8/9 DFS Pitching Cash Game Pitchers

Walker Buehler, LAD vs. ARI

DK ($11,500)   FD ($11,400)

Buehler is sneakily putting his hat in the ring for N.L. Cy Young and it’s a wonder why more people aren’t talking about this kid. If you take out one flaky start at Coors Field, Buehler is pitching to a 1.80 ERA and 0.78 WHIP while striking out 90 batters in 65.2 innings over his last 10 starts. Those are bonkers statistics and it’s even scarier when he’s at home. Since the beginning of last season, Buehler has a 2.30 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 rate at Dodger Stadium. Facing Arizona is simply a bonus, with Buehler allowing just four runs and 11 baserunners across 15 innings in his last two starts against the D’Backs while striking out 20 batters. That’s no surprise with Arizona ranked 16th in xwOBA and 18th in xSLG. Not to mention, Buehler enters this game as a –200 favorite with the Diamondbacks projected for fewer than four runs.

Julio Teheran, ATL at MIA

DK ($8,800)   FD ($9,000)

It’s strange to recommend Teheran as a cash game pitcher but I’ve been riding him all season when he faces the Marlins. In three starts against Miami this season, Teheran is pitching to a 0.00 ERA and 0.70 WHIP while striking out 15 batters in 18 innings of action. Yes, that’s three shutouts and it’s really no surprise when you consider this matchup. The Marlins currently rank bottom-three in runs scored, OBP, OPS, wOBAxwOBA, SLG and xSLG. That’s particularly scary considering this is arguably the best pitcher’s park in baseball.

8/9 DFS Pitching GPP Plays

Yu Darvish, CHC at CIN

DK ($9,200)   FD ($9,400)

I don’t want to toot my own horn but I posted this in our Slack channel on June 26.  —>Since then, Darvish has at least 42 FanDuel points in four of his last six starts while providing a 2.78 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in that span. More importantly, he has 68 Ks across his last 53.2 innings pitched, which is simply one of the best K rates in the Majors. That’s the guy that I’ve been waiting for all season long and we have to love this improved play in a matchup like this. Not only did the Reds get rid of Yasiel Puig and Scooter Gennett at the trade deadline, they also may be without Derek Dietrich (IL) for this game. That’s truly frightening when you consider that this lineup already ranks 22nd in runs scored, 23rd in OPS, 29th in xSLG and 26th in xwOBA.

Caleb Smith, MIA vs. ATL

DK ($10,000)   FD ($9,500)

Smith is actually a decent cash game play too, as he simply has some of the best stuff in the league. A 3,35 ERA and 1.05 WHIP speaks loudly but a 30.2 percent K rate is downright incredible. In addition, Smith has at least 6 Ks in 15 of his 18 starts this season, which is why he scored at least 30 FanDuel points in all 15 of those games. Getting to pitch in a spacious ballpark like Marlins Park should only help, with Smith generating a 2.66 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 11.4 K/9 rate at home this season. That totally limits the risk from this tough matchup and the implied run total of 4.1 for the Braves tells you that Vegas agrees with this assessment.

8/9 DFS Pitching Punt Plays

Brad Keller, KC at DET

DK ($8,000)   FD ($8,800)

I only call this a punt play because I anticipate Keller being one of the lowest owned pitchers on this slate. These numbers truly surprised me and Keller has established himself as the Royals best pitcher. A 3.95 ERA and 1.33 WHIP may look like nothing special but he’s really turned things around recently. Not only has Keller thrown at least 5.2 innings in six-straight starts, he’s also pitching to a 2.20 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in that span. He did that damage against good offenses like the Twins, Braves and Nationals, as he’ll get quite the cupcake matchup here. In fact, the Tigers rank 29th in xwOBA, 30th in wOBA, 29th in runs scored, 30th in OBP and 28th in K rate. That makes it no surprise that Keller threw eight one-run innings the last time he faced the Motor City Kitties on July 13 en route to a season-high 52 FanDuel points.

Cal Quantrill, SD vs. COL

DK ($6,200)   FD ($7,000)

The Rockies are just horrible right now. Losing 23 of their last 31 games says a lot and much of it has to do with their road offense. After ranking 29th in road OPS last season, Colorado finds themselves 25th in runs scored, 29th in OPS and 30th in OBP on the road this year. They also sit 23rd in K rate and they’re simply one of the best offenses to exploit outside of Coors Field. That’s big for an average arm like Quantrill, who’s actually in the best stretch of his career right now. A 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP for the season is impressive in its own right but he also has a 1.84 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over his last seven appearances. That’s all you can ask for from such a cheap pitcher in such a tasty matchup and the 4.2 implied run total for the Rockies only adds to Quantrill’s value.

Monkey Knife Fight Play of the Day

Brad Keller Over 4.5 Strikeouts

With the Tigers ranked bottom-two in runs scored, OPS, OBP, wOBA and xwOBA while sitting 28th in K rate, Keller should reach this prop at relative ease with his recent form.

Julio Teheran.Caleb Smith Over 11.5 Strikeouts Combined

This is self-explanaory after the previous write-ups, as either one of these guys could reach 7-8 Ks on their own.

We have a split MLB DFS slate today due to travel. Weather should not be an issue anywhere.

MLB DFS Upper-Tier Arms

Justin Verlander, Athletics at Astros ($11,000 FD, $12,100 DK): The perennial Cy Young award candidate, and this year is no different, gets a good match-up this afternoon. Verlander struck out 12 batters in six innings in his last start Friday night against the Rangers, throwing a season-high 116 pitches. He’s 7-1 with a 3.41 ERA against American League West opponents this year. If you are playing the early or all-day slate, Verlander needs to be your cash game option.

Shane Bieber, Indians at Blue Jays ($10,100 FD, $10,500 DK): Man oh man, the Indians have quite the threesome of starting pitchers right now. Monday night it was Mike Clevinger pitching a gem, last night it was Trevor Bauer’s gem that was wasted and now the Jays get a shot against Bieber. No wonder why the Indians have taken control of the wild card race and are closing the gap on the Twins. Bieber was not at his sharpest in his last start, allowing five runs on seven hits through 5 2/3 innings against the Royals on Friday. But he battled without his best stuff and kept his team in the game. In two career starts against the Blue Jays, Bieber is 1-0 with a 3.65 ERA with 15 strikeouts over 12 1/3 frames. Bieber is certainly a cash game option this evening.

MLB DFS Middle-Tier Arms

Noah Syndergaard, Padres at Mets ($10,000 FD, $10,000 DK): Thor has pitched two fantastic games in a row. Now he gets the Padres, who struggle against righties and on the road. This looks to be a showcase outing for Noah, because if the Padres are indeed interested in acquiring Syndergaard before the July 31 Trade Deadline, they’ll receive a first-hand look at him. Earlier this season, Syndergaard allowed five runs (four earned) in a Mets win in San Diego.

Julio Teheran, Royals at Braves ($8,400 FD, $8,000 DK): Teheran has been sharp the last month or so. Now he gets a juicy start against the Royals minus one of their best players in Adalberto Mondesi. Teheran was thrilled with the fastball command he possessed while pitching six strong innings against the Nationals on Friday. Ten of the first 19 two-seamers he threw resulted in a called strike.

MLB DFS Bargain Basement Arm:

Adam Wainwright, Cardinals at Pirates ($8,000 FD, $7,700 DK): Wainwright has turned back the clock to 2014 the last few starts. This is, of course, if you ignore his last start where he was knocked around for 10 runs. Pitching at PNC Park against a scuffling Pirates team might be just what the doctor ordered to get back on track.

Oh Saturdays how I love thee, and for DFS Pitching. We have an ace or two on the mound on this Saturday Funday. The crazy, split times of the games leads to some screwy DFS slates.

DFS Pitching Upper-Tier Arms

Aaron Nola, Nationals at Phillies ($10,300 FD, $10,300 DK): After a relatively slow start, he has rounded into the form that made him an NL Cy Young Award finalist last season. He is 2-1 with a 0.61 ERA over his past four starts, locating his fastball like he had in the past. As is his custom, he has been terrific at Citizens Bank Park this year. He has a 2.85 ERA at home as compared to 5.05 on the road. What makes this even more impressive is that Citizens Bank Park is an hitter’s park. This guy is an ace in the making and is on my short-list of cash DFS Pitching picks today.

Trevor Bauer, Twins at Indians ($10,500 FD, $10,800 DK): Bauer finished the first half strong, going 4-0 with a 2.90 ERA in his last six starts. With the Indians losing last night, look for this ace to feel some extra responsibility on his shoulders and and pitch a great game. Much like the other ace mentioned in Nola, this ace is a cash-game consideration in my DFS Pitching book.

DFS Pitching Middle-Tier Arms

Julio Teheran, Braves at Padres ($8,000 FD, $6,600 DK): That price on DK makes him an almost automatic SP 2. On FD, he is likely GPP-only for me as I like the upper-tier DFS Pitching arms better. Teheran’s struggles ended at the same time the first half did. Six scoreless innings against the Marlins on July 5th coincided with improved command of his fastball.

Brendan McKay, Rays at Orioles ($7,300 FD, $9,000 DK): Yikes, the difference in the DFS Pitching pricing certainly jumps out at you right away huh? McKay is a cash-game consideration for me on FD while GPP-only on DK with that price sticker. In two big league starts, McKay has given up just three runs and has allowed eight baserunners in 11 innings pitched. The two-way prospect is one of the jewels of the Rays’ organiation and has a world of talent so you might as well jump on him in the DFS world while he is still inexpensive.

DFS Pitching Bargain-Basement Arm

Zac Gallen, Mets at Marlins ($7,000 FD, $6,900 DK): This very talented youngster has command that far surpasses his youth. He knows how to pitch and spots he stuff well. The rookie right-hander, who is an ace in the making, makes his fourth big league start, and he seeks his first win. Helping his cause is the fact that the Mets are a complete mess right now. Gallen has logged 12 innings, and he has averaged 12 K/9 in a small sample size. A lengthy rain delay ended his outing after only 2 innings in his last start. He is a DFS Pitching GPP-only choice for me but with big upside considering his opponent and the park he is pitching in.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

Tommy Pham, Nate Lowe, Joey Wendle Hits on the Day

THANK YOU FOR READING. YOU CAN READ SOME OF MY OTHER WORK AND THOUGHTS ON MY AUTHOR PAGE. FOLLOW Win Daily DFS ON TWITTER @WinDailyDFS. PLEASE CHECK OUT EVERYTHING THAT Win Daily DFS HAS TO OFFER. NEW ARTICLES, STATISTICS AND DATA ARE BEING ADDED CONSTANTLY. ALSO, DO NOT FORGET TO LISTEN TO THE WIN DAILY PODCASTS!

How bold do you want to go here? Another reason I like McKay in this spot for DFS Pitching is that the Rays have a great chance to win the opening game of the doubleheader. Pham is a streaky hitter and is in the midst of a hot streak, Wendle has logged multiple hit games since returning from the injured list and Lowe is a highly-touted prospect with playing time. Look for at least four hits from this trio with six not out of the question against a bad bullpen and starter Aaron Brooks.

There are so many value Pitchers on this slate. How do we pick one?

There is a ton of pitching value on this slate to go with the aces up top like Jacob deGrom, Justin Verlander, and Clayton Kershaw. Jason suggests to try your best to avoid the top tier pitching and slide down to value plays like Julio Teheran, Eduardo Rodriguez, Masahiro Tanaka, Martin Perez, and Drew Pomeranz. So listen closely to the 7/5 MLB DFS Podcast to find the hidden gems on the Daily Fantasy Baseball schedule.

This will be my final DFS pitching article of the first half and it’s been a great first few months of the season. That’s evident by the fact that I’ve hit 13 of my last 21 MKF recommendations, despite losing my last two. So it’s time to bounce-back and start a new hot streak and I really feel like these pitchers will get us right back on track.

DFS Cash Game Pitchers

Justin Verlander, HOU vs. LAA

DK ($12,000)   FD ($11,000)

Is there any question that Verlander is the safest pitching option on the board? This Hall-of-Fame stud is in the midst of yet another brilliant season, pitching to a 2.86 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. That doesn’t even take into consideration his 34 percent K rate since the beginning of last season, as he’s clearly taking advantage of this swing-happy environment. Facing the Angels is a bit scary in terms of their elite K rate but their most potent bats happen to be righties like Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Albert Pujols. The only lefty bats that are scary are Tommy La Stella and Shohei Ohtani and La Stella just broke his leg.

JV has rolled through this lineup throughout his career too, generating a 3.10 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 26 starts against them while striking out more than a batter per inning. It’s also hard to argue with the fact that he enters this matchup as a –200 favorite.

Clayton Kershaw, LAD vs. SD

DK ($10,700)   FD ($10,200)

We rarely go with two cash game pitchers but both of these guys are fantastic options. Kershaw may actually be the most dependable player on the slate, as he’s established a ridiculous floor. In fact, Kershaw has at least 26 FanDuel points in all but one start this season, throwing at least six innings in all 14 starts. That’s an incredible floor and it’s really a cash game dream. It’s not empty innings either, with Kershaw pitching to a 3.23 ERA and 1.07 WHIP while striking out nearly a batter per inning.

Those trends paired with this superb matchup makes him tough to fade in cash games, with the Padres ranking 27th in K rate, 25th in OBP and 24th in xwOBA. If you look up ownership in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of Kershaw standing over the Padres’ limp bodies. The Dodgers lefty is pitching to a 2.02 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 36 starts against them while posting a K rate just shy of 30 percent.

DFS GPP Pitchers

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS at DET

DK ($8,700)   FD ($8,100)

I always include the pitcher facing the Tigers because they’re simply the worst offense in baseball. That’s evident by the fact that they rank 28th in xwOBA, last in wOBA and 29th in OPS, K rate and runs scored. That says a lot about the Motor City Kitties and they’ll likely enter this game very tired after playing three games in the last two days. Getting a superb matchup is all we can ask for with an inconsistent pitcher like E-Rod, as he’s got the capability to shut down any offense when he’s clicking.

We’re talking about a guy with a 4.23 career ERA and 4.01 FIP, which pairs beautifully with his 25 percent K rate since 2017. His one start against Detroit was a raving success this season too, allowing just one run across six innings while whiffing seven batters en route to 46 FanDuel points. Not to mention, Rodriguez enters this game as a projected –180 favorite.

Dylan Bundy, BAL at TOR

DK ($8,100)   FD ($7,600)

Alright, this one truly scares me to death but Bundy is the definition of a GPP pitcher. This is one of few guys who can record double-digit Ks and a major reason for that is because of this matchup. The Blue Jays currently rank 26th in wOBA, 21st in runs scored, 27th in OPS and 22nd in K rate. Those ugly strikeout numbers are what really makes Bundy an enticing option, with the Baltimore righty posting a 24.5 percent K rate since last season. He showed that sort of upside in his last game against Toronto, allowing two earned runs across 6.2 innings while striking out 11 Blue Jays. There’s also just as good of a chance that Bundy will get blown up across three innings though, so understand the risk before playing him.

DFS Cheap Pitchers of the Day

Julio Teheran, ATL vs. MIA

DK ($6,600)   FD ($7,500)

Recent results will not make you want to use Teheran but this guy was special for the first two months of the year. In fact, Teheran pitched to a 2.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over his first 15 starts which actually included two gems against these Marlins. In those two games, Teheran pitched 12 scoreless innings while allowing just seven baserunners. That’s really no surprise when you consider the fact that the Marlins rank last in wOBA, runs scored and OPS. That’s why Teheran enters this game as a –200 favorite, which is all you can ask for from a guy this cheap in such a stellar matchup.

Austin Voth, WSH vs. KC

DK ($7,700)   FD ($6,400)

This is certainly a risky DFS play but there are things to like about Voth. The first thing is his form, with the Nationals righty pitching to a 4.35 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over his first two starts. He also has 10 Ks across 10.1 innings and those are very good numbers from such a cheap player. It’s no fluke either, with Voth posting a 3.84 FIP at Triple-A since the beginning of last season. What really makes him attractive is this matchup, though, with the Royals ranking 23rd in runs scored, 24th in OPS, 27th in xSLG and 25th in both wOBA and xwOBA. Vegas likes Voth too, with Washington entering this game as a –190 favorite.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

Zack Greinke Over 5.5 Strikeouts

It’s very rare that I don’t use someone from my DFS write-ups but this prop really made my eyes light up when I saw it. We’re talking about a pitcher with a 2.90 ERA and 0.94 WHIP facing a Rockies offense that ranks dead-last in road OPS. That doesn’t even take into consideration that Greinke has a 24 percent K rate since 2016 while facing a Colorado team that ranks 25th in K rate this season.

DFS Winners

Drew Pomeranz ($6,300)

Drew Pomeranz had a solid DFS start against the Colorado Rockies last night. He picked up the loss but went five innings with two runs on five hits. He also had two walks and 11 strikeouts. The amount of Ks in five innings made Giants history.

Pomeranz’s DFS Outlook

Drew Pomeranz had a good game on the mound but the offense was blanked. His next scheduled start is Saturday against the Diamondbacks, who are a lesser hitting team than the Rockies. Consider Pomeranz on the next DFS slate.

Christian Walker ($3,800)

Christian Walker had a solid game last night, going 2-3 with a home run, three RBI, two runs and a walk. Look for the hot streak to continue into today’s game against the Dodgers.

Walker’s DFS Outlook

Walker has been the hottest hitter in baseball in the past week, going 11-24 with two homers and seven RBI. Walker should be a lock in all DFS slates, especially with the small price tag.

DFS Losers

Julio Teheran ($8,100)

Teheran struggled yesterday against the Chicago Cubs, going just four innings, and he gave up seven runs on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts. He picked up the loss as well. Teheran struggled but should be in your DFS lineups when he gets back on the mound.

Teheran’s DFS Outlook

Teheran did not have his stuff yesterday. His ERA rose to 3.94 after this outing and he picked up his sixth loss on the season. His next scheduled DFS start is Saturday against the New York Mets, who do not scare opposing pitchers.

Gary Sanchez ($5,600)

Gary Sanchez struggled at the plate last night, going hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts and he left four guys on base. He did draw a walk but that was the only positive production. He should get back to normal for DFS purposes during today’s game.

Sanchez’s DFS Outlook

Sanchez had an off-day at the plate but he has been really good in the past 30 games for DFS purposes. In that span he is 33-for-116 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI with 11 walks. With the production around Sanchez in the lineup, it is difficult to see him slumping for a decent length of time.

 DFS Injury Update

Jordan Hicks of the St. Louis Cardinals had a MRI reveal a torn right UCL. He and the team are determining the next steps.

Tyler Glasnow of the Tampa Bay Rays has been shut down for three weeks after feeling discomfort while throwing in Oakland.

Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers is progressing well from a left hamstring strain and claims to feel zero pain while walking.

Good afternoon everyone! For those not familiar, my name is Dan Wehr and I am a new author here at WinDailyDFS. This article will cover a game by game breakdown for the seven game main slate on Draftkings and Fanduel.

Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees

Over/Under: 10.5

Implied Run Total – TOR: 3.91 Runs

Implied Run Total – NYY: 6.63 Runs
