 GAA and .938 save % could hardly be better. The Bruins are rightly heavy home favorites at -225 but there should still be sufficient shot volume on the Kings’ end.

12/15 NHL Best Bet

Buffalo Sabres (+160) – DraftKings – 1 Unit – With all of Colorado’s injuries and poor recent form, the Sharp Bets NHL model shows a model money line of +105 for the Sabres. That represents a 26.83 EV%.
