This race is 263-miles, or 500-laps on this 0.526-mile race track.

FRONTRUNNERS

Martin Truex Jr. – Truex won the fall 2019 race at Martinsville while leading 464-laps. Truex has the ability to win this race and capture a significant portion of laps led, if he has a performance similar to last fall.

We move to the Atlanta Motor Speedway this week for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. This is another 1.5 mile track than has held racing since 1960. Jimmie Johnson once again is the active driver who has had the most success here with 4 wins, tied with legends Richard Petty, Dales Earnhardt, and Bobby Labonte. Brad Keselowski is the only other driver with multiple wins, taking down 2 of the last three in 2017 and 2019.

Hendrick Motorsports leads all owners with 9 wins, followed closely by Joe Gibbs Racing with 7 wins in Atlanta. Neither though have won the last 3 years. Chevrolet leads with 23 wins over the 19 for Ford, but the latter has taken the last 3 races.

Owner Wins at Atlanta Motor Raceway

Hometown Chase Elliott hopes to improve off of his poor Truck Race effort. He is on the Pole with Aric Almirola next to him in the front row. Dominators Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin are also in the top 10. The early race to the lead could be a big factor in who dominates and wins DFS GPP’s.

Starting Grid for Atlanta

My top DFS plays at each price tier this week are listed below. I decided to just lock it in with 41 lineups and not mess with them Sunday AM.

NASCAR DFS High-Priced | DraftKings

  1. Brad Keselowski $8,900 (This price is a bit ridiculous – Should by over $10K)
  2. Jimmie Johnson $10,200
  3. Kevin Harvick $11,700

NASCAR DFS Mid-Tier | DraftKings

  1. Clint Bowyer $8,700
  2. Ryan Blaney $8,700
  3. Alex Bowman $9,100

NASCAR DFS Value Plays | DraftKings

  1. Michael McDowell $5,200
  2. Austin Dillon $6,400
  3. Brennan Poole $4,900

Here is my Driver Usage for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

Driver Usage for Sunday’s Race

I also like 5 plays to win the race. I like Clint Bowyer for the WIN, but the 4 other obviously are in the mix.

WIN Best on Sunday’s Race

I am again on some plays to finish in the Top 3, Top 5 and a couple of driver match ups. 3 units on Clint Bowyer and 1 unit on all other plays.

TOP 3 PICKS: Kurt Busch +500; Clint Bowyer +750

TOP 5 PICKS: Kurt Busch +275; Clint Bowyer +375; Austin Dillon +1100

Matchups: Clint Bowyer over Erik Jones -108; Austin Dillon -130 over Ryan Newman

Alsco 500 NASCAR DFS

The following DraftKings and FanDuel Alsco 500 NASCAR DFS picks are intended for GPP purposes only. Click here to join us in the #nascar Discord channel now! Follow Josh on twitter at @dfs_noshame.

THE SLATE

The 2020 Alsco Uniforms 500 is set to drop the green flag at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina tonight.

This 500-kilometer (approximately 312-miles) race will consist of 208 laps. The stages will be 55-laps, 60-laps, and 93-laps. This race will be official after 104 laps.

The race will be rescheduled for Thursday if rain prevents the race from occurring Wednesday night.

FRONTRUNNERS

NO. 19 – MARTIN TRUEX JR. (FD-$14,000; DK-$9,400; +450) – Truex is among the three favorites to take the checkered flag at this race. Truex offers some point differential upside starting 15th and has the speed and ability to win this race and capture laps led points; he finished 6th on Sunday, with 87-laps led and 56-fastest laps.

NO. 9 – CHASE ELLIOTT (FD-$13,000; DK-$9,700; +500) – Chase was well-positioned to take the checkered flag this past Sunday when a late caution led to a second-place finish. Chase finished Sunday’s race with 38-laps led and 50-fastest laps, and took first place in last night’s Truck Series race, the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS: KYLE BUSCH (FD-$13,700; DK-$10,500; +625; starts 12th), KEVIN HARVICK (FD-$12,300; DK-$9,200; +900; starts 16), DENNY HAMLIN (FD-$12,000; DK-$11,200; +1400; starts 29), JOEY LOGANO (FD-$11,000; DK-$8,900; +1000; starts 8), BRAD KESELOWSKI (FD-$11,600; DK-$10,000; +1100, starts 20).

NOTE: Be sure to include the race winner in your Alsco 500 NASCAR DFS lineup, and pass on rostering drivers that finish below their starting position.

NO. 88 – ALEX BOWMAN (FD-$12,200; DK-$8,700; +600) Bowman led an impressive 164-laps on Sunday, and recorded 52-fastest laps. Starting 12th, Bowman dominated much of the race only to finish 19th. Bowman has the speed and ability to win and dominate this race but faces increased negative place differential risk starting second.

NO. 24 – WILLIAM BYRON (FD-$10,700; DK-$8,500; +1200)Byron will be starting for the pole tonight after finishing 20th on Sunday with no laps led and 13-fastest laps. He is one of the best young drivers in the Cup Series but his high starting position increases the risk of a negative place differential.

Alsco 500 NASCAR DFS

CAPTURE THE UPSIDE

NO. 48 – JIMMIE JOHNSON (FD-$11,200; DK-$12,300; +1000) – Jimmie Johnson finished second on Sunday but failed the post-race tech inspection. resulting in a disqualification. Therefore, he will be starting 40th this evening. With minimal down-side risk and significant positive place differential upside, Johnson should be found in many lineups tonight. Make sure to try at least one build without Jimmie just in case he takes an early exit. Jimmie’s last Cup Series win was in June 2017.

NO. 14 – CLINT BOWYER (FD-$9,000; DK-$11,800; +6600) – Bowyer crashed hard into the wall Sunday, and therefore, will be starting 39th. Bowyer offers significant positive place differential upside and should garner ownership on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Consider getting at least one build without Bowyer just in case he decides to take another hard right turn.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS: MATT KENSETH (FD-$7,600, DK-$8,100; +3500; starts 26th), BUBBA WALLACE (FD-$5,000; DK-$8,300; +55000; starts 38th).

SECOND-TIER STUDS

The following drivers do not have the most attractive starting positions but do have the ability to move up during the race and provide value if they do so: RYAN NEWMAN (FD-$7,000; DK-$7,500; +12500; starts 27th), KURT BUSCH (FD-$10,000; DK-$9,000; +1800; starts 14th), ERIK JONES (FD-$9,500; DK-$7,800; +1500; starts 10th), RYAN BLANEY (FD-$10,400; DK-$7,800; +1500; starts 18th), and TYLER REDDICK (FD-$8,000; DK-$7,600; +3500; starts 13th).

Alsco 500 NASCAR DFS

STARTING TOO HIGH

The following drivers may be starting a little too high and face risk of negative place differential: Reed Sorenson, Michael McDowell, John Hunter Nemechek, Cole Custer, Matt Benedetto, Austin Dillon (see note below), and Corey LaJoie.

NOTE: Austin Dillon does have the potential to finish top-6 and have a strong performance. Starting 7th increases his risk of negative place differential though.

NON-LEAD LAPPERS

The following drivers have not finished on the lead lap during the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season: Timmy Hill, Quin Houff, Gray Gaulding, Joey Gase, Josh Bilicki, and J.J. Yeley (with exception for the Fan Shield 500).

NOTE: Avoid rostering drivers that will not finish on the lead lap.

JMO’S DRAFTKINGS FAVORITES

Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman, Ryan Blaney, Erik Jones, Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, Jimmie Johnson.

JMO’S FANDUEL FAVORITES

Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman, Ryan Blaney, Erik Jones, Tyler Reddick, Jimmie Johnson.

This article is going to be a little bit different, seeing as usually the qualifier race is held a day or two before the primary race. For the Coca-Cola 600, the qualifier is being held at 2 pm eastern time on the day of the actual race. With these particular circumstances, and not knowing the starting positions of the drivers, the possibility of drivers increasing or decreasing value is high. I recommend tuning into the Win Daily discord to stay up to date with the upcoming driver starting positions. My article is going to focus on my top three targets for both cash games and GPP’s. I will have a primary focus on DraftKings. Towards the end of the article, I will have a separate section for SuperDraft. The Coca-Cola 600 race starts at 6 pm eastern time, which gives us plenty of time to build a profitable NASCAR DFS lineup on multiple DFS sites.

#1 TARGET: MARTIN TRUEX JR (+550) (10,600).

Toyota cars have been crushing the Coca-Cola 600 the previous years. One of the fastest Toyotas has no doubt been the number 19 car of Truex JR. Even though he didn’t take down any part of the doubleheader at Darlington, he definitely made his presence known and bagged two top-ten finishes (6th and 10th). Charlotte Motor Speedway has been Martin Truex JR’s personal stomping ground. Finishing first and second the previous two years. In 2016 he showed that he’s here to dismantle the field with a victory and dominated 392 out of the 400 laps. Truex has a 50% win rate at Charlotte, yes I said 50%. Out of his last six races at Charlotte Motor Speedway he has claimed the crown three times, that is an unbelievable feat. Martin Truex JR is my clear cut, number one, overall play coming into this race, looking for his second win in a row and fourth first-place finish in seven years. He will be in over 50% of my NASCAR DFS lineups, and there should be no reason that he’s not in yours.

#2 TARGET: KYLE BUSCH (+450) (11,500).

We all just saw Kyle Busch fly through Darlington with his number 18 car to a second-place finish, but not without some drama. He is forever going to be known for his ” I made a mistake” moment that caused Chase Elliot’s car to be spun around and out of the race. It may be challenging to pick Busch for the win here, considering Elliot could be out for blood. Putting that all behind us and focusing on the facts here. Like Truex, Busch has been a dominating factor at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In the previous two years, KB has pumped out a third-place finish (2019) and a First place dominating performance (2018), where he led 377 out of 400 laps. If Kyle Busch can find his way around Truex and now Elliot, he could be added to the list of repeat winners at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I will be rolling out Kyle Busch in about 50% of my NASCAR DFS lineups.

#3 TARGET: JIMMIE JOHNSON (+1200) (9,200).

What more can we say about Jimmie Johnson except that he is well on his way, if not already legendary status? Over Johnsons Career, he has EIGHT wins at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with his most recent coming in 2016. He has been a force at Charlotte over the years, with an average starting position of 19.3 and an average finish position of 9.3. Looking at the potential for place differential and gaining a minimum of ten spots, he is another lock and load for my NASCAR DFS lineups.

HONORABLE MENTION:

KEVIN HARVICK (11,200)

CHASE ELLIOT (9700)

ALEX BOWMAN (9,400)

RICKY STENHOUSE JR (7400)

AUSTIN DILLON (7000)

COREY LAJOIE (5400)

SUPERDRAFT PICKS: IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE.

MARTIN TRUEX JR (1.2X)
KULE BUSCH (1.15X)
JIMMIE JOHNSON (1.5X)
COREY LAJOIE (2.1X)
AUSTIN DILLON (1.7X)
TYLER REDDICK (1.9X)
KEVIN HARVICK (1.2X)
CHASE ELLIOT (1.1X)
ALEX BOWMAN (1.35X)
RICKY STENHOUSE JR (1.4X)
ARIC ALMIROLA (1.45X)

I will be building 10 NASCAR DFS lineups for both DraftKings and SuperDraft. I recommend playing multiple lineups, if possible. The variance in NASCAR is high, and multiple lineups can help you fade some of that variance and give you a better chance to win big money. I am going to focus on my top three targets and try to fit as many of them in my lineups as possible. I will be using the honorable mention drivers to fill in the gaps with the available salary. On DraftKings, I will have a bigger player pool because of the salary cap. On SuperDraft, my player pool will be limited to ONLY my favorite drivers who I see having the best chance to hit value. Good Luck, and don’t forget to come back and Win Daily!

The following analysis, DraftKings NASCAR DFS Picks, is intended for DraftKings NASCAR DFS GPP purposes only (Toyota 500 at Darlington – May 20, 2020). The projections below include the official starting positions for each driver.

THE PICKS

JIMMIE JOHNSON ($9,100) – Johnson got to the front of the pack on Sunday, before crashing, and landing him in the 37th starting position for Wednesday. Johnson is projected to finish 12th, and provides significant positive place differential upside. Given the upside, it appears Johnson may be quite chalky, but go ahead and eat the chalk, and move on to your next driver selection.

WILLIAM BYRON ($8,900) – Bryon also found himself in trouble on Sunday, ending his day early, and securing the 34th start position for the Toyota 500. If Byron can remember this is not an iRace, settle in, and log some solid long-run laps – he can provide excellent positive place differential upside. Along with Johnson, Byron will most likely find his way into a lot of line ups Wednesday.

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. ($7,900) – Wrecky Ricky did not make it through the first lap before he ended up in the wall on Sunday, landing him in the 39th start position for the Toyota 500. With minimal downside risk and significant positive place differential upside, it appears Ricky could make it into a lot of lineups for this slate.

KEVIN HARVICK ($11,600) – Harvick won The Real Heroes 400 at Darlington Raceway this past Sunday, landing him in the 20th position to start the Toyota 500. Harvick had the best car on Wednesday, is the favorite to win on Sunday, provides positive place differential upside, and has the ability to lead laps. Plug Harvick in and watch him roll to a victory.

JOEY LOGANO ($9,400) – Logano has a shot at taking the checkered flag every time he fires up the engine. Logano will be starting 3rd with Ty Dillon and Ryan Preece in front of him, giving him a clear path to clean air and laps led. If Logano grabs a bunch of laps led, and finishes in the top five, he will be a great play.

KYLE BUSCH ($12,000) – Kyle Busch is the most expensive driver on the slate; starting 26th and projected to finish second, he’s well-positioned to provide positive place differential points. If you believe Kyle will lead a significant portion of laps, he’s a fine play.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

Alex Bowman, Kurt Busch, Erik Jones, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Cole Custer, Christopher Bell, Daniel Suarez

Last Week’s NASCAR Auto Club 400 was a step in the right direction as we made a slight profit. Alex Bowman won the race with the best car. Unfortunately, much of the chalk hit, so winning any big money was difficult with a number of ties at the top. This week’s FanShield 500 at Phoenix should be a bit different, with opportunities to have some lineup diversity.

The 48th running of this race, over the 1-mile tri-oval track, will have 3 stages and 312 laps as Stage 1 is set to end at Lap 75, and Stage 2 Lap 190. Joe Gibbs Racing has dominated recently winning four of the last five Phoenix races, leading the most laps in each of the last six races (He has Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Truex Jr., and Jones this year) Many drivers have won multiple times on this surface including Kevin Harvick 9 (Five FanShield 500’s), Jimmie Johnson 4, Kyle Busch 3, and Denny Hamlin 2. Joey Logano and Kurt Busch have also won here before.

FanShield 500 Stats

Chase Elliott shined in Friday’s practice sessions finishing 2nd early and 1st in the late session. Many drivers showed well in both finishing in the top 10 of each including William Byron, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, and Erik Jones.

Chase Elliot continued his weekend dominance in Phoenix also taking down the Pole in Saturday’s qualifying. His performance is much like what Bowman did last week and is hard to ignore in DFS and Win betting. Phoenix dominator Kevin Harvick joins Elliott in the first row. Hamlin, Larson, a Blaney round out the top 5.

Last year’s winner Kyle Busch will start in 10th and will have other top drives right behind him including Logano 13th, Keselowski 14th, Jimmie Johnson 21st. Martin Truex Jr. who qualified 12th will start the race in the rear due to an engine change.

My top DFS plays at each price tier this week are listed below. I am leaning on those who have had success at this track and showed speed in practice and qualifying. Those qualifying at the rear will be avoided as they will go down multiple laps quickly with little chance to make a top 15 run. My final Driver Usage will be posted on Twitter Sunday.

NASCAR DFS High-Priced

  1. Kevin Harvick $11,00
  2. Kyle Busch $12,000
  3. Brad Keselowski $10,400

NASCAR DFS Mid-Tier

  1. Chase Elliott $9.600
  2. William Byron $8,300
  3. Erik Jones $8,500

NASCAR DFS Value Plays

  1. Christopher Bell $6,500
  2. Kurt Busch $8,100
  3. Bubba Wallace $6,000

I also like 6 plays on DraftKings Sports Book to win the race. I am again riding Kyle Busch as my pick to win this week, but Kevin Harvick can never be ignored.

The NASCAR Pennzoil 400 last week again did not break the bank even though I threw a ton of lineups at it. Many DFS cashes, but not the one perfect lineup needed to make serious cash. This week, we head to Fontana, California for the 24th Auto Club 400. Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson have won here three times each. No one else in this year’s field has won multiple times, but Kurt Busch, Keselowski, Truex Jr., Harvick, and Larson have each taken the checkered flag at this event. Roush Fenway leads at Fontana with 6 wins and the manufacturer Ford has 10 victories, but neither have dominated the event.

Alex Bowman dominated Friday as he led both practice sessions showing very good speed. Kurt Busch also did very well with the 4th best speed in each session. Kyle Larson, Matt DiBenedetto, Ryan Blaney, and Brad Keselowski also were able to gain the top 10 speed in each session. Rookies Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick also showed some promising speed as well as. I think both of these new drivers will win this season.

Qualifying Saturday was lead by Clint Bowyer who took the pole with a speed of 179,614 mph. Multiple time winner Jimmie Johnson will join Bowyer in the front row followed by Alex Bowman, who dominated practice, and Kurt Busch who will be in row #2. Other notables in qualifying include Keselowski in 15th, Kyle Busch in 17th, Hamlin in 28th, and Martin Truex Jr. who will start in the rear of the field in 38th after having troubles with pre-qualifying inspections.

Martin Truex Jr. is going to be hard to pass up with all of those points available for position differential. I am still riding Kyle Busch for the win, but Alex Bowman’s performance so far this week is hard to ignore. While I will fade him to win with his low odds, I will play him a bit in DFS as a potential dominator.

My top DFS plays at each price tier this week are listed below. My mix of players with huge position differential possibilities and those who could dominate the race will hopefully get me the coverage needed. I will be working my DFS lineups late into the night Saturday and will post on twitter and discord my driver usage early Sunday. I will be playing far fewer lineups this week, but have not yet landed on a specific number.

NASCAR DFS High-Priced

  1. Kyle Busch $11,300
  2. Martin Truex Jr. $10,400
  3. Kevin Harvick $11,600

NASCAR DFS Mid-Tier

  1. Alex Bowman $8,800
  2. Aric Almirola $8,300
  3. Kurt Busch $8,600

NASCAR DFS Value Plays

  1. Christopher Bell $7,000
  2. Matt DiBenedetto $7,600
  3. Bubba Wallace $6,100

I also like 5 plays on DraftKings Sports Book to win the race. I am a bit more chalky this week with 3 of my pick being in the top 5 in odds. Kyle Busch to my pick to win this week.

The NASCAR Daytona 500 did not go exactly to plan, as avoiding the “Big One” is very difficult. At times, I was up 4x-5x, but I ended up slightly down after those last 2 crashes. I probably should have play 150 plus lineups. Hamlin had the best car and deserved the win.

NASCAR heads to Las Vegas for the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube. This is a 1.5 mile oval that is running this race for the 23rd time. Jimmie Johnson has won this race 4 times, which is two more than Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick who are the only other multiple winners. Joey Logano won last year’s edition and is joined by Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch as the other one-time winners in this year’s field. Keselowski and Truex Jr. also have won on this track in the South Point 400 run in September the last two years.

The practice sessions heading into qualifying were interesting as 2 Ford’s driven by Aric Almirola and Clint Bowyer was in the top three of both sessions. Jimmie Johnson led the 2nd practice with a speed of 179.432 which topped the day. Bowman, DiBenedetto, Larson, and Blaney were the others who were in the top 10 of both sessions. Ross Chastain also looked good driving the #6 to a 6th place finish in session #2 replacing Ryan Newman.

Saturday’s qualifying was canceled due to rain which put Kyle Busch on the pole followed by Truex Jr., Harvick, and Hamlin in the first 2 rows. All the power players on top leaves values play at a minimum. I will lean on those who did well in practice or have had decent success in Las Vegas. Kyle Busch, Hamlin, and Bell will start from the back of the field but will be scored on their starting position. This makes them difficult plays unless you’re looking to be contrarian.

Starting Grid

My top DFS plays at each price tier this week are listed below. I was very torn on how strong to play my top picks. I decided to play hard on those I thought could dominate in laps led and position differential.

NASCAR DFS High-Priced

  1. Kevin Harvick $12,000
  2. Brad Keselowski $11,100
  3. Martin Truex Jr. $11,600

NASCAR DFS Mid-Tier

  1. Clint Bowyer $8,000
  2. Aric Almirola $7,800
  3. Jimmie Johnson $8,400

NASCAR DFS Value Plays

  1. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. $7,600
  2. Daniel Suarez $6,000
  3. Ross Chastain $6,100

I am working on all of my lineups currently and will be posting these on twitter either later tonight or early Sunday AM on twitter.

I also like 7 plays on DraftKings Sports Book to win the race. My #1 pick would be Clint Bowyer at 25/1, but I think there is value with the other plays too.

The 2020 NASCAR season is finally here. The 2 Bluegreen Vacations Duels At DAYTONA are on tap for Thursday to complete the field for the 62nd Daytona 500 this Sunday. Denny Hamlin took home the trophy last season, and for the 2nd time in 4 years. Jimmie Johnson is the only other driver in the field with multiple wins in this event. While starting position is nice to have for DFS, I will always lean towards talent starting at the back of the field.

This is my favorite race of the year, as I have taken home huge wins in the past with unlikely winners including Trevor Bayne and Austin Dillon. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the pole for Sunday’s race and leads a slew of driver racing for new teams.

My top DraftKings DFS plays going into this weekend are below. I may tweak them a bit once the final starting grid comes out, but I am fairly confident in these choices at this point. Other than maybe Stenhouse Jr. at the top, the qualifying was not too surprising as 4 Chevrolets were at the top. Erik Jones took down the Busch Clash last Weekend and finished 10th in qualifying.

I will be updating my plays, including my DFS driver usage, on Saturday.

NASCAR DFS High-Priced

  1. Kyle Busch $9,800
  2. Denny Hamlin $10,400
  3. Joey Logano $10,500

Mid-Tier

  1. Erik Jones $7,900
  2. Matt DiBenedetto $7,800
  3. Jimmie Johnson $8,200

Value Plays

  1. Christopher Bell $6,700
  2. Tyler Reddick $6,400
  3. Chris Buescher $7,100
Qualifying for the Daytona 500

I have also chosen 5 NASCAR plays that I think have good value to win on DraftKings. While I think a big odds win is not probable, I am always willing to take some shots. Make sure you always shop around as most of the good odds this week are on FanDuel, not DraftKings.

  1. Kyle Busch 10/1 (13/1 on FanDuel) $250
  2. Jimmie Johnson 20/1 (22/1 on FanDuel) $100
  3. Christopher Bell 33/1 (42/1 on FanDuel) $100
  4. Erick Jones 25/1 $100
  5. Bubba Wallace 50/1 (70/1 on FanDuel) $50
