Welcome back to a brand new edition of WinDaily’s NHL Between the Benches article. The hockey season has truly been getting underway, although there may be some surprises left in store, teams are beginning to set the tone for their season. We got a nice six-gamer tonight with lots of top teams in play. Tonight’s 11/10 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

11/10 NHL Stack Report

1. Vegas Golden Knights 1 (Barbashev-Eichel-Marchessault)

— The Vegas Golden Knights started the season at an insane pace and as of right now have only lost 2 games in regulation to start the season placing them in 1st place in the Western Conference. At the polar opposite of the Western conference sit the League’s worst team thus far, the San Jose Sharks. It is true that the Sharks are on a two game winning streak and the Knights are on a two game losing streak but it is clear both streaks end tonight. San Jose are still without their best player Logan Couture and the Sharks two wins are deceiving as they both came against significantly underperforming teams in the Philadelphia Flyers and the Edmonton Oilers. The Knight’s top line is led by former first-overall pick Jack Eichel who has registered a point-per-game thus far this season with his linemates Marchessault (9) and Barbarshev (5) not far behind. This line is not the most expensive on the slate but does have one of the highest upsides with the highest implied total of the slate (by far) at 4.7.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Alex Pietrangelo

2. Florida Panthers 1 (Reinhart-Barkov-Rodrigues)

— I like Florida’s top line in this spot for many reasons. Firstly, this line sees a massive amount of ice-time every game, with each player seeing around 20 minutes of ice-time a game and they are scoring like it’s rookie hockey. Secondly, they are facing off against a Canes side who is expected to start a third-string goalie (Kotchekov) who has struggled a lot this season with an 0-3-0 record, a 4.31 GAA and a .836 Save Percentage. This may come in as an underowned stack, with all the big lines playing tonight but I think there is good value here, especially if they do not get a lot of ownership. This season, the Panthers have many offensive threats up and down their lines. However, their top line is far and away their most dangerous. All three top liners will see power play time tonight with Reinhart and Barkov on the top power play unit, and Rodrigues on the second power play unit.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Honorable Mention(s): Gustav Forsling)

Honorable Mention(s): Minnesota Wild 1 (Kaprizov-Rossi-Boldy), Anaheim Ducks 2 (Vatrano-McTavish-Strome)

11/10 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Sergei Bobrovski
  2. Logan Thompson
Honorable Mention(s): Joseph Woll, Filip Gustavsson

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Kappo Kahkonen
Honorable Mention(s): Pyotr Kotchetkov

11/10 NHL Wild Card Targets

Matthew Knies
– Knies has been given a huge upgrade on the Toronto Maple Leafs top line, playing alongside all-stars Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews (current league leader in Goals). Despite a bit of a rocky start, the Leafs have been scoring lots of goals every game and are coming into tonight against one of the worst defensive teams in the league, the Calgary Flames, who have struggled mightily with their goaltending situation this season. Knies is a nice value piece that can help you afford another piece in the stack or help build your lines with a cheap top line one off.

Honorable Mention(s): Alex Tuch (might be injured), William Karlsson-Pavel Dorofeyev (mini stack), Anton Lundell, William Nylander

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Auston Matthews

Winger Sam Reinhart

Defenseman – Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky

Tonight we have a fairly large 10 game slate with a LOT of options. There will be many places to look tonight, but that means that ownership will be very spread out and almost irrelevant. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Semyon Varlamov – New York Islanders: Varlamov is surprisingly cheap, so don’t be surprised if he comes in a little higher owned. This is a solid matchup for him and the Isles. The numbers are great for Varly, so he is absolutely in play tonight.

Jonathan Quick – New York Rangers: The Rangers host the Red Wings tonight in what should be a winnable game for them. Quick has some very solid numbers so far this season, and he should be able to carry that tonight.

Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues: This is merely a hot-hand play, since Binny is playing really well of late. He gets a matchup against the Jets tonight which is a solid one.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Lukas Dostal – Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks host the Penguins tonight, and Anaheim has been playing really well of late. Dostal should see a lot of shots on home ice, so he has some upside tonight and will be very low owned. There is definite risk here, so reserve this play for your deeper GPPs. Jake Allen is a possibility in this slot as well, as he gets the Lightning at home in the second leg of a back to back. Just make sure he is starting, and don’t play him in the same lineup as Tampa.

Others to Consider: Juuse Saros (NSH), Connor Hellebuyck (WPG), Connor Ingram (ARI)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Tampa Bay Lightning Power Play – Brayden Point/Nick Paul/Steven Stamkos/Nikita Kucherov/Victor Hedman: This unit absolutely went off last night against Toronto, and tonight, they get a matchup against a bottom-10 PK for a team that takes the second most penalties in the league. Roll these guys with confidence.

Philadelphia Flyers Power Play – Sean Couturier/Bobby Brink/Cam Atkinson/Travis Konecny/Travis Sanheim: Well…there’s no two ways about it. The Sharks are very, very bad. This unit should have plenty of chances, and there is a risk of spread out scoring. But this is one of the best plays on the board tonight in what should be a very high high scoring game. Bad goalies, bad defense, this one should be interesting.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Anaheim Ducks 2 – Mason McTavish/Ryan Strome/Frank Vatrano: This line has a decent matchup on paper tonight and have been performing well of late. They should see a bunch of the second line for the Pens in a plus matchup.

Arizona Coyotes 1 – Barrett Hayton/Clayton Keller/Nick Schmaltz: This top line will mostly see the second line for the Kraken in a nice plus matchup. They have been surprisingly good to start the year, and tonight is a good spot to go here.

Carolina Hurricanes 3 – Jordan Staal/Jordan Martinook/Jesper Fast: CAR3 at home – it’s always a thing, since they hard match this line to the opposing top line. That sets them up for a nice night tonight, as they will get a bunch of ice time against the Thompson line in a decent looking matchup.

Nashville Predators 1 – Ryan O’Reilly/Filip Forsberg/Gustav Nyquist/Roman Josi: This is a matchup that should fly under the radar tonight, but this is a fantastic matchup on paper. They should match up primarily with the top line for the Flames, who are giving up a ton of chances in a small sample.

New York Islanders 2 – Brock Nelson/Pierre Engvall/Kyle Palmieri: This line has a really nice matchup against the third line for Minnesota, and they should see plenty of chances tonight.

Welcome back to a brand new edition of WinDaily’s NHL Between the Benches article. After yesterday’s massive twelve-game slate, we are back with a small Friday night two-gamer! Tonight’s 11/3 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

11/3 NHL Stack Report

1. New Jersey Devils 1 (Toffoli-Hughes-Meier)

— It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that we’ll have to turn again to the second-hottest offensive team in the league for tonight’s two-game slate. This team’s top core is regularly scoring over four goals a game, and they would be close to if not the best, offence in the league if the Canucks didn’t stomp the San Jose Sharks 10-1 last night. All this to say that the Devils’ scoring pace to start the season has been incredible, especially with the production out of this top line. Jack Hughes is averaging over two points per game this season with over 20 minutes of ice time, and his linemates, Toffoli and Meier, are hovering around a point per game through their first nine games of the season. Against a regular NHL team, I’d have a lot of faith in the Devils. Tonight, they are up against a Blues team that allows nearly 33 shots on goal per game and is in the middle of a two-game losing streak. For their part, the Devils are coming into the night with a 3.7 implied goal total, and it’s hard to see Luke Hughes not getting on the score sheet tonight. Hughes will centre the Devils’ top power play alongside his brother Luke Hughes, his linemates Toffoli and Meier, as well as Jesper Bratt. Everyone on the Devils’ top power play unit are in play for me tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Dougie Hamilton (Honorable Mention(s): Luke Hughes)

2. Buffalo Sabres 1 (Biro-Thompson-Greenway)

— The Sabres are surprisingly the top team on this slate. Despite a mediocre start to the season. They have had some shining stars on offence, including the likes of Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin. Tonight, they are on the second half of a home-and-away where they’ll be taking on the Philadelphia Flyers in Buffalo after beating them 5-2 in their last game. Thompson has been on fire as of late, with four goals and four assists over his last four games. Including a goal and two assists in their beat down on the Flyers last game. Although both these teams sit in the middle of the pack in the league. The Flyers have some significant injuries (their top centre, Couturier and their top goalie, Hart) and are in the middle of a three-game losing skid. The Sabres, on the other hand, have had some success as of late and are coming into today’s slate with the highest implied total at 3.8 implied goals and the best odds at -170.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Rasmus Dahlin (Honorable Mention(s): Mattias Samuelson)

Honorable Mention(s): Philadelphia Flyers 1 (Atkinson-Laughton[May Change]-Tippett), Buffalo Sabres 2 (Peterka-Middlestadt-Skinner)

11/3 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
  2. Akira Schmid
    Honorable Mention(s): Samuel Ersson

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Jordan Binnington
Honorable Mention(s): N/A

11/3 NHL Wild Card Targets

Brandon Biro
– In his NHL debut last game in Philadelphia, Biro got a surprise start on the Sabres first line. With only ten minutes of ice time, he was able to make an instant impact on the game, scoring in the first period to take the lead then again in the empty net to seal the deal. He is set to rejoin the Sabres’ top line tonight against the Flyers for the second half of the back-to-back in Buffalo, and at his price, top-line minutes alongside Tage Thompson make Biro an exciting option for tonight’s two-game slate.

Honorable Mention(s): Justin Faulk, Erik Haula

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Jack Hughes

Winger Tyler Toffoli

Defenseman – Luke Hughes

Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen

Monday brings us a fairly large nine game slate with a lot of options. Monday slates tend to be a little smaller, but with tomorrow being Halloween, they chose to make tonight the bigger of the early week. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Linus Ullmark – Boston Bruins: This is a very solid upside matchup tonight for Ullmark on home ice against the Panthers. This carries some risk, but Florida is scoring just 2.2 goals per game through their last five.

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: This is considered a somewhat safe pick, as the Stars should handle the Blue Jackets at home tonight. Keep this one reserved for cash and single entry tournaments.

John Gibson – Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks head to Pittsburgh tonight to face the Penguins in what should be an interesting game. The Pens have been poor over their last five, and giving up a bunch of chances, so there is a legitimate chance for a surprise win tonight. The shot upside will be there as well.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Carter Hart – Philadelphia Flyers: The Flyers are supposed to stink, but have been playing decent hockey to start this season. Tonight, they get the Carolina Hurricanes in Philly. The Canes love to fire off low danger shots, so this is a nice upside spot with a bunch of risk.

Others to Consider: Adin Hill (VGK), Connor Hellebuyck (WPG)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars 1 – Roope Hintz/Jason Robertson/Joe Pavelski/Miro Heiskanen: The Stars host Columbus tonight, and this is a great spot for some offensive upside. They won’t really be hard matching any particular line, but Columbus is not exactly a defensive juggernaut, surrendering the 13th worst HDCA/60 as a team.

Vegas Golden Knights Power Play – Jack Eichel/Chandler Stephenson/Mark Stone/Jonathan Marchessault/Shea Theodore: The Knights host the Canadiens tonight, and Montreal has taken the most penalties per game so far this season. This power play unit should be able to take advantage of that and put a couple on the board.

Tampa Bay Lightning 2 – Nick Paul/Steven Stamkos/Brandon Hagel: This line should match the top line for Seattle tonight in a great matchup. Tampa 1 should carry some ownership, so this line is a great leverage spot and has a better matchup on paper than the top line.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Anaheim Ducks 2 – Mason McTavish/Ryan Strome/Frank Vatrano: This is a really interesting spot for the Ducks tonight, as they should face the Malkin line for a majority of the night. These guys will carry little to no ownership and are in a good enough spot to have a bunch of upside.

Florida Panthers 2 – Eetu Luostarinen/Matthew Tkachuk/Carter Verhaeghe: This line is in an interesting spot against the Bruins tonight. If you don’t trust Ullmark, you can definitely roll these guys.

Philadelphia Flyers 3 – Noah Cates/Bobby Brink/Joel Farabee: This line is in a good spot against the second line for the Hurricanes tonight. They provide a ton of value and should have some chances.

Detroit Red Wings 1 – Dylan Larkin/Lucas Raymond/Alex Debrincat/Mo Seider: The Red Wings’ top line should sneak under the radar tonight but has a very, very juicy matchup with the top Islander line. There is risk here because Sorokin is solid, but this is a great place to look for deep GPP.

Welcome back to WinDaily’s NHL Between the Benches article. We’ve had an excellent start to the season, and it’ll keep getting better! Tonight’s 10/27 NHL slate begins at 6:00 pm ET, and we have six games taking place. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

10/27 NHL Stack Report

1. Carolina Hurricanes 2 (Bunting-Kotkaniemi-Necas)

— To begin the article, we have, far and away, the strongest offensive team on the slate. With the talent on their top two lines facing off at home against a team that has not won a game this season, played last night in a 6-0 loss on the road in Tampa and has lost by the Puck Line (-1.5) or more over their last five games. San Jose is in for a rough season, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better tonight in what is the most lop-sided game on the slate. Moreover, the Canes and Sharks have already played each other this season in California, where the Sharks blew a 3-2 lead with four unanswered third-period goals. (at that was against their starter, Mackenzie Blackwood). With this info, it should come as no surprise that the Hurricanes have the best odds of the slate (-400) and the highest implied goal total (4.4). Although I will have shares of both of Carolina’s top two lines tonight, Carolina’s second line has actually been outperforming their top line, with Necas and Kotkanemi exploding with nine points in eight games to start the season. Despite early power play struggles, Necas and Bunting will see lots of Power Play time on Carolina’s top unit alongside Tony DeAngelo, while Kotkaniemi is centring the Canes’ second unit.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Tony DeAngelo (Honorable Mention(s): Jaccob Slavin)

2. New Jersey Devils 1 (Toffoli-Hughes-Meier)

— Unsurprisingly, the New Jersey Devils find themselves in a top spot on tonight’s slate as the high-powered offence faces off against a Sabres team that has had defensive problems for years. New Jersey has a lot to look forward to in the present and the future, with one of the league’s top stars breaking out this season. In just six games, Jack Hughes has notched 17 points (4 goals, 13 assists) and has averaged over 22 minutes of ice time per game. Paired alongside strong supportive talents in Tyler Toffoli and Timo Meier, this line is simply too much for teams to handle, especially considering the defensive woes of the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is allowing just over three goals per game and over 30 shots per game. Even if they had one of the league’s best goaltenders, the amount of pressure the defence leaves for the goalie to handle on their own is often too much.

With both teams having heavy firepower on offence, I can see this game hitting the over very easily but at the end of the day, the Devils are far more reliable on the back end, and their offensive pressure will be too much for Eric Comrie tonight. They have the second-highest implied total of the slate for a reason (4.1). Despite the price, I recommend paying up for New Jersey’s top line.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Dougie Hamilton (Honorable Mention(s): Luke Hughes)

Honorable Mention(s): Vancouver Canucks 1 (Kuzimenko-Petterson-Mikheyev)

10/27 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Adin Hill
  2. Karel Vejmelka
Honorable Mention(s): Thatcher Demko, Vitek Vanacek

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Kappo Kahkonen
Honorable Mention(s): Eric Comrie, Jordan Binnington

10/27 NHL Wild Card Targets

Ilya Mikheyev
– There is no better word to describe Ilya Mikheyev than “Wild Card,” given his position in today’s slate. He recently returned from ACL surgery, and he looks like he hasn’t missed a beat over his first two appearances. He has points in each of his two games and has recorded four shots in each game as well. He will also be seeing top-line minutes tonight against one of the worst defensive teams in the league, the St. Louis Blues. Mikheyev is a risky play, but he has a lot of upside and can provide some salary relief on a slate that doesn’t have many strong value plays. (Vancouver also has one of the highest implied totals of the slate at 3.8.)

Honorable Mention(s): Paul Cotter, Trevor Moore, Kaedan Korczak, Andrei Svechnikov

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Jack Eichel

Winger Martin Necas

Defenseman – Shea Theodore

Goalie Adin Hill

We have another Saturday slate, so that means it’s a massive one! Tonight is a whopping 13 game slate that starts at 7pm Eastern. There are a lot of spots to look tonight, so we will try to filter them down. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Alexandar Georgiev – Colorado Avalanch: The Avs host the Hurricanes tonight and this is a great upside spot. The Canes love shooting the puck, and Georgiev has some good looking numbers early on.

Sergei Bobrovsky – Florida Panthers: The Panthers host the Canucks tonight and Bob should be in a good spot.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Arvid Soderblom – Chicago Blackhawks: Chicago hosts the Golden Knights tonight and this is a very interesting spot for upside. Soderblom should see a ton of shots, and his numbers look solid early in the season. If he can keep that up, this is a great GPP play.

Others to Consider: Juuse Saros (NSH), Jeremy Swayman (BOS), Jake Allen (MON)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Toronto Maple Leafs 1 – Auston Matthews/Mitch Marner/Tyler Bertuzzi: The Leafs head to Tampa tonight to take on the Lightning, who look nothing like what they have in recent years. With Vasilevskiy on the shelf, the Lightning have been giving up a ton of goals. With tonight being what should be a high event game, this is a great spot for the top Leafs line.

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Nathan MacKinnon/Mikko Rantanen/Jonathan Drouin/Cale Makar: This is a very solid matchup tonight for the top Avs line. They get a fairly decent defensive team in the Hurricanes, but this is more about the goalie matchup. Kochetkov is penciled in to start, and that is a great matchup for one of the best forward lines out there.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Montreal Canadiens 1 – Nick Suzuki/Cole Caufield/Rafael Harvey-Pinard: You can sub out Harvey-Pinard here for either Monahan or Anderson to make a power play look. The Canadiens take on the Caps tonight, who have been terrible to start the season.

Winnipeg Jets 2 – Vladislav Namestnikov/Cole Perfetti/Nikolaj Ehlers: The Jets get a date with the Oilers tonight, who have been giving up tons of chances and goals. This is a very solid matchup that will be very under the radar.

Nashville Predators 3 – Tommy Novak/Luke Evangelista/Kiefer Sherwood: The Preds host the Sharks tonight, who are not a very good team. This line should see the depth who is poor defensively, so they should definitely get their chances.

Welcome back to WinDaily’s NHL Between the Benches article. We’ve had an excellent start to the season, and it’s time to keep the ball rolling tonight! Tonight’s 10/20 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET, and we have two games taking place. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

10/20 NHL Stack Report

1. New Jersey Devils 1 (Meier-Hughes-Toffoli)

— The Devils’ have made a small switch to their top line, and I think it looks even better than last week. With Meier replacing Bratt on the top line, the overall price of the line goes up, but so does the lines’ firepower, and on a two-gamer like this where there’s lots of value in play, I don’t mind paying up for the Devils’ top line in this spot. Despite coming into Long Island against the Islanders’ tough defensive core, including goalie Ilya Sorokin, the Devils are coming in as the favorites with one of the highest implied totals of the slate at 3.2.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Dougie Hamilton (Honorable Mention(s): Luke Hughes)

2. New York Islanders 2 (Palmieri-Nelson-Engvall)

— New York’s second line has really been pulling its weight as of late, scoring three of New York’s four goals this season, with every player on the line recording a point thus far. All three players see power-play time, with Palmieri and Nelson on the top unit, while Engvall appears on the Isles second power-play unit. There isn’t a large sample size for the Islanders, but what we have seen from the second line thus far has been impressive, and on a small slate such as this one, their strong start to the season makes them a clear option for Daily Fantasy.

Last season, Nelson led the Isles in goalscoring and assists, with Palmieri not far behind. If the Isles put up their implied goal total (3.0) tonight, Line 2 will certainly be involved.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Noah Dobson (Honorable Mention(s): Ryan Pulock)

Honorable Mention(s): Calgary Flames 2 (Ruzicka-Kadri-Dube)

10/20 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Vitek Vanacek
  2. Jacob Markstrom
    Honorable Mention(s): Ilya Sorokin

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Elvis Merzlikins
Honorable Mention(s): N/A

10/20 NHL Wild Card Targets

Adam Ruzicka
– Ruzicka has had an excellent start to his 2023-24 campaign, with four points over his four games this season. He’s playing alongside a solid veteran centre in Nazem Kadri and sees time on the Flames’ top power-play unit. Based on his impressive performances as of late, I can see him taking on a larger role in the squad and seeing more ice time as a result. The Flames have the biggest implied total of the slate at 3.6, which makes a lot of sense considering they are going up against the Blue Jackets, whose starter, Elvis Merzlikins, held a 4.23 goals-against average last season.

Honorable Mention(s): Luke Hughes, Simon Holmstrom, Yegor Sharangovich, Matt Coronato

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Jack Hughes

Winger Kyle Palmieri

Defenseman – Rasmus Andersson

Goalie Jacob Markstrom (value)

Tonight, we have a nice 8 game slate with some big hitters on it and some sneaky plays. This one feels like a good place to get some leverage and play the not-so-obvious plays. Let’s dive into the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: The Jets host the Kings tonight, and Helly is a better bet on home ice than he is on the road. He is one of the more solid goalies, and he has a nice looking matchup tonight.

Frederik Andersen – Carolina Hurricanes: Freddie and the Canes have a pretty nice matchup tonight against the Sharks in San Jose. This is a bit of a safer play, as SJ is just not that great offensively.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Juuse Saros – Nashville Predators: The Preds host the Oilers tonight, and Edmonton has a tendency to be better on home ice than on the road. This is a great upside spot for Saros, and as long as they shut down the McDavid/Draisaitl duo, he could be in line for a big game.

Others to Consider: Ilya Sorokin (NYI), Jake Oettinger (DAL), Alexandar Georgiev (COL)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Buffalo Sabres 1 – Tage Thompson/Alex Tuch/Jeff Skinner/Rasmus Dahlin: The Sabres host the Lightning tonight, and this is about the Sabres’ opportunity to take advantage of a banged up team. Johansson for the Lightning began this season on a rough note, and there is no reason that shouldn’t continue tonight. This should be a decent leverage spot.

Carolina Hurricanes Power Play – Sebastian Aho/Seth Jarvis/Michael Bunting/Brent Burns/Tony DeAngelo: This unit has a great matchup tonight against a pretty poor Sharks team. They should be able to light the lamp a few times. If going the full unit, choose between DeAngelo and Burns, rather than playing them together.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Brayden Point/Nikita Kucherov/Brandon Hagel/Victor Hedman: The Buffalo/Tampa game should feature a ton of scoring, and this is the only productive line so far for Tampa. They should see their chances tonight, and will likely be able to capitalize on a few of them.

Winnipeg Jets 1 – Mark Scheifele/Kyle Connor/Gabriel Vilardi/Josh Morrissey: The Jets host the Kings tonight in what should be a decent matchup for them. This is more about the goalie matchup than it is the even strength matchup, so make sure Talbot gets the start for the Kings.

Nashville Predators 3 – Tommy Novak/Luke Evangelista/Philip Tomasino: The Preds’ top line will most likely be chasing McDavid and company around tonight, opening up a decent matchup for this line against the depth of the Oilers. They provide good value and could be a great leverage play in deep GPPs.

Minnesota Wild 2 – Marcus Johansson/Joel Eriksson Ek/Matt Boldy: Playing this line completely hinges on if Boldy plays tonight. If he is in, then this line is full go. If not, then you can pivot to the top line. The Wild get the Canadiens tonight in a solid matchup.

Almost a week into the NHL season, and it has been a fun ride already. Between MLB playoffs, the NFL, and now hockey, October is one of the best months for sports fans. The NHL slates so far have been manageable, and tonight is no different, with a nice five game slate. All games start at 7pm Eastern. Let’s dive into the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Joseph Woll – Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs host Chicago tonight, and this is your ‘safe’ goalie pick. Woll is a candidate for cash and single entry lineups. He should pull a win, but the shot volume may not be there for deeper GPP.

Vitek Vanecek – New Jersey Devils: This is a nice looking pick tonight, as the Devils host the Panthers. Florida should fire a bunch of shots toward Vanecek tonight, giving him a good look at some upside. Florida has also been struggling to score, so a win is not out of the question.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Petr Mrazek – Chicago Blackhawks: This is the ultimate leverage play tonight. The Leafs will fire a ton of shots at Mrazek tonight, and the Hawks are on the road, so there is a ton of risk here. However, the shot volume will be there, and Mrazek doesn’t have terrible numbers to start the season. If he shuts down or limits the Leafs, the leverage could be huge in deep GPPs.

Others to Consider: Igor Shesterkin (NYR), Jacob Markstrom (CGY)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Toronto Maple Leafs 1 – Auston Matthews/Mitch Marner/Tyler Bertuzzi/John Klingberg: Auston Matthews is on an absolute tear to start the season, netting a hat trick in both of their first two games. This line is hot, and in a great spot against Chicago tonight. Expect them to be heavily owned, and for good reason.

Detroit Red Wings 1 – Dylan Larkin/Lucas Raymond/Alex Debrincat/Moritz Seider: This is a fantastic looking line tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. They should match up against the top line, who is bleeding chances in the first two games of their season. This is a great GPP pivot off of Toronto, and could be the key to tonight.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

New York Rangers 2 – Filip Chytil/Artemi Panarin/Alexis Lafreniere: The Rangers host the Coyotes tonight in their home opener, and this is a good spot for the second line. They should see a bunch of the depth for Arizona tonight, opening them up lots of chances. You can also consider a power play look here, as Arizona has been pretty rough on the PK over the last few years.

Calgary Flames Power Play – Nazem Kadri/Elias Lindholm/Jonathan Huberdeau/Matt Coronato/Rasmus Andersson: The Flames have a good matchup tonight on the road against a Washington team that has limped out of the gate to start the season. The top line is the even strength play here, so mixing in Kadri will help differentiate and get exposure to the second line.

Florida Panthers 1 – Aleksander Barkov/Carter Verhaeghe/Evan Rodrigues/Oliver Ekman-Larsson: The Panthers’ top line is in a good even strength matchup against the second line for the Devils tonight. They are risky because they have been playing poorly to start the season, but this might be their chance to turn it around. Don’t stack them against Vanecek in the same lineup.

New Jersey Devils 1 – Jack Hughes/Tyler Toffoli/Jesper Bratt/Dougie Hamilton: Don’t trust Florida yet? That’s ok! We can turn to the top Devils line instead. They should see a lot of the Florida depth tonight, which puts them in a plus matchup.
